고린도전서 10

우상 숭배를 경고함

1  t형제자매 여러분, 나는 여러분이 이 사실을 알기를 바랍니다. 우리 조상들은 모두 구름의 보호 아래 있었고, 바다 가운데를 지나갔습니다. 2 이렇게 그들은 모두 구름과 바다 속에서 t세례를 받아 모세에게 속하게 되었습니다. 3 그들은 모두 똑같은 신령한 음식을 먹고, 4 모두 똑같은 신령한 물을 마셨습니다. 그들은 자기들과 동행하는 신령한 바위에서 물을 마신 것입니다. 그 바위는 그리스도였습니다. 5 그러나 그들의 대다수를 하나님께서는 좋아하지 않으셨습니다. 그들은 광야에서 멸망하고 말았습니다. 6 이런 일들은, 우리 조상들이 악을 좋아한 것과 같이 우리가 악을 좋아하는 사람이 되어서는 안된다는 것을, 우리에게 가르쳐주는 본보기가 되었습니다. 7 그들 가운데 얼마는 우상을 숭배했습니다. 성경에 기록하기를 t“백성들이 앉아서 먹고 마셨으며, 일어서서 춤을 추었다” 하였습니다. 여러분은 그들과 같이 우상 숭배자가 되어서는 안됩니다. 8 간음하지 맙시다. 그들 가운데 얼마가 간음을 하였고, 하루에 이만 삼천 명이나 쓰러져 죽었습니다. 9 t그리스도를 시험하지 맙시다. 그들 가운데 얼마는 그리스도를 시험하였고, 뱀에게 물려서 죽었습니다. 10 그들 가운데 얼마가 불평한 것과 같이 불평하지 마십시오. 그들은 파멸시키는 이에게 멸망을 당하였습니다. 11 이런 일들이 그들에게 일어난 것은 본보기가 되게 하려는 것이며, 그것들이 기록된 것은 말세를 만난 우리에게 경고가 되게 하려는 것입니다. 12 그러므로 서 있다고 생각하는 사람은 넘어지지 않도록 조심하십시오. 13 여러분은 사람이 흔히 겪는 시련 밖에 다른 시련을 당한 적이 없습니다. 하나님은 신실하십니다. 여러분이 감당할 수 있는 능력 이상으로 시련을 겪는 것을 하나님은 허락하지 않으십니다. 하나님께서는 시련과 함께 그것을 벗어날 길도 마련해 주셔서, 여러분이 그 시련을 견디어 낼 수 있게 해주십니다. 14 그러므로 나의 사랑하는 여러분, 우상 숭배를 멀리하십시오. 15 나는 지각 있는 사람들에게 말하듯이 말합니다. 내가 하는 말을 판단하십시오. 16 우리가 축복하는 축복의 잔은, 그리스도의 피에 참여함이 아닙니까? 우리가 떼는 빵은, 그리스도의 몸에 참여함이 아닙니까? 17 빵이 하나이므로, 우리가 여럿일지라도 한 몸입니다. 그것은 우리가 모두 그 한 덩이 빵을 함께 나누어 먹기 때문입니다. 18 t육신상의 이스라엘 백성을 보십시오. 제물을 먹는 사람들은, 그 제단에 참여하는 사람이 아닙니까? 19 그러니 내가 무엇을 말하려는 것입니까? 우상은 무엇이고, 우상에게 바친 제물은 무엇입니까? 20 아무것도 아닙니다. t이방 사람들이 바치는 제물은 귀신에게 바치는 것이지, 하나님께 바치는 것이 아닙니다. 여러분이 귀신과 친교를 가지는 사람이 되는 것을 나는 바라지 않습니다. 21 여러분은, 주님의 잔을 마시고, 아울러 귀신들의 잔을 마실 수는 없습니다. 여러분은, 주님의 식탁에 참여하고, 아울러 귀신들의 식탁에 참여할 수는 없습니다. 22 우리가 주님을 질투하시게 하려는 것입니까? 우리가 주님보다 더 힘이 세다는 말입니까?

모든 것을 하나님의 영광을 위하여

23 ‘모든 것이 다 허용된다’고 사람들은 말하지만, 모든 것이 다 유익한 것은 아닙니다. ‘모든 것이 다 허용된다’고 사람들은 말하지만, 모든 것이 다 덕을 세우는 것은 아닙니다. 24 아무도 자기의 유익을 추구하지 말고, 남의 유익을 추구하십시오. 25 시장에서 파는 것은, t양심을 위한다고 하여 그 출처를 묻지 말고, 무엇이든지 다 먹으십시오. 26 t‘땅과 거기에 가득 찬 것들이 다 주님의 것’이기 때문입니다. 27 불신자들 가운데서 누가 여러분을 초대하여, 거기에 가고 싶으면, 여러분 앞에 차려 놓은 것은 무엇이나, t양심을 위한다고 하여 묻지 말고, 드십시오. 28 그러나 어떤 사람이 “이것은 제사에 올린 음식입니다” 하고 여러분에게 말해 주거든, 그렇게 알려 준 사람과 그 양심을 위해서, 먹지 마십시오. 29 내가 여기에서 양심이라고 말하는 것은, 내 양심이 아니라, 다른 사람의 양심입니다. 어찌하여 내 자유가 남의 양심의 비판을 받아야 하겠습니까? 30 내가 감사하는 마음으로 참여하면, 내가 감사하는 그 음식 때문에 비방을 받을 까닭이 어디에 있습니까? 31 그러므로 여러분은 먹든지 마시든지, 무슨 일을 하든지, 모든 것을 하나님의 영광을 위하여 하십시오. 32 여러분은 유대 사람에게도, 그리스 사람에게도, 하나님의 교회에도, 걸림돌이 되지 마십시오. 33 나도 모든 일을 모든 사람의 마음에 들게 하려고 애씁니다. 그것은, 내가 내 이로움을 구하지 않고, 많은 사람의 이로움을 추구하여, 그들이 구원을 받게 하려는 것입니다.

Don't Worship Idols

1  t Friends, I want to remind you that all our ancestors walked under the cloud and went through the sea. 2 This was like being baptized and becoming followers of Moses. 3 t All of them also ate the same spiritual food 4 t and drank the same spiritual drink, which flowed from the spiritual rock that followed them. That rock was Christ.

5 t But most of them did not please God. So they died, and their bodies were scattered all over the desert.
6 What happened to them is a warning to keep us from wanting to do the same evil things. 7 t They worshiped idols, just as the Scriptures say, “The people sat down to eat and drink. Then they got up to dance around.” So don't worship idols. 8 t Some of those people did shameful things, and in a single day about 23,000 died. Don't do shameful things as they did. 9 t And don't try to test Christ, t as some of them did and were later bitten by poisonous snakes. 10 t Don't even grumble, as some of them did and were killed by the destroying angel.

11 These things happened to them as a warning to us. All this was written in the Scriptures to teach us who live in these last days.
12 Even if you think you can stand up to temptation, be careful not to fall.

13 t You are tempted in the same way that everyone else is tempted. But God can be trusted not to let you be tempted too much, and he will show you how to escape from your temptations.
14 My friends, you must keep away from idols. 15 I am speaking to you as people who have enough sense to know what I am talking about. 16 t When we drink from the cup we ask God to bless, isn't that sharing in the blood of Christ? When we eat the bread we break, isn't that sharing in the body of Christ?

17 By sharing in the same loaf of bread, we become one body, even though there are many of us.
18  t t Aren't the people of Israel sharing in the worship when they gather around the altar and eat the sacrifices offered there? 19 Am I saying that either the idols or the food sacrificed to them is anything at all? 20 t No, I am not! This food is really sacrificed to demons and not to God. I don't want you to have anything to do with demons. 21 You cannot drink from the cup of demons and still drink from the Lord's cup. You cannot eat at the table of demons and still eat at the Lord's table.

22 t We would make the Lord jealous if we did this. And we are not stronger than the Lord.

Always Honor God

23  t Some of you say, “We can do whatever we want to!” But I tell you not everything may be good or helpful. 24 We should think about others and not about ourselves. 25 However, when you buy meat in the market, go ahead and eat it. Keep your conscience clear by not asking where the meat came from.

26 t The Scriptures say, “The earth and everything in it belong to the Lord.”
27 If an unbeliever invites you to dinner, and you want to go, then go. Eat whatever you are served. Don't cause a problem for someone's conscience by asking where the food came from. 28-29 But if you are told it has been sacrificed to idols, don't cause a problem by eating it. I don't mean a problem for yourself, but for the one who told you. Why should my freedom be limited by someone else's conscience?

30 If I give thanks for what I eat, why should anyone accuse me of doing wrong?
31 When you eat or drink or do anything else, always do it to honor God. 32 Don't cause problems for Jews or Greeks or anyone else who belongs to God's church. 33 I always try to please others instead of myself, in the hope that many of them will be saved.
