1 Und der König David sprach zu der ganzen Versammlung: Salomo, mein Sohn, der einzige, den Gott erwählt hat, ist noch jung und zart; das Werk aber ist groß, denn nicht für einen Menschen ist dieser Palast, sondern für Jehova Gott.2 Und mit all meiner Kraft habe ich für das Haus meines Gottes bereitet: das Gold zu dem goldenen, und das Silber zu dem silbernen, und das Erz zu dem ehernen, das Eisen zu dem eisernen, und das Holz zu dem hölzernen Geräte; Onyxsteine und Steine zum Einsetzen, Steine zur Verzierung und buntfarbig, und allerlei kostbare Steine, und weiße Marmorsteine in Menge.3 Und überdies, weil ich Wohlgefallen habe an dem Hause meines Gottes, habe ich, was ich als eigenes Gut an Gold und Silber besitze, für das Haus meines Gottes gegeben, zu alledem hinzu, was ich für das Haus des Heiligtums bereitet habe:4 dreitausend Talente Gold von Gold aus Ophir, und siebentausend Talente geläutertes Silber, zum Überziehen der Wände der Häuser;5 Gold zu dem goldenen und Silber zu dem silbernen Geräte, und zu allem Werke von Künstlerhand. Wer ist nun bereitwillig, heute seine Hand für Jehova zu füllen?6 Und die Obersten der Väter und die Obersten der Stämme Israels, und die Obersten über tausend und über hundert, und die Obersten über die Geschäfte des Königs zeigten sich bereitwillig;7 und sie gaben für die Arbeit des Hauses Gottes fünftausend Talente Gold und zehntausend Dariken, und zehntausend Talente Silber, und achtzehntausend Talente Erz, und hunderttausend Talente Eisen.8 Und bei welchem sich Edelsteine vorfanden, die gaben sie zum Schatze des Hauses Jehovas in die Hand Jechiels, des Gersoniters.9 Und das Volk freute sich über ihre Bereitwilligkeit, denn mit ungeteiltem Herzen zeigten sie sich bereitwillig für Jehova; und auch der König David freute sich mit großer Freude.10 Und David pries Jehova vor den Augen der ganzen Versammlung, und David sprach: Gepriesen seiest du, Jehova, Gott unseres Vaters Israel, von Ewigkeit zu Ewigkeit!11 Dein, Jehova, ist die Größe und die Stärke und der Ruhm und der Glanz und die Pracht; denn alles im Himmel und auf Erden ist dein. Dein, Jehova, ist das Königreich, und du bist über alles erhaben als Haupt;12 und Reichtum und Ehre kommen von dir, und du bist Herrscher über alles; und in deiner Hand sind Macht und Stärke, und in deiner Hand ist es, alles groß und stark zu machen.13 Und nun, unser Gott, wir preisen dich, und wir rühmen deinen herrlichen Namen.14 Denn wer bin ich, und was ist mein Volk, daß wir vermöchten, auf solche Weise freigebig zu sein? Denn von dir kommt alles, und aus deiner Hand haben wir dir gegeben.15 Denn wir sind Fremdlinge vor dir und Beisassen, wie alle unsere Väter; wie ein Schatten sind unsere Tage auf Erden, und keine Hoffnung ist da, hienieden zu bleiben.16 Jehova, unser Gott, alle diese Menge, die wir bereitet haben, um dir ein Haus zu bauen für deinen heiligen Namen, von deiner Hand ist sie, und das alles ist dein.17 Und ich weiß, mein Gott, daß du das Herz prüfst und Wohlgefallen hast an Aufrichtigkeit: Ich nun, in Aufrichtigkeit meines Herzens habe ich alles dieses bereitwillig gegeben; und ich habe jetzt mit Freuden gesehen, daß dein Volk, welches sich hier befindet, dir bereitwillig gegeben hat.18 Jehova, Gott unserer Väter Abraham, Isaak und Israel, bewahre dieses ewiglich als Gebilde der Gedanken des Herzens deines Volkes, und richte ihr Herz zu dir!19 und meinem Sohne Salomo gib ein ungeteiltes Herz, deine Gebote, deine Zeugnisse und deine Satzungen zu beobachten, und alles zu tun und den Palast zu bauen, den ich vorbereitet habe.20 Und David sprach zu der ganzen Versammlung: Preiset doch Jehova, euren Gott! Und die ganze Versammlung pries Jehova, den Gott ihrer Väter; und sie neigten sich und beugten sich nieder vor Jehova und vor dem König.21 Und am nächstfolgenden Tage opferten sie Schlachtopfer dem Jehova, und opferten Brandopfer dem Jehova: tausend Farren, tausend Widder, tausend Schafe, und ihre Trankopfer, und Schlachtopfer in Menge für ganz Israel.22 Und sie aßen und tranken vor Jehova an selbigem Tage mit großer Freude; und sie machten Salomo, den Sohn Davids, zum zweiten Male zum König und salbten ihn Jehova zum Fürsten, und salbten Zadok zum Priester.23 Und so setzte sich Salomo auf den Thron Jehovas als König an seines Vaters David Statt, und er hatte Gedeihen; und ganz Israel gehorchte ihm.24 Und alle Fürsten und die Helden, und auch alle Söhne des Königs David unterwarfen dich dem König Salomo.25 Und Jehova machte Salomo überaus groß vor den Augen von ganz Israel; und er gab ihm eine königliche Pracht, wie sie vor ihm auf keinem König über Israel gewesen war.26 So regierte David, der Sohn Isais, über ganz Israel.27 Und die Tage, die er über ganz Israel regierte, waren vierzig Jahre; zu Hebron regierte er sieben Jahre, und zu Jerusalem regierte er dreiunddreißig Jahre.28 Und er starb in gutem Alter, satt an Tagen, Reichtum und Ehre. Und Salomo, sein Sohn, ward König an seiner Statt.29 Und die Geschichte des Königs David, die erste und die letzte, siehe, sie ist geschrieben in der Geschichte Samuels, des Sehers, und in der Geschichte Nathans, des Propheten, und in der Geschichte Gads, des Schauers;30 nebst seiner ganzen Regierung und seiner Macht, und den Zeiten, die über ihn und über Israel und über alle Königreiche der Länder ergangen sind.

The People Contribute to the Project

1 King David said to the entire assembly: “My son Solomon, the one whom God has chosen, is just an inexperienced young man,t and the task is great, for this palace is not for man, but for the Lord God.2 So I have made every effortt to provide what is needed for the temple of my God, including the gold, silver, bronze, iron, wood,t as well as a large amount of onyx, settings of antimony and other stones, all kinds of precious stones, and alabaster.3 Now, to show my commitment to the temple of my God, I donate my personal treasure of gold and silver to the temple of my God, in addition to all that I have already supplied for this holy temple.4 This includes 3,000 talentst of gold from Ophir and 7,000 talents of refined silver for overlaying the walls of the buildings,

5 for gold and silver items, and for all the work of the craftsmen. Who else wants to contribute to the Lord today?”
6 The leaders of the families, the leaders of the Israelite tribes, the commanders of units of a thousand and a hundred, and the supervisors of the king’s work contributed willingly.7 They donated for the service of God’s temple 5,000 talentst and ten thousand daricsts of gold, 10,000 talents of silver, 18,000 talents of bronze, and 100,000 talents of iron.8 All who possessed precioust stones donated them to the treasury of the Lord’s temple, which was under the supervision of Jehiel the Gershonite.

9 The people were delighted with their donations, for they contributed to the Lord with a willing attitude;t King David was also very happy.t

David Praises the Lord

10 David praised the Lord before the entire assembly:t
“O Lord God of our father Israel, you deserve praise forevermore!11 O Lord, you are great, mighty, majestic, magnificent, glorious, and sovereignt over all the sky and earth! You have dominion and exalt yourself as the rulert of all.12 You are the source of wealth and honor;t you rule over all. You possess strength and might to magnify and give strength to all.t

13 Now, our God, we give thanks to you and praise your majestic name!
14 “But who am I and who are my people, that we should be in a position to contribute this much?t Indeed, everything comes from you, and we have simply given back to you what is yours.t15 For we are resident foreigners and nomads in your presence, like all our ancestors;t our days are like a shadow on the earth, without security.t16 O Lord our God, all this wealth, which we have collected to build a temple for you to honor your holy name, comes from you; it all belongs to you.17 I know, my God, that you examine thoughtst and are pleased with integrity. With pure motivest I contribute all this; and now I look with joy as your people who have gathered here contribute to you.18 O Lord God of our ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, maintain the motives of your people and keep them devoted to you.t

19 Make my son Solomon willing to obey your commands, rules, and regulations, and to complete building the palace for which I have made preparations.”t

20 David told the entire assembly: “Praise the Lord your God!” So the entire assembly praised the Lord God of their ancestors; they bowed down and stretched out flat on the ground before the Lord and the king.

David Designates Solomon King

21 The next day they made sacrifices and offered burnt sacrifices to the Lord (1,000 bulls, 1,000 rams, 1,000 lambs), along with their accompanying drink offerings and many other sacrifices for all Israel.

22 They held a feastt before the Lord that day and celebrated.t
Then they designated Solomon, David’s son, as king a second time;s before the Lord they anointed him as ruler and Zadok as priest.23 Solomon sat on the Lord’s throne as king in place of his father David; he was successful and all Israel was loyal to him.t24 All the officers and warriors, as well as all of King David’s sons, pledged their allegiance to King Solomon.t

25 The Lord greatly magnified Solomon before all Israel and bestowed on him greater majesty than any king of Israel before him.t

David’s Reign Comes to an End

26 David son of Jesse reigned over all Israel.27 He reigned over Israel forty years; he reigned in Hebron seven years and in Jerusalems thirty-three years.28 He died at a good old age, having enjoyed long life, wealth, and honor.t His son Solomon succeeded him.29 King David’s accomplishments, from start to finish, are recorded in the Annals of Samuel the prophet, the Annals of Nathan the prophet, and the Annals of Gad the prophet.t

30 Recorded there are all the facts about his reign and accomplishments, and an account of the events that involved him, Israel, and all the neighboring kingdoms.t
