1 Corintios 1

Salutación

1 Pablo, llamado a ser apóstol de Jesucristo por la voluntad de Dios, y el hermano Sóstenes,2 a la iglesia de Dios que está en Corinto, a los santificados en Cristo Jesús, llamados a ser santos con todos los que en cualquier lugar invocan el nombre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, Señor de ellos y nuestro.

3 Gracia y paz a vosotros, de Dios nuestro Padre y del Señor Jesucristo.

Acción de gracias por dones espirituales

4 Gracias doy a mi Dios siempre por vosotros, por la gracia de Dios que os fue dada en Cristo Jesús,5 pues por medio de él habéis sido enriquecidos en todo, en toda palabra y en todo conocimiento,6 en la medida en que el testimonio acerca de Cristo ha sido confirmado entre vosotros,7 de tal manera que nada os falta en ningún don mientras esperáis la manifestación de nuestro Señor Jesucristo;8 el cual también os mantendrá firmes hasta el fin, para que seáis irreprensibles en el día de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.

9 Fiel es Dios, por el cual fuisteis llamados a la comunión con su Hijo Jesucristo, nuestro Señor.

¿Está dividido Cristo?

10 Os ruego, pues, hermanos, por el nombre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, que habléis todos una misma cosa, y que no haya entre vosotros divisiones, sino que estéis perfectamente unidos en una misma mente y un mismo parecer,11 porque he sido informado acerca de vosotros, hermanos míos, por los de Cloé, que hay entre vosotros contiendas.12 Quiero decir, que cada uno de vosotros dice: «Yo soy de Pablo», «Yo, de Apolos», «Yo, de Cefas» o «Yo, de Cristo».

13 ¿Acaso está dividido Cristo? ¿Fue crucificado Pablo por vosotros? ¿O fuisteis bautizados en el nombre de Pablo?
14 Doy gracias a Dios de que a ninguno de vosotros he bautizado, sino a Crispo y a Gayo,15 para que ninguno diga que fue bautizado en mi nombre.16 También bauticé a la familia de Estéfanas, pero de los demás no recuerdo si he bautizado a algún otro.

17 No me envió Cristo a bautizar, sino a predicar el evangelio; no con sabiduría de palabras, para que no se haga vana la cruz de Cristo.

Cristo, poder y sabiduría de Dios

18 La palabra de la cruz es locura a los que se pierden; pero a los que se salvan, esto es, a nosotros, es poder de Dios,

19 pues está escrito:
«Destruiré la sabiduría de los sabios
y frustraré la inteligencia de los inteligentes.»
20 ¿Dónde está el sabio? ¿Dónde está el escriba? ¿Dónde está el que discute asuntos de este mundo? ¿Acaso no ha enloquecido Dios la sabiduría del mundo?

21 Puesto que el mundo, mediante su sabiduría, no reconoció a Dios a través de las obras que manifiestan su sabiduría, agradó a Dios salvar a los creyentes por la locura de la predicación.
22 Los judíos piden señales y los griegos buscan sabiduría,

23 pero nosotros predicamos a Cristo crucificado, para los judíos ciertamente tropezadero, y para los gentiles locura.
24 En cambio para los llamados, tanto judíos como griegos, Cristo es poder y sabiduría de Dios,

25 porque lo insensato de Dios es más sabio que los hombres, y lo débil de Dios es más fuerte que los hombres.
26 Considerad, pues, hermanos, vuestra vocación y ved que no hay muchos sabios según la carne, ni muchos poderosos, ni muchos nobles;27 sino que lo necio del mundo escogió Dios para avergonzar a los sabios; y lo débil del mundo escogió Dios para avergonzar a lo fuerte;28 y lo vil del mundo y lo menospreciado escogió Dios, y lo que no es, para deshacer lo que es,29 a fin de que nadie se jacte en su presencia.30 Pero por él estáis vosotros en Cristo Jesús, el cual nos ha sido hecho por Dios sabiduría, justificación, santificación y redención,

31 para que, como está escrito: «El que se gloría, gloríese en el Señor.»

1 From Paul, chosen by God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus, and from Sosthenes, who is also a follower.

2  t To God's church in Corinth. Christ Jesus chose you to be his very own people, and you worship in his name, as we and all others do who call him Lord.

3 My prayer is that God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ will be kind to you and will bless you with peace!
4 I never stop thanking my God for treating you with undeserved grace by giving you Christ Jesus, 5 who helps you speak and understand so well. 6 Now you are certain that everything we told you about our Lord Christ Jesus is true. 7 You are not missing out on any blessings, as you wait for him to return. 8 And until the day Christ does return, he will keep you completely innocent.

9 God can be trusted, and he chose you to be partners with his Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.

Taking Sides

12 t They have said that some of you claim to follow me, while others claim to follow Apollos or Petert or Christ.
13 Has Christ been divided up? Was I nailed to a cross for you? Were you baptized in my name? 14 t I thank Godt that I didn't baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius. 15 Not one of you can say that you were baptized in my name. 16 t I did baptize the familyt of Stephanas, but I don't remember if I baptized anyone else.

17 Christ did not send me to baptize. He sent me to tell the good news without using words that sound wise and would make the cross of Christ lose its power.

Christ Is God's Power //and Wisdom

19 t As God says in the Scriptures,
“I will destroy the wisdom
of all who claim
to be wise.
I will confuse those
who think they know
so much.”
20  t What happened to those wise people? What happened to those experts in the Scriptures? What happened to the ones who think they have all the answers? Didn't God show that the wisdom of this world is foolish?

21 t God was wise and decided not to let the people of this world use their wisdom to learn about him.
Instead, God chose to save only those who believe the foolish message we preach. 22 Jews ask for miracles, and Greeks want something that sounds wise. 23 But we preach that Christ was nailed to a cross. Most Jews have problems with this, and most Gentiles think it is foolish. 24 Our message is God's power and wisdom for the Jews and the Greeks that he has chosen.

25 Even when God is foolish, he is wiser than everyone else, and even when God is weak, he is stronger than everyone else.
26 My dear friends, remember what you were when God chose you. The people of this world didn't think that many of you were wise. Only a few of you were in places of power, and not many of you came from important families.

27 But God chose the foolish things of this world to put the wise to shame. He chose the weak things of this world to put the powerful to shame.
28 What the world thinks is worthless, useless, and nothing at all is what God has used to destroy what the world considers important. 29 God did all this to keep anyone from bragging to him. 30 You are God's children. He sent Christ Jesus to save us and to make us wise, acceptable, and holy. 31 t So if you want to brag, do what the Scriptures say and brag about the Lord.
