1 Questi sono i figliuoli d’Israele: Ruben, Simeone, Levi, Giuda, Issacar e Zabulon;2 Dan, Giuseppe, Beniamino, Neftali, Gad e Ascer.

3 Figliuoli di Giuda: Er, Onan e Scela; questi tre gli nacquero dalla figliuola di Shua, la Cananea. Er, primogenito di Giuda, era perverso agli occhi dell’Eterno, e l’Eterno lo fece morire.4 Tamar, nuora di Giuda, gli partorì Perets e Zerach. Totale dei figliuoli di Giuda: cinque.5 Figliuoli di Perets: Hetsron e Hamul.6 Figliuoli di Zerach: Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Calcol e Dara: in tutto, cinque.7 Figliuoli di Carmi: Acan che conturbò Israele quando commise una infedeltà riguardo all’interdetto.8 Figliuoli di Ethan: Azaria.9 Figliuoli che nacquero a Hetsron: Jerahmeel, Ram e Kelubai.10 Ram generò Amminadab; Amminadab generò Nahshon, principe dei figliuoli di Giuda;11 e Nahshon generò Salma; e Salma generò Boaz. Boaz generò Obed.12 Obed generò Isai.

13 Isai generò Eliab, suo primogenito, Abinadab il secondo, Scimea il terzo,14 Nethaneel il quarto, Raddai il quinto,15 Otsem il sesto, Davide il settimo.16 Le loro sorelle erano Tseruia ed Abigail. Figliuoli di Tseruia: Abishai, Joab ed Asael: tre.17 Abigail partorì Amasa, il cui padre fu Jether, l’Ismaelita.

18 Caleb figliuolo di Hetsron, ebbe dei figliuoli da Azuba sua moglie, e da Jerioth. Questi sono i figliuoli che ebbe da Azuba: Jescer, Shobab e Ardon.19 Azuba morì e Caleb sposò Efrath, che gli partorì Hur.20 Hur generò Uri, e Uri generò Betsaleel.

21 Poi Hetsron prese la figliuola di Makir, padre di Galaad; egli avea sessant’anni quando la sposò; ed essa gli partorì Segub.22 Segub generò Jair, che ebbe ventitre città nel paese di Galaad.23 I Gheshuriti e i Siri presero loro le borgate di Jair, Kenath e i villaggi che ne dipendevano, sessanta città. Tutti cotesti erano figliuoli di Makir, padre di Galaad.24 Dopo la morte di Hetsron, avvenuta a Caleb-Efratha, Abiah, moglie di Hetsron, gli partorì Ashhur padre di Tekoa.

25 I figliuoli di Jerahmeel, primogenito di Hetsron, furono: Ram, il primogenito, Buna, Oren ed Otsem, nati da Ahija.26 Jerahmeel ebbe un’altra moglie, di nome Atara, che fu madre di Onam.27 I figliuoli di Ram, primogenito di Jerahmeel, furono: Maats, Jamin ed Eker.28 I figliuoli di Onam furono: Shammai e Jada. Figliuoli di Shammai: Nadab e Abishur.29 La moglie di Abishur si chiamava Abihail, che gli partorì Ahban e Molid.30 Figliuoli di Nadab: Seled e Appaim. Seled morì senza figliuoli.31 Figliuoli di Appaim: Jscei. Figliuoli di Jscei: Sceshan. Figliuoli di Sceshan: Ahlai.32 Figliuoli di Jada, fratello di Shammai: Jether e Jonathan. Jether morì senza figliuoli.33 Figliuoli di Jonathan: Peleth e Zaza. Questi sono i figliuoli di Jerahmeel.

34 Sceshan non ebbe figliuoli, ma sì delle figlie. Sceshan aveva uno schiavo egiziano per nome Jarha.35 E Sceshan diede la sua figliuola per moglie a Jarha, suo schiavo; ed essa gli partorì Attai.36 Attai generò Nathan; Nathan generò Zabad;37 Zabad generò Efial; Efial generò Obed;38 Obed generò Jehu; Jehu generò Azaria;39 Azaria generò Helets; Helets generò Elasa;40 Elasa generò Sismai; Sismai generò Shallum;41 Shallum generò Jekamia e Jekamia generò Elishama.

42 Figliuoli di Caleb, fratello di Jerahmeel: Mesha, suo primogenito che fu padre di Zif, e i figliuoli di Maresha, che fu padre di Hebron.43 Figliuoli di Hebron: Kora, Tappuah, Rekem e Scema.44 Scema generò Raham, padre di Jorkeam, Rekem generò Shammai.45 Il figliuolo di Shammai fu Maon; e Maon fu il padre di Beth-Tsur.46 Efa, concubina di Caleb, partorì Haran, Motsa e Gazez. Haran generò Gazez.47 Figliuoli di Jahdai: Reghem, Jotham, Gheshan, Pelet, Efa e Shaaf.48 Maaca, concubina di Caleb, partorì Sceber e Tirhana.49 Partorì anche Shaaf, padre di Madmanna, Sceva, padre di Macbena e padre di Ghibea. La figliuola di Caleb era Acsa.

50 Questi furono i figliuoli di Caleb: Ben-Hur, primogenito di Efrata, Shobal, padre di Kiriath-Jearim;51 Salma, padre di Bethlehem; Haref, padre di Beth-Gader.52 Shobal, padre di Kiriath-Jearim, ebbe per discendenti: Haroe, e la metà di Menuhoth.53 Le famiglie di Kiriath-Jearim furono: gli Ithrei, i Puthei, gli Shumatei e i Mishraei; dalle quali famiglie derivarono gli Tsorathiti e gli Eshtaoliti.54 Figliuoli di Salma: Bethlehem e i Netofatei, Atroth-Beth-Joab, la metà dei Manahatei, gli Tsoriti.55 E le famiglie di scribi che abitavano a Jabets: i Tirathei, gli Scimeathei, i Sucathei. Questi sono i Kenei discesi da Hammath, padre della casa di Recab.

Israel’s Descendants

1 These were the sons of Israel:t
Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah;
Issachar and Zebulun;

2 Dan, Joseph, and Benjamin;
Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.

Judah’s Descendants

3 The sons of Judah:
Er, Onan, and Shelah. These three were born to him by Bathshua,t a Canaanite woman. Er, Judah’s firstborn, displeased the Lord, so the Lord killed him.t

4 Tamar, Judah’st daughter-in-law, bore to him Perez and Zerah. Judah had five sons in all.

5 The sons of Perez:
Hezron and Hamul.

6 The sons of Zerah:
Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Kalkol, Daras – five in all.

7 The sont of Carmi:
Achan,s who brought the disaster on Israel when he stole what was devoted to God.t

8 The sont of Ethan:
Azariah.

9 The sons born to Hezron:
Jerahmeel, Ram, and Caleb.t

Ram’s Descendants

10 Ram was the father of Amminadab, and Amminadab was the father of Nahshon, the tribal chief of Judah.11 Nahshon was the father of Salma,s and Salma was the father of Boaz.

12 Boaz was the father of Obed, and Obed was the father of Jesse.
13 Jesse was the father of Eliab, his firstborn; Abinadab was born second, Shimea third,14 Nethanel fourth, Raddai fifth,15 Ozem sixth, David seventh.16 Their sisters were Zeruiah and Abigail. Zeruiah’s three sons were Abshai,t Joab, and Asahel.

17 Abigail bore Amasa, whose father was Jether the Ishmaelite.

Caleb’s Descendants

18 Caleb son of Hezron fathered sons by his wife Azubah (also known as Jerioth).t Her sons were Jesher, Shobab, and Ardon.19 When Azubah died, Caleb marriedt Ephrath, who bore him Hur.

20 Hur was the father of Uri, and Uri was the father of Bezalel.
21 Laters Hezron had sexual relations witht the daughter of Makir, the father of Gilead. (He had marriedt her when he was sixty years old.) She bore him Segub.22 Segub was the father of Jair, who owned twenty-three cities in the land of Gilead.

23 (Geshur and Aram captured the towns of Jair,t along with Kenath and its sixty surrounding towns.) All these were descendants of Makir, the father of Gilead.

24 After Hezron’s death, Caleb had sexual relations with Ephrath, his father Hezron’s widow, and she bore to him Ashhur the father of Tekoa.t

Jerahmeel’s Descendants

25 The sons of Jerahmeel, Hezron’s firstborn, were Ram, the firstborn, Bunah, Oren, Ozem, and Ahijah.

26 Jerahmeel had another wife named Atarah; she was Onam’s mother.

27 The sons of Ram, Jerahmeel’s firstborn, were Maaz, Jamin, and Eker.

28 The sons of Onam were Shammai and Jada.
The sons of Shammai:
Nadab and Abishur.

29 Abishur’s wife was Abihail, who bore him Ahban and Molid.

30 The sons of Nadab:
Seled and Appaim. (Seled died without having sons.)

31 The sont of Appaim:
Ishi.
The son of Ishi:
Sheshan.
The son of Sheshan:
Ahlai.

32 The sons of Jada, Shammai’s brother:
Jether and Jonathan. (Jether died without having sons.)

33 The sons of Jonathan:
Peleth and Zaza.
These were the descendants of Jerahmeel.
34 Sheshan had no sons, only daughters. Sheshan had an Egyptian servant named Jarha.

35 Sheshan gave his daughter to his servant Jarha as a wife; she bore him Attai.
36 Attai was the father of Nathan, and Nathan was the father of Zabad.37 Zabad was the father of Ephlal, and Ephlal was the father of Obed.38 Obed was the father of Jehu, and Jehu was the father of Azariah.39 Azariah was the father of Helez, and Helez was the father of Eleasah.40 Eleasah was the father of Sismai, and Sismai was the father of Shallum.

41 Shallum was the father of Jekamiah, and Jekamiah was the father of Elishama.

42 The sons of Caleb, Jerahmeel’s brother:
His firstborn Mesha, the father of Ziph, and his second son Mareshah,s the father of Hebron.

43 The sons of Hebron:
Korah, Tappuah, Rekem, and Shema.
44 Shema was the father of Raham, the father of Jorkeam. Rekem was the father of Shammai.

45 Shammai’s son was Maon, who was the father of Beth-Zur.

46 Caleb’s concubines Ephah bore Haran, Moza, and Gazez. Haran was the father of Gazez.

47 The sons of Jahdai:
Regem, Jotham, Geshan, Pelet, Ephah, and Shaaph.
48 Caleb’s concubine Maacah bore Sheber and Tirhanah.

49 She also bore Shaaph the father of Madmannah and Sheva the father of Machbenah and Gibea. Caleb’s daughter was Achsah.

50 These were the descendants of Caleb.
The sonst of Hur, the firstborn of Ephrath:t
Shobal, the father of Kiriath Jearim,

51 Salma, the father of Bethlehem, Hareph, the father of Beth-Gader.
52 The sons of Shobal, the father of Kiriath Jearim, were Haroeh, half of the Manahathites,t

53 the clans of Kiriath Jearim – the Ithrites, Puthites, Shumathites, and Mishraites. (The Zorathites and Eshtaolites descended from these groups.)t

54 The sons of Salma:
Bethlehem, the Netophathites, Atroth Beth-Joab, half the Manahathites, the Zorites,

55 and the clans of the scribest who lived in Jabez: the Tirathites, Shimeathites, and Sucathites. These are the Kenites who descendedt from Hammath, the father of Beth-Rechab.t
