Israel als warnendes Beispiel

1 tLiebe Brüder und Schwestern, erinnert euch daran, was unsere Vorfahren während ihrer Wüstenwanderung erlebten. Ihnen zog eine Wolke voraus, und so leitete Gott sie sicher durch das Rote Meer.2 Alle wurden im Meer und unter der Wolke auf Mose getauft.3 tGott gab ihnen allen dasselbe Brot vom Himmel zu essen4 tund dasselbe Wasser aus einem Felsen zu trinken. Dieser Felsen hatte eine besondere Bedeutung: Er kam mit ihnen, und durch ihn war Christus selbst bei ihnen.t5 tAber es gefiel Gott nicht, wie die meisten von ihnen lebten. Deshalb kamen sie in der Wüste um.6 Das soll uns eine Warnung sein, damit wir uns nicht wie sie vom Bösen beherrschen lassen.

7 tWerdet nicht zu Menschen, die Götzen anbeten, so wie manche von ihnen. Die Heilige Schrift berichtet: »Sie ließen sich nieder, um zu essen und zu trinken, und dann feierten sie ein rauschendes, ausschweifendes Fest.«t8 Lasst euch auch nicht wie sie zu sexueller Zügellosigkeit verleiten, sondern denkt daran, dass an einem einzigen Tag dreiundzwanzigtausend Menschen dafür mit dem Tod bestraft wurden.9 tStellt die Güte und Geduld des Herrn nicht auf die Probe. Sie taten es damals, wurden von Schlangen gebissen und starben.10 tLehnt euch nicht gegen Gott auf wie einige von ihnen. Gott vernichtete sie durch seinen Todesengel.

11 Alle diese Ereignisse sind uns als Beispiel gegeben. Sie wurden niedergeschrieben, damit wir gewarnt sind; denn das Ende der Welt ist nahe.12 tDeshalb seid vorsichtig! Gerade wer meint, er stehe besonders sicher, muss aufpassen, dass er nicht fällt.13 tWas eurem Glauben bisher an Prüfungen zugemutet wurde, überstieg nicht eure Kraft. Gott steht zu euch. Er lässt nicht zu, dass die Versuchung größer ist, als ihr es ertragen könnt. Wenn euer Glaube auf die Probe gestellt wird, schafft Gott auch die Möglichkeit, sie zu bestehen.

Abendmahl oder Götzendienst

14 tDarum, liebe Freunde, hütet euch vor jedem Götzendienst!15 Als Christen wisst ihr doch, worum es geht. Überlegt einmal selbst:16 tHaben wir durch den Abendmahlskelch, über dem wir das Dankgebet sprechen, nicht Anteil am Blut, das Christus für uns vergossen hat? Haben wir durch das Brot, das wir brechen und gemeinsam essen, nicht Anteil an seinem Leib?

17 tEs gibt beim Abendmahl nur ein Brot. Und obwohl wir so viele sind, sind wir doch ein Leib, weil wir alle von dem einen Brot essen.18 tSeht euch doch einmal an, wie das Volk Israel Gott verehrt! Alle haben Gemeinschaft mit Gott, weil sie gemeinsam vom Fleisch der Opfertiere essen.t

19 tWas will ich damit sagen? Dass es doch Götter gibt oder dass die Opfer, die ihnen gebracht werden, irgendeine Bedeutung haben?20 Natürlich nicht! Was die Götzenanbeter auf dem Altar darbringen, opfern sie den Dämonen, nicht etwa Gott.t Ich will aber nicht, dass ihr Gemeinschaft mit dämonischen Mächten habt.

21 tIhr könnt unmöglich aus dem Kelch des Herrn und zugleich aus dem Kelch der Dämonen trinken. Ihr könnt nicht Gäste am Tisch des Herrn sein und auch noch am Tisch der Dämonen essen.22 Oder wollen wir etwa den Herrn herausfordern? Bilden wir uns wirklich ein, stärker zu sein als er?

Rücksicht auf das Gewissen der andern

23 tIhr lebt nach dem Grundsatz:t »Alles ist erlaubt!« Ich antworte darauf: Aber nicht alles, was erlaubt ist, ist auch gut. Alles ist erlaubt, aber nicht alles baut die Gemeinde auf.24 tDenkt bei dem, was ihr tut, nicht nur an euch. Denkt vor allem an die anderen und daran, was für sie gut ist.

25 tKauft unbesorgt das Fleisch, das auf dem Markt angeboten wird, und macht euch kein Gewissen daraus, ob es von Opfertieren stammt.26 Denn »die Erde und alles, was auf ihr lebt, gehört dem Herrn.«t27 Lädt euch jemand, der kein Christ ist, zum Essen ein und ihr wollt hingehen, so esst, was aufgetragen wird, ohne eine Gewissensfrage daraus zu machen, wo es herkommt.28 Sollte euch aber jemand ausdrücklich sagen: »Dieses Fleisch stammt vom Götzenopfer!«, dann esst es seinetwegen nicht, damit ihr das Gewissen nicht belastet.

29 Es geht dabei nicht um euer eigenes Gewissen, sondern um das des anderen.
Nun mag jemand einwenden:t »Weshalb soll ich denn meine persönliche Freiheit vom Gewissen eines anderen einengen lassen?30 tWenn ich an einem Festmahl teilnehme und Gott für das Essen danke, warum wird mir mein Verhalten dann zum Vorwurf gemacht? Schließlich habe ich Gott doch für die Speise gedankt!«

31 tDarauf will ich antworten: Was immer ihr tut, was ihr auch esst oder trinkt, alles soll zur Ehre Gottes geschehen.32 tSeid für niemanden ein Hindernis zum Glauben, weder für die Juden noch für die Nichtjuden und auch nicht für die Mitchristen in der Gemeinde.

33 tDas ist auch mein Grundsatz. Ich versuche, allen in jeder Beziehung gerecht zu werden. Dabei geht es nicht um mich, sondern darum, dass möglichst viele Menschen gerettet werden.

1 For I would not, brethren, have you ignorant, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;2 and were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;3 and did all eat the same spiritual food;4 and did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of a spiritual rock that followed them: and the rock was Christ.5 Howbeit with most of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.7 Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.9 Neither let us make trial of the Lord, as some of them made trial, and perished by the serpents.10 Neither murmur ye, as some of them murmured, and perished by the destroyer.11 Now these things happened unto them by way of example; and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages are come.12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as man can bear: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation make also the way of escape, that ye may be able to endure it.14 Wherefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.15 I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not a communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not a communion of the body of Christ?17 seeing that we, who are many, are one bread, one body: for we are all partake of the one bread.18 Behold Israel after the flesh: have not they that eat the sacrifices communion with the altar?19 What say I then? that a thing sacrificed to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything?20 But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have communion with demons.21 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of demons: ye cannot partake of the table of the Lord, and of the table of demons.22 Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?23 All things are lawful; but not all things are expedient. All things are lawful; but not all things edify.24 Let no man seek his own, but each his neighbor’s good.25 Whatsoever is sold in the shambles, eat, asking no question for conscience’ sake,26 for the earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof.27 If one of them that believe not biddeth you to a feast, and ye are disposed to go; whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience’ sake.28 But if any man say unto you, This hath been offered in sacrifice, eat not, for his sake that showed it, and for conscience sake:29 conscience, I say, not thine own, but the other’s; for why is my liberty judged by another conscience?30 If I partake with thankfulness, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks?31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.32 Give no occasions of stumbling, either to Jews, or to Greeks, or to the church of God:33 even as I also please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of the many, that they may be saved.
