고린도전서 1

인사와 감사

1 하나님의 뜻으로 그리스도 예수의 사도로 부르심을 받은 나 바울과, 형제 소스데네가, 2 고린도에 있는 하나님의 교회에 이 편지를 씁니다. 그리스도 예수 안에서 거룩하여지고 성도로 부르심을 받은 여러분에게 문안드립니다. 또 각처에서 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 이름을 부르는 모든 이들에게도 아울러 문안드립니다. 예수 그리스도는 이 사람들의 주님이시며 우리의 주님이십니다. 3 하나님 우리 아버지와 주 예수 그리스도께서 내려주시는 은혜와 평화가 여러분에게 있기를 빕니다. 4 나는 여러분이 그리스도 예수 안에서 받은 하나님의 은혜를 생각하고, 여러분의 일로 언제나 하나님께 감사를 드립니다. 5 여러분은 그리스도 안에서 모든 면에 풍족하게 되었습니다. 곧 온갖 언변과 온갖 지식이 늘었습니다. 6 그리스도에 관한 증언이 여러분 가운데서 이렇게도 튼튼하게 자리잡았습니다. 7 그리하여 여러분은 어떠한 은사에도 부족한 것이 없으며 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 나타나심을 기다리고 있습니다. 8 우리 주 예수 【그리스도】께서 나타나실 날에 여러분이 흠잡을 데 없는 사람으로 설 수 있도록, 주님께서 여러분을 끝까지 튼튼히 세워주실 것입니다. 9 하나님은 신실하신 분이십니다. 하나님께서는 여러분을 부르셔서 그 아들 우리 주 예수 그리스도와 친교를 가지게 하여 주셨습니다.

고린도 교회의 분열상

10 그런데, t형제자매 여러분, 나는 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 여러분에게 권면합니다. 여러분은 모두 같은 말을 하며, 여러분 가운데 분열이 없도록 하며, 같은 마음과 같은 생각으로 뭉치십시오. 11 t나의 형제자매 여러분, 글로에의 집 사람들이 여러분의 소식을 전해 주어서 나는 여러분 가운데에 분쟁이 있다는 것을 알게 되었습니다. 12 다름이 아니라, 여러분은 저마다 말하기를 “나는 바울 편이다”, “나는 아볼로 편이다”, “나는 t게바 편이다”, “나는 그리스도 편이다” 한다고 합니다. 13 그리스도께서 갈라지셨습니까? 바울이 여러분을 위하여 십자가에 달리기라도 했습니까? 또는, 여러분이 바울의 이름으로 t세례를 받았습니까? 14 내가 여러분 가운데에서 그리스보와 가이오 밖에는, 아무에게도 t세례를 준 일이 없음을 【하나님께】 감사드립니다. 15 그러므로, 아무도 나의 이름으로 t세례를 받았다고 말하지 못할 것입니다. 16 내가 스데바나 가족에게도 t세례를 주었습니다마는, 그 밖에는 다른 누구에게 t세례를 주었는지 나는 모릅니다. 17 그리스도께서는 t세례를 주라고 나를 보내신 것이 아니라, 복음을 전하라고 보내셨습니다. 복음을 전하되, 말의 지혜로 하지 않게 하셨습니다. 그것은 그리스도의 십자가가 헛되이 되지 않게 하시려는 것입니다.

하나님의 능력과 지혜이신 그리스도

18 십자가의 말씀이 멸망할 자들에게는 어리석은 것이지만, 구원을 받는 사람인 우리에게는 하나님의 능력입니다. 19 성경에 기록하기를 t“내가 지혜로운 자들의 지혜를 멸하고, 총명한 자들의 총명을 폐할 것이다” 하였습니다.

20 현자가 어디에 있습니까? 학자가 어디에 있습니까? 이 세상의 변론가가 어디에 있습니까? 하나님께서는 이 세상의 지혜를 어리석게 하신 것이 아닙니까? 21 이 세상은 그 지혜로 하나님을 알지 못하였습니다. 하나님의 지혜가 그렇게 되도록 한 것입니다. 하나님께서는 t어리석게 들리는 설교를 통하여 믿는 사람들을 구원하시기를 기뻐하신 것입니다. 22 유대 사람은 기적을 요구하고, 그리스 사람은 지혜를 찾으나, 23 우리는 십자가에 달리신 그리스도를 전합니다. 그리스도가 십자가에 달리셨다는 것은 유대 사람에게는 거리낌이고, 이방 사람에게는 어리석은 일입니다. 24 그러나 부르심을 받은 사람에게는, 유대 사람에게나 그리스 사람에게나, 이 그리스도는 하나님의 능력이요, 하나님의 지혜입니다. 25 하나님의 어리석음이 사람의 지혜보다 더 지혜롭고, 하나님의 약함이 사람의 강함보다 더 강합니다. 26  t형제자매 여러분, 여러분이 부르심을 받을 때에, 그 처지가 어떠하였는지 생각하여 보십시오. 육신의 기준으로 보아서, 지혜 있는 사람이 많지 않고, 권력 있는 사람이 많지 않고, 가문이 훌륭한 사람이 많지 않았습니다. 27 그런데 하나님께서는, 지혜 있는 자들을 부끄럽게 하시려고 세상의 어리석은 것들을 택하셨으며, 강한 것들을 부끄럽게 하시려고 세상의 약한 것들을 택하셨습니다. 28 하나님께서는 세상에서 비천한 것들과 멸시받는 것들을 택하셨으니 곧 잘났다고 하는 것들을 없애시려고 아무것도 아닌 것들을 택하셨습니다. 29 이리하여 t아무도 하나님 앞에서는 자랑하지 못하게 하시려는 것입니다. 30 그러나 여러분은 하나님의 자녀로서 그리스도 예수 안에 있습니다. 그는 우리에게 하나님으로부터 오는 지혜가 되시며, 의와 거룩함과 t구원이 되셨습니다. 31 그것은, t성경에 기록되어 있는 바 “누구든지 자랑하려거든 주님을 자랑하라” 한 대로 되게 하시려는 것입니다.

1 CORINTHIANS 1

1 From Paul, chosen by God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus, and from Sosthenes, who is also a follower.

2  t To God's church in Corinth. Christ Jesus chose you to be his very own people, and you worship in his name, as we and all others do who call him Lord.

3 My prayer is that God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ will be kind to you and will bless you with peace!
4 I never stop thanking my God for treating you with undeserved grace by giving you Christ Jesus, 5 who helps you speak and understand so well. 6 Now you are certain that everything we told you about our Lord Christ Jesus is true. 7 You are not missing out on any blessings, as you wait for him to return. 8 And until the day Christ does return, he will keep you completely innocent.

9 God can be trusted, and he chose you to be partners with his Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.

Taking Sides

10 My dear friends, as a follower of our Lord Jesus Christ, I beg you to get along with each other. Don't take sides. Always try to agree in what you think. 11 Several people from Chloe's familyt have already reported to me that you keep arguing with each other.

12 t They have said that some of you claim to follow me, while others claim to follow Apollos or Petert or Christ.
13 Has Christ been divided up? Was I nailed to a cross for you? Were you baptized in my name? 14 t I thank Godt that I didn't baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius. 15 Not one of you can say that you were baptized in my name. 16 t I did baptize the familyt of Stephanas, but I don't remember if I baptized anyone else.

17 Christ did not send me to baptize. He sent me to tell the good news without using words that sound wise and would make the cross of Christ lose its power.

Christ Is God's Power //and Wisdom

18 The message about the cross doesn't make any sense to lost people. But for those of us who are being saved, it is God's power at work.

19 t As God says in the Scriptures,
“I will destroy the wisdom
of all who claim
to be wise.
I will confuse those
who think they know
so much.”
20  t What happened to those wise people? What happened to those experts in the Scriptures? What happened to the ones who think they have all the answers? Didn't God show that the wisdom of this world is foolish?

21 t God was wise and decided not to let the people of this world use their wisdom to learn about him.
Instead, God chose to save only those who believe the foolish message we preach. 22 Jews ask for miracles, and Greeks want something that sounds wise. 23 But we preach that Christ was nailed to a cross. Most Jews have problems with this, and most Gentiles think it is foolish. 24 Our message is God's power and wisdom for the Jews and the Greeks that he has chosen.

25 Even when God is foolish, he is wiser than everyone else, and even when God is weak, he is stronger than everyone else.
26 My dear friends, remember what you were when God chose you. The people of this world didn't think that many of you were wise. Only a few of you were in places of power, and not many of you came from important families.

27 But God chose the foolish things of this world to put the wise to shame. He chose the weak things of this world to put the powerful to shame.
28 What the world thinks is worthless, useless, and nothing at all is what God has used to destroy what the world considers important. 29 God did all this to keep anyone from bragging to him. 30 You are God's children. He sent Christ Jesus to save us and to make us wise, acceptable, and holy. 31 t So if you want to brag, do what the Scriptures say and brag about the Lord.
