Gaver til tempelbygget

1 Deretter sa kong David til alle dem som var kommet sammen: Salomo, min sønn, den eneste som Gud har utvalgt, er ung og veik, og arbeidet er stort. For den herlige bygningen skal ikke være for et menneske, men for Herren Gud. s2 Av all min kraft har jeg samlet sammen for min Guds hus gull til det som skal være av gull, og sølv til det som skal være av sølv, og kobber til det som skal være av kobber, og jern til det som skal være av jern, og tre til det som skal være av tre. Dessuten onyks-steiner og andre edelsteiner, steiner til innfatning, sorte glanssteiner og brokete steiner - alle slags dyre steiner og en mengde marmor. s3 Og fordi jeg har min Guds hus kjært, vil jeg også gi det jeg eier av gull og sølv, til min Guds hus - i tillegg til alt det jeg har samlet sammen til det hellige huset, 4 tre tusen talenter gull, gull fra Ofir, og sju tusen talenter renset sølv til å kle veggene i huset med, 5 så det kan være nok av gull og sølv til alt det som skal være av gull og sølv, og til alle slags arbeid som kunstnere skal utføre. Hvem er nå villig til i dag å fylle sin hånd med gaver til Herren? s6 Da kom de villig med gaver, både familienes overhoder og Israels stammehøvdinger og høvedsmennene over tusen og over hundre og oppsynsmennene over kongens arbeid: 7 Fem tusen talenter og ti tusen dariker gull og ti tusen talenter sølv og atten tusen talenter kobber og hundre tusen talenter jern ga de til arbeidet på Herrens hus. 8 Og de som eide edelsteiner, ga dem til skatten i Herrens hus, som gersjonitten Jehiel hadde oppsyn med. s

David priser Herren

9 Og folket gledet seg over at de ga så villig, for med udelt hjerte ofret de villig sine gaver til Herren. Også kong David gledet seg meget. 10 Og David priste Herren mens hele forsamlingen var vitne til det, og han sa: Lovet være du, Herre, vår Far Israels Gud, fra evighet og til evighet! 11 Herre, din er storheten og makten og æren og herligheten og høyheten, ja, alt i himmelen og på jorden! Herre, ditt er riket, og du er opphøyet over alt og har alt i din makt. s12 Rikdom og ære kommer fra deg. Du råder over alle ting, og i din hånd er styrke og makt til å gi storhet og kraft til alle. s13 Så priser vi deg nå, vår Gud, og lover ditt herlige navn. 14 For hvem er vel jeg, og hva er mitt folk, at vi skulle være i stand til å gi en frivillig gave som denne? Fra deg kommer det alt sammen, og av det som din hånd har gitt oss, har vi gitt deg. s15 For vi er fremmede for ditt åsyn og gjester, som alle våre fedre. Som en skygge er våre dager på jorden og uten håp. ss16 Herre vår Gud! Alle disse rikdommer som vi har samlet sammen for å bygge et hus for ditt hellige navn, de kommer fra din hånd, og ditt er det alt sammen. 17 Jeg vet, min Gud, at du ransaker hjerter og har behag i oppriktighet. Av et oppriktig hjerte har jeg villig gitt deg alt dette. Og med glede har jeg nå sett hvordan ditt folk som står her, villig har gitt deg sine gaver. s18 Herre, du Abrahams, Isaks og Israels, våre fedres Gud! La dette alltid være ditt folks hjertelag og tanker, og vend deres hjerte til deg! 19 Og gi min sønn Salomo et udelt hjerte til å holde dine bud, dine vitnesbyrd og dine forskrifter og fullføre alt sammen og bygge den herlige bygningen som jeg har tilrettelagt.

Salomo blir konge

20 Deretter sa David til hele forsamlingen: Lov Herren deres Gud! Og hele forsamlingen lovet Herren, sine fedres Gud, og bøyde seg og kastet seg ned for Herren og for kongen. s21 Så bar de slaktoffer fram for Herren. Og dagen etter ofret de brennoffer til Herren: tusen okser, tusen værer, tusen lam, med de drikkoffer som hører til, og en mengde slaktoffer for hele Israel. 22 Den dagen åt og drakk de for Herrens åsyn med stor glede. Og de gjorde Davids sønn Salomo til konge for andre gang*, og salvet ham til Herrens fyrste, og Sadok til prest. ss23 Salomo satt på Herrens trone som konge etter sin far David. Han hadde lykken med seg, og hele Israel viste ham lydighet. s24 Og alle høvdingene og heltene og likeså alle kong Davids sønner hyllet kong Salomo. 25 Herren lot Salomo bli overmåte stor for hele Israels øyne og ga ham en kongelig herlighet som ingen konge i Israel før ham hadde hatt. s

David dør

26 David, Isais sønn, hadde vært konge over hele Israel. 27 Den tid han var konge over Israel, var førti år. I Hebron regjerte han i sju år, og i Jerusalem regjerte han i trettitre år. s28 Han døde i høy alder, mett av dager, rikdom og ære. Og hans sønn Salomo ble konge etter ham. 29 Det som er å fortelle om kong David, både i hans første og i hans senere dager, det er oppskrevet i seeren Samuels krønike og i profeten Natans krønike og i seeren Gads krønike. s30 Der er også fortalt om hele hans regjering og hans store gjerninger og om de tider som kom over ham og Israel og over alle andre land og riker.

The People Contribute to the Project

1 King David said to the entire assembly: “My son Solomon, the one whom God has chosen, is just an inexperienced young man,t and the task is great, for this palace is not for man, but for the Lord God.2 So I have made every effortt to provide what is needed for the temple of my God, including the gold, silver, bronze, iron, wood,t as well as a large amount of onyx, settings of antimony and other stones, all kinds of precious stones, and alabaster.3 Now, to show my commitment to the temple of my God, I donate my personal treasure of gold and silver to the temple of my God, in addition to all that I have already supplied for this holy temple.4 This includes 3,000 talentst of gold from Ophir and 7,000 talents of refined silver for overlaying the walls of the buildings,

5 for gold and silver items, and for all the work of the craftsmen. Who else wants to contribute to the Lord today?”
6 The leaders of the families, the leaders of the Israelite tribes, the commanders of units of a thousand and a hundred, and the supervisors of the king’s work contributed willingly.7 They donated for the service of God’s temple 5,000 talentst and ten thousand daricsts of gold, 10,000 talents of silver, 18,000 talents of bronze, and 100,000 talents of iron.8 All who possessed precioust stones donated them to the treasury of the Lord’s temple, which was under the supervision of Jehiel the Gershonite.

9 The people were delighted with their donations, for they contributed to the Lord with a willing attitude;t King David was also very happy.t

David Praises the Lord

10 David praised the Lord before the entire assembly:t
“O Lord God of our father Israel, you deserve praise forevermore!11 O Lord, you are great, mighty, majestic, magnificent, glorious, and sovereignt over all the sky and earth! You have dominion and exalt yourself as the rulert of all.12 You are the source of wealth and honor;t you rule over all. You possess strength and might to magnify and give strength to all.t

13 Now, our God, we give thanks to you and praise your majestic name!
14 “But who am I and who are my people, that we should be in a position to contribute this much?t Indeed, everything comes from you, and we have simply given back to you what is yours.t15 For we are resident foreigners and nomads in your presence, like all our ancestors;t our days are like a shadow on the earth, without security.t16 O Lord our God, all this wealth, which we have collected to build a temple for you to honor your holy name, comes from you; it all belongs to you.17 I know, my God, that you examine thoughtst and are pleased with integrity. With pure motivest I contribute all this; and now I look with joy as your people who have gathered here contribute to you.18 O Lord God of our ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, maintain the motives of your people and keep them devoted to you.t

19 Make my son Solomon willing to obey your commands, rules, and regulations, and to complete building the palace for which I have made preparations.”t

20 David told the entire assembly: “Praise the Lord your God!” So the entire assembly praised the Lord God of their ancestors; they bowed down and stretched out flat on the ground before the Lord and the king.

David Designates Solomon King

21 The next day they made sacrifices and offered burnt sacrifices to the Lord (1,000 bulls, 1,000 rams, 1,000 lambs), along with their accompanying drink offerings and many other sacrifices for all Israel.

22 They held a feastt before the Lord that day and celebrated.t
Then they designated Solomon, David’s son, as king a second time;s before the Lord they anointed him as ruler and Zadok as priest.23 Solomon sat on the Lord’s throne as king in place of his father David; he was successful and all Israel was loyal to him.t24 All the officers and warriors, as well as all of King David’s sons, pledged their allegiance to King Solomon.t

25 The Lord greatly magnified Solomon before all Israel and bestowed on him greater majesty than any king of Israel before him.t

David’s Reign Comes to an End

26 David son of Jesse reigned over all Israel.27 He reigned over Israel forty years; he reigned in Hebron seven years and in Jerusalems thirty-three years.28 He died at a good old age, having enjoyed long life, wealth, and honor.t His son Solomon succeeded him.29 King David’s accomplishments, from start to finish, are recorded in the Annals of Samuel the prophet, the Annals of Nathan the prophet, and the Annals of Gad the prophet.t

30 Recorded there are all the facts about his reign and accomplishments, and an account of the events that involved him, Israel, and all the neighboring kingdoms.t
