1 Corinzi 1

1 Questa lettera è scritta da Paolo, scelto da Dio per essere apostolo di Gesù Cristo, e dal fratello Sòstene,2 ed è indirizzata ai cristiani di Corinto, invitati da Dio ad essere suo popolo e resi accettabili a lui per mezzo del Signore Gesù Cristo, insieme con tutti quelli che, in qualsiasi luogo, invocano il nome di Gesù Cristo, Signore nostro e loro.3 Dio, nostro Padre, e il Signore Gesù Cristo vi diano grazia e pace.

Dio vi ha benedetto, perché litigate?…

4 Continuamente ringrazio il Signore per tutti i doni meravigliosi che vi ha dato, ora che appartenete a Cristo.5 Egli ha arricchito tutta la vostra vita; vi ha aiutato a parlare di lui e vi ha dato la piena conoscenza della verità.6 Siccome Gesù Cristo, che vi è stato annunciato, è diventato la base solida della vostra vita,7 non vi manca più nessun dono spirituale, mentre state aspettando il ritorno del nostro Signore, Gesù Cristo.8 Sarà lui che vi terrà saldi fino alla fine, perché nessuno vi possa accusare nel giorno in cui tornerà.9 Certamente il Signore farà questo per voi, perché mantiene sempre ciò che promette, ed è stato lui che vi ha invitati a vivere strettamente uniti a Gesù Cristo, suo figlio e nostro Signore.10 Cari fratelli, vi prego nel nome di Gesù Cristo, nostro Signore, di mettervi d’accordo. Basta con le discussioni e i litigi tra voi; siate uniti invece in un unico modo di pensare e di sentire.11 Perché, fratelli miei, alcuni della famiglia di Cloe mi hanno riferito dei vostri litigi, e cioè che12 alcuni di voi dicono: « Io sono un seguace di Paolo », altri invece: « Io sono di Apollo o di Pietro », mentre altri ancora dicono di essere soltanto seguaci di Cristo.13 Facendo così, avete diviso Cristo in tante parti!
Ma, pensate un po’, sono stato forse io, Paolo, a morire per i vostri peccati? O c’è qualcuno fra di voi che è stato battezzato nel mio nome?14 Ringrazio Dio di non aver battezzato nessuno di voi, salvo Crispo e Gaio.15 Così nessuno può pensare o dire che ho cercato di fondare qualcosa di nuovo, una specie di « chiesa di Paolo ».16 È vero, ho battezzato anche la famiglia di Stefana, ma, a parte questi, non mi ricordo d’aver battezzato nessun altro.17 Infatti, Cristo non mi ha mandato a battezzare, ma a predicare il Vangelo; e non lo predico in modo altisonante, con paroloni difficili, perché mi sembrerebbe di sminuire l’immensa potenza del semplice messaggio della morte di Cristo in croce.18 So bene quanto sembri sciocco per quelli che sono sulla via della perdizione sentir predicare che Gesù è morto per salvarli. Ma per noi, che siamo salvati, questo messaggio è la potenza di Dio.19 Perché nelle Scritture Dio dice: « Distruggerò la sapienza dei saggi e annienterò l’intelligenza degl’intelligenti ».20 Dov’è il saggio? Dov’è l’intellettuale? Dov’è l’esperto in dibattiti sugli argomenti di grande attualità? Dio li ha fatti apparire tutti stupidi e ha dimostrato che la loro sapienza non serve a niente.21 Siccome Dio, nella sua saggezza, aveva visto che il mondo non lo avrebbe mai conosciuto, servendosi dell’intelligenza umana, decise di salvare quelli che credono, per mezzo del suo messaggio, che il mondo considera pazzia.22 Il messaggio di Dio sembra una pazzia agli Ebrei, che pretendono dei miracoli come riprova che quanto viene predicato è vero; ed è pazzesco per i non Ebrei, che si fidano soltanto della ragione e di ciò che corrisponde alle loro filosofie.23 Perciò, quando predichiamo che Cristo è morto per salvarli, i Giudei restano offesi e per i non Ebrei sono parole senza senso.24 Ma per quelli che sono stati chiamati alla salvezza, siano essi Ebrei o no, Cristo è la potenza e la sapienza di Dio che li salva. Cristo stesso è al centro del grande piano di Dio per la loro salvezza.25 Questo progetto di Dio, considerato una pazzia, è di gran lunga più saggio di qualsiasi altro piano architettato dal più intelligente degli uomini. Perché ciò che sembra di essere la stoltezza di Dio è più sapiente della sapienza umana, e ciò che sembra di essere la debolezza di Dio è più forte della forza umana.26 Ricordate la vostra chiamata: fra voi, fratelli, quasi nessuno era importante, ricco o potente,27 ma Dio ha scelto apposta le cose che il mondo considera pazze o da scartare, proprio per confondere quelli che il mondo considera sapienti.28 Il Signore ha scelto un piano che il mondo disprezza e che non tiene in nessun conto, e se n’è servito per ridurre a niente quelli che il mondo considera importanti.29 Così nessuno potrà vantarsi davanti a Dio.30 Ma voi, grazie a Dio, siete uniti a Gesù Cristo che per noi è la sapienza che viene da Dio. È lui che ci rende accettabili a Dio, ci dà la possibilità di vivere per lui e ci libera dal peccato,31 perché com’è detto nelle Scritture: « Se qualcuno vuole vantarsi, si vanti soltanto per ciò che ha fatto il Signore ».

1 Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother,2 unto the church of God which is at Corinth, even them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ in every place, their Lord and ours:3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.4 I thank my God always concerning you, for the grace of God which was given you in Christ Jesus;5 that in everything ye were enriched in him, in all utterance and all knowledge;6 even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you:7 so that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ;8 who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye be unreproveable in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.9 God is faithful, through whom ye were called into the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.10 Now I beseech you, brethren, through the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfected together in the same mind and in the same judgment.11 For it hath been signified unto me concerning you, my brethren, by them that are of the household of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.12 Now this I mean, that each one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos: and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized into the name of Paul?14 I thank God that I baptized none of you, save Crispus and Gaius;15 lest any man should say that ye were baptized into my name.16 And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other.17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not in wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made void.18 For the word of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us who are saved it is the power of God.19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And the discernment of the discerning will I bring to nought.

20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?21 For seeing that in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom knew not God, it was God’s good pleasure through the foolishness of the preaching to save them that believe.22 Seeing that Jews ask for signs, and Greeks seek after wisdom:23 but we preach Christ crucified, unto Jews a stumblingblock, and unto Gentiles foolishness;24 but unto them that are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.26 For behold your calling, brethren, that not many wise after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:27 but God chose the foolish things of the world, that he might put to shame them that are wise; and God chose the weak things of the world, that he might put to shame the things that are strong;28 and the base things of the world, and the things that are despised, did God choose, yea and the things that are not, that he might bring to nought the things that are:29 that no flesh should glory before God.30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who was made unto us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption:31 that, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
