Första Korinthierbrevet 10
Varning för avgudadyrkan
1 Jag vill att ni skall ha kunskap om detta, bröder: våra fäder hade alla molnet över sig och gick alla genom havet. 2 Alla blev de döpta i molnet och i havet till gemenskap med Mose. 3 Alla åt de samma andliga mat, 4 och alla drack de samma andliga dryck, de drack ur en andlig klippa som följde dem, och den klippan var Kristus. 5 Men de flesta av dem fann inte nåd inför Gud utan blev liggande döda i öknen. 6 Allt detta är exempel som säger oss att vi inte skall ha begär till det onda, som de hade. 7 Bli inte avgudadyrkare som många av dem blev. Om dem står det i skriften: Folket slog sig ner för att äta och dricka och steg sedan upp och förlustade sig. 8 Låt oss inte heller begå otukt som många av dem gjorde; så dödades också 23 000 på en enda dag. 9 Och låt oss inte sätta Herren på prov som många av dem gjorde; de föll offer för ormar. 10 Knota inte som många av dem gjorde; de dödades av Förgöraren. 11 Allt det som hände dem är exempel, och det skrevs ner för att vägleda oss som har tidsåldrarnas slut inpå oss. 12 Därför skall den som tror sig stå stadigt se till att han inte faller.
13 Era prövningar har inte varit övermänskliga. Gud är trofast och skall inte låta er prövas över förmåga: när han sänder prövningen visar han er också en utväg, så att ni kommer igenom den.
14 Håll er alltså borta från avgudadyrkan, mina kära. 15 Jag talar till förnuftiga människor, bedöm själva vad jag säger. 16 Välsignelsens bägare som vi välsignar, ger den oss inte gemenskap med Kristi blod? Brödet som vi bryter, ger det oss inte gemenskap med Kristi kropp? 17 Eftersom brödet är ett enda är vi — fast många — en enda kropp, för alla får vi vår del av ett och samma bröd. 18 Se på israeliterna: har inte de som äter av offren gemenskap med offeraltaret? 19 Vad vill jag säga med detta? Att det som offras till avgudar är något i sig eller att avgudar är något? 20 Nej, men att det som de offrar offrar de åt demoner och inte åt Gud, och jag vill inte att ni skall ha gemenskap med demonerna. 21 Ni kan inte dricka både ur Herrens bägare och ur demonernas bägare, inte äta både vid Herrens bord och vid demonernas bord.
22 Eller skall vi väcka Herrens svartsjuka? Är vi starkare än han?Frihet eller hänsyn
23 Allt är tillåtet — men allt är inte nyttigt. Allt är tillåtet — men allt bygger inte upp. 24 Sök inte ert eget bästa utan andras. 25 Allt som säljs i köttstånden kan ni äta utan att undersöka det för ert samvetes skull — 26 jorden är Herrens med allt den rymmer . 27 Om en som inte tror bjuder hem er och ni tackar ja, ät då allt som sätts fram för er utan att för samvetets skull undersöka vad det är. 28 Men om någon säger: ”Det här är offerkött”, ät det då inte, av hänsyn till den som säger det och för samvetets skull — 29 jag menar inte det egna samvetet utan den andres. Varför då? Skall jag låta min frihet bestämmas av en annans samvete? 30 Äter jag med tacksamhet, varför skall jag klandras för det som jag tackar Gud för? 31 Om ni äter eller dricker eller vad ni än gör, så gör allt till Guds ära. 32 Väck inte anstöt vare sig bland judar eller greker eller inom Guds församling. 33 Själv försöker jag alltid rätta mig efter alla och söker inte mitt eget bästa utan de mångas, för att de skall bli räddade.

Don't Worship Idols
1 t Friends, I want to remind you that all our ancestors walked under the cloud and went through the sea. 2 This was like being baptized and becoming followers of Moses. 3 t All of them also ate the same spiritual food 4 t and drank the same spiritual drink, which flowed from the spiritual rock that followed them. That rock was Christ.
5 t But most of them did not please God. So they died, and their bodies were scattered all over the desert.
6 What happened to them is a warning to keep us from wanting to do the same evil things. 7 t They worshiped idols, just as the Scriptures say, “The people sat down to eat and drink. Then they got up to dance around.” So don't worship idols. 8 t Some of those people did shameful things, and in a single day about 23,000 died. Don't do shameful things as they did. 9 t And don't try to test Christ, t as some of them did and were later bitten by poisonous snakes. 10 t Don't even grumble, as some of them did and were killed by the destroying angel.
11 These things happened to them as a warning to us. All this was written in the Scriptures to teach us who live in these last days.
12 Even if you think you can stand up to temptation, be careful not to fall.
13 t You are tempted in the same way that everyone else is tempted. But God can be trusted not to let you be tempted too much, and he will show you how to escape from your temptations.
14 My friends, you must keep away from idols. 15 I am speaking to you as people who have enough sense to know what I am talking about. 16 t When we drink from the cup we ask God to bless, isn't that sharing in the blood of Christ? When we eat the bread we break, isn't that sharing in the body of Christ?
17 By sharing in the same loaf of bread, we become one body, even though there are many of us.
18 t t Aren't the people of Israel sharing in the worship when they gather around the altar and eat the sacrifices offered there? 19 Am I saying that either the idols or the food sacrificed to them is anything at all? 20 t No, I am not! This food is really sacrificed to demons and not to God. I don't want you to have anything to do with demons. 21 You cannot drink from the cup of demons and still drink from the Lord's cup. You cannot eat at the table of demons and still eat at the Lord's table.
22 t We would make the Lord jealous if we did this. And we are not stronger than the Lord.Always Honor God
23 t Some of you say, “We can do whatever we want to!” But I tell you not everything may be good or helpful. 24 We should think about others and not about ourselves. 25 However, when you buy meat in the market, go ahead and eat it. Keep your conscience clear by not asking where the meat came from.
26 t The Scriptures say, “The earth and everything in it belong to the Lord.”
27 If an unbeliever invites you to dinner, and you want to go, then go. Eat whatever you are served. Don't cause a problem for someone's conscience by asking where the food came from. 28-29 But if you are told it has been sacrificed to idols, don't cause a problem by eating it. I don't mean a problem for yourself, but for the one who told you. Why should my freedom be limited by someone else's conscience?
30 If I give thanks for what I eat, why should anyone accuse me of doing wrong?
31 When you eat or drink or do anything else, always do it to honor God. 32 Don't cause problems for Jews or Greeks or anyone else who belongs to God's church. 33 I always try to please others instead of myself, in the hope that many of them will be saved.
