Ofrendas para el templo

1 El rey David le dijo a toda la asamblea: «Dios ha escogido a mi hijo Salomón, pero para una obra de esta magnitud todavía le falta experiencia. El palacio no es para un *hombre sino para Dios el Señor. 2 Con mucho esfuerzo he hecho los preparativos para el templo de Dios. He conseguido oro para los objetos de oro, plata para los de plata, bronce para los de bronce, hierro para los de hierro, madera para los de madera, y piedras de ónice, piedras de engaste, piedras talladas de diversos colores, piedras preciosas de toda clase, y mármol en abundancia. 3 Además, aparte de lo que ya he conseguido, por amor al templo de mi Dios entrego para su templo todo el oro y la plata que poseo: 4 cien mil kilos de oro de Ofir y doscientos treinta mil kilos de platas finísima, para recubrir las paredes de los edificios, 5 para todos los objetos de oro y de plata, y para toda clase de trabajo que hagan los orfebres. ¿Quién de ustedes quiere hoy dar una ofrenda al Señor?»
6 Entonces los jefes de familia, los jefes de las tribus de Israel, los jefes de mil y de cien soldados, y los encargados de las obras del rey hicieron sus ofrendas voluntarias. 7 Donaron para las obras del templo de Dios ciento sesenta y cinco mil kilos y diez mil monedas de oro, trescientos treinta mil kilos de plata, y alrededor de seiscientos mil kilos de bronce y tres millones trescientos mil kilos de hierro.s 8 Los que tenían piedras preciosas las entregaron a Jehiel el guersonita para el tesoro del templo del Señor. 9 El pueblo estaba muy contento de poder dar voluntariamente sus ofrendas al Señor, y también el rey David se sentía muy feliz.

Oración de David

10 Entonces David bendijo así al Señor en presencia de toda la asamblea:
«¡Bendito seas, Señor,
Dios de nuestro padre Israel, desde siempre y para siempre! 11 Tuyos son, Señor,
la grandeza y el poder, la gloria, la *victoria y la majestad. Tuyo es todo cuanto hay en el cielo y en la tierra. Tuyo también es el reino, y tú estás por encima de todo. 12 De ti proceden la riqueza y el honor;
tú lo gobiernas todo. En tus manos están la fuerza y el poder, y eres tú quien engrandece y fortalece a todos. 13 Por eso, Dios nuestro, te damos gracias,
y a tu glorioso *nombre tributamos alabanzas. 14 »Pero, ¿quién soy yo, y quién es mi pueblo, para que podamos darte estas ofrendas voluntarias? En verdad, tú eres el dueño de todo, y lo que te hemos dado, de ti lo hemos recibido. 15 Ante ti, somos extranjeros y peregrinos, como lo fueron nuestros antepasados. Nuestros días sobre la tierra son sólo una sombra sin esperanza. 16 Señor y Dios nuestro, de ti procede todo cuanto hemos conseguido para construir un templo a tu *santo nombre. ¡Todo es tuyo! 17 Yo sé, mi Dios, que tú pruebas los corazones y amas la rectitud. Por eso, con rectitud de *corazón te he ofrecido voluntariamente todas estas cosas, y he visto con júbilo que tu pueblo, aquí presente, te ha traído sus ofrendas. 18 Señor, Dios de nuestros antepasados Abraham, Isaac e Israel, conserva por siempre estos pensamientos en el corazón de tu pueblo, y dirige su corazón hacia ti. 19 Dale también a mi hijo Salomón un corazón íntegro, para que obedezca y ponga en práctica tus mandamientos, preceptos y *leyes. Permítele construir el templo para el cual he hecho esta provisión.»
20 Luego David animó a toda la asamblea: «¡Alaben al Señor su Dios!» Entonces toda la asamblea alabó al Señor, Dios de sus antepasados, y se inclinó ante el Señor y ante el rey.

Coronación de Salomón

21 Al día siguiente, ofrecieron sacrificios y *holocaustos al Señor por todo Israel: mil becerros, mil carneros y mil corderos, con sus respectivas libaciones, y numerosos sacrificios. 22 Ese día comieron y bebieron con gran regocijo en presencia del Señor.
Luego, por segunda vez, proclamaron como rey a Salomón hijo de David, y lo consagraron ante el Señor como rey, y a Sadoc lo ungieron como sacerdote. 23 Y Salomón sucedió en el trono del Señor a su padre David, y tuvo éxito. Todo Israel le obedeció. 24 Todos los jefes, los guerreros y los hijos del rey David rindieron pleitesía al rey Salomón.
25 El Señor engrandeció en extremo a Salomón ante todo Israel, y le otorgó un reinado glorioso, como jamás lo tuvo ninguno de los reyes de Israel.

Muerte de David

26 David hijo de Isaí reinó sobre todo Israel. 27 En total, reinó cuarenta años sobre Israel: siete años reinó en Hebrón, y treinta y tres en Jerusalén. 28 Y murió muy anciano y entrado en años, en medio de grandes honores y riquezas, y su hijo Salomón lo sucedió en el trono.
29 Todos los hechos del rey David, desde el primero hasta el último, y lo que tiene que ver con su reinado y su poder, y lo que les sucedió a él, a Israel y a los pueblos vecinos, están escritos en las crónicas del vidente Samuel, del profeta Natán y del vidente Gad.

The People Contribute to the Project

1 King David said to the entire assembly: “My son Solomon, the one whom God has chosen, is just an inexperienced young man,t and the task is great, for this palace is not for man, but for the Lord God.2 So I have made every effortt to provide what is needed for the temple of my God, including the gold, silver, bronze, iron, wood,t as well as a large amount of onyx, settings of antimony and other stones, all kinds of precious stones, and alabaster.3 Now, to show my commitment to the temple of my God, I donate my personal treasure of gold and silver to the temple of my God, in addition to all that I have already supplied for this holy temple.4 This includes 3,000 talentst of gold from Ophir and 7,000 talents of refined silver for overlaying the walls of the buildings,

5 for gold and silver items, and for all the work of the craftsmen. Who else wants to contribute to the Lord today?”
6 The leaders of the families, the leaders of the Israelite tribes, the commanders of units of a thousand and a hundred, and the supervisors of the king’s work contributed willingly.7 They donated for the service of God’s temple 5,000 talentst and ten thousand daricsts of gold, 10,000 talents of silver, 18,000 talents of bronze, and 100,000 talents of iron.8 All who possessed precioust stones donated them to the treasury of the Lord’s temple, which was under the supervision of Jehiel the Gershonite.

9 The people were delighted with their donations, for they contributed to the Lord with a willing attitude;t King David was also very happy.t

David Praises the Lord

10 David praised the Lord before the entire assembly:t
“O Lord God of our father Israel, you deserve praise forevermore!11 O Lord, you are great, mighty, majestic, magnificent, glorious, and sovereignt over all the sky and earth! You have dominion and exalt yourself as the rulert of all.12 You are the source of wealth and honor;t you rule over all. You possess strength and might to magnify and give strength to all.t

13 Now, our God, we give thanks to you and praise your majestic name!
14 “But who am I and who are my people, that we should be in a position to contribute this much?t Indeed, everything comes from you, and we have simply given back to you what is yours.t15 For we are resident foreigners and nomads in your presence, like all our ancestors;t our days are like a shadow on the earth, without security.t16 O Lord our God, all this wealth, which we have collected to build a temple for you to honor your holy name, comes from you; it all belongs to you.17 I know, my God, that you examine thoughtst and are pleased with integrity. With pure motivest I contribute all this; and now I look with joy as your people who have gathered here contribute to you.18 O Lord God of our ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, maintain the motives of your people and keep them devoted to you.t

19 Make my son Solomon willing to obey your commands, rules, and regulations, and to complete building the palace for which I have made preparations.”t

20 David told the entire assembly: “Praise the Lord your God!” So the entire assembly praised the Lord God of their ancestors; they bowed down and stretched out flat on the ground before the Lord and the king.

David Designates Solomon King

21 The next day they made sacrifices and offered burnt sacrifices to the Lord (1,000 bulls, 1,000 rams, 1,000 lambs), along with their accompanying drink offerings and many other sacrifices for all Israel.

22 They held a feastt before the Lord that day and celebrated.t
Then they designated Solomon, David’s son, as king a second time;s before the Lord they anointed him as ruler and Zadok as priest.23 Solomon sat on the Lord’s throne as king in place of his father David; he was successful and all Israel was loyal to him.t24 All the officers and warriors, as well as all of King David’s sons, pledged their allegiance to King Solomon.t

25 The Lord greatly magnified Solomon before all Israel and bestowed on him greater majesty than any king of Israel before him.t

David’s Reign Comes to an End

26 David son of Jesse reigned over all Israel.27 He reigned over Israel forty years; he reigned in Hebron seven years and in Jerusalems thirty-three years.28 He died at a good old age, having enjoyed long life, wealth, and honor.t His son Solomon succeeded him.29 King David’s accomplishments, from start to finish, are recorded in the Annals of Samuel the prophet, the Annals of Nathan the prophet, and the Annals of Gad the prophet.t

30 Recorded there are all the facts about his reign and accomplishments, and an account of the events that involved him, Israel, and all the neighboring kingdoms.t
