ตักเตือนไม่ให้นับถือรูปเคารพ
1 พี่น้องทั้งหลาย เพราะว่าข้าพเจ้าต้องการให้ท่านทั้งหลายเข้าใจว่า บรรพบุรุษของเราทั้งหมดได้อยู่ใต้เมฆt และได้ผ่านทะเลtไปทุกคน 2 ได้รับบัพติศมาในเมฆและในทะเลเข้าสนิทกับโมเสสทุกคน 3 ได้รับประทานอาหารฝ่ายจิตวิญญาณเดียวกันทุกคนt 4 และได้ดื่มน้ำฝ่ายจิตวิญญาณเดียวกันทุกคนt เพราะว่าพวกเขาได้ดื่มจากพระศิลาฝ่ายจิตวิญญาณที่ติดตามเขาไป พระศิลานั้นคือพระคริสต์ 5 แต่ถึงกระนั้นก็ดีมีคนส่วนมากในพวกนั้นที่พระเจ้าไม่พอพระทัย เราทราบได้จากที่เขาล้มตายกันเกลื่อนกลาดในถิ่นทุรกันดารt
6 เหตุการณ์เหล่านี้เป็นเครื่องเตือนใจเราไม่ให้ปรารถนาสิ่งชั่วเหมือนเขาทั้งหลายt 7 พวกท่านอย่านับถือรูปเคารพเหมือนบางคนในพวกเขาได้ทำ ดังที่มีเขียนไว้ว่า “ประชาชนก็นั่งลงกินและดื่ม แล้วก็ลุกขึ้นเล่นสนุกสนาน” t 8 อย่าให้เราล่วงประเวณีเหมือนบางคนในพวกเขาได้ทำ แล้วก็ล้มลงตายในวันเดียวสองหมื่นสามพันคนt 9 อย่าให้เราลองดีพระคริสต์t เหมือนบางคนในพวกเขาได้ทำ แล้วต้องพินาศด้วยงูร้ายt 10 อย่าให้เราบ่นเหมือนบางคนในพวกเขาได้ทำ แล้วต้องพินาศด้วยองค์เพชฌฆาตt 11 เหตุการณ์เหล่านี้เกิดขึ้นกับพวกเขาเพื่อเป็นตัวอย่าง และได้เขียนไว้เพื่อเตือนสติเราผู้ซึ่งมาถึงวาระสุดท้ายของยุคนี้แล้ว 12 เพราะเหตุนี้คนที่คิดว่าตัวเองมั่นคงดีแล้ว ก็จงระวังไม่ให้ล้มลง 13 ไม่มีการทดลองใดๆ เกิดขึ้นกับท่านทั้งหลาย นอกเหนือการทดลองซึ่งเคยเกิดกับมนุษย์ พระเจ้าทรงซื่อสัตย์ พระองค์จะไม่ทรงให้พวกท่านต้องถูกทดลองเกินกว่าที่ท่านจะทนได้ และเมื่อถูกทดลอง พระองค์จะทรงให้มีทางออกด้วย เพื่อพวกท่านจะมีกำลังทนได้
14 เพราะฉะนั้น พวกที่รักของข้าพเจ้า จงหลีกหนีการนับถือรูปเคารพ 15 ข้าพเจ้าพูดกับท่านอย่างพูดกับคนมีปัญญา พวกท่านจงพิจารณาถ้อยคำที่ข้าพเจ้าพูดนั้นเถิด 16 ถ้วยแห่งพร ซึ่งเราได้ขอพรนั้นทำให้เรามีส่วนร่วมในพระโลหิตของพระคริสต์ไม่ใช่หรือ? ขนมปังซึ่งเราหักนั้นทำให้เรามีส่วนร่วมในพระกายของพระคริสต์ไม่ใช่หรือ? t 17 แม้เราเป็นบุคคลหลายคน แต่เนื่องจากมีขนมก้อนเดียว เราจึงเป็นร่างกายเดียว เพราะว่าเราทุกคนรับประทานขนมก้อนเดียวกัน 18 จงพิจารณาดูการปฏิบัติของพวกอิสราเอล คนที่รับประทานของบูชานั้นก็มีส่วนร่วมในแท่นบูชานั้นไม่ใช่หรือ? t 19 ถ้าเช่นนั้นข้าพเจ้าหมายความว่าอย่างไร เครื่องบูชาที่ถวายแก่รูปเคารพนั้น เป็นของศักดิ์สิทธิ์หรือ? รูปเคารพนั้นศักดิ์สิทธิ์หรือ? 20 ไม่ใช่ ข้าพเจ้าหมายความว่าเครื่องบูชาที่พวกเขาถวายนั้น เขาถวายบูชาแก่พวกผี ไม่ใช่ถวายแด่พระเจ้าt ข้าพเจ้าไม่ต้องการให้พวกท่านมีส่วนร่วมกับพวกผี 21 ท่านจะดื่มจากถ้วยขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าและจากถ้วยของพวกผีด้วยไม่ได้ จะรับประทานที่โต๊ะขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า และที่โต๊ะของพวกผีด้วยก็ไม่ได้ 22 เราจะยั่วยุให้องค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงอิจฉาหรือ? t เรามีกำลังมากกว่าพระองค์หรือ?
จงทำทุกสิ่งเพื่อถวายพระเกียรติแด่พระเจ้า
23 เราทำทุกสิ่งได้ แต่ไม่ใช่ทุกสิ่งนั้นจะเป็นประโยชน์t เราทำทุกสิ่งได้ แต่ไม่ใช่ทุกสิ่งนั้นทำให้เจริญขึ้น 24 อย่าให้ใครเห็นแก่ประโยชน์ส่วนตัว แต่จงเห็นแก่ประโยชน์ของคนอื่นๆ 25 ทุกสิ่งที่ขายตามตลาดเนื้อนั้นรับประทานได้ ไม่ต้องถามอะไรเนื่องจากมโนธรรม 26 เพราะ “แผ่นดินโลกกับสรรพสิ่งในโลกนั้นเป็นขององค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า”t 27 ถ้าคนที่ไม่เชื่อเชิญพวกท่านไปในงานเลี้ยง และท่านต้องการจะไป ทุกสิ่งที่เขาตั้งให้รับประทาน ก็รับประทานได้ โดยไม่ต้องถามอะไรเนื่องจากมโนธรรม 28 แต่ถ้ามีใครมาบอกพวกท่านว่า “ของนี้เขาถวายแก่รูปเคารพแล้ว” ท่านก็อย่ารับประทานเพื่อเห็นแก่คนที่บอกนั้น และเพื่อเห็นแก่มโนธรรมด้วย 29 (ข้าพเจ้าไม่ได้หมายถึงมโนธรรมของพวกท่าน แต่หมายถึงมโนธรรมของคนที่บอกนั้น) ทำไมเสรีภาพของข้าพเจ้าต้องถูกตัดสินด้วยมโนธรรมของคนอื่น? 30 ถ้าข้าพเจ้ารับประทานด้วยขอบพระคุณ ทำไมข้าพเจ้าต้องถูกว่าร้ายเพราะสิ่งที่ได้ขอบพระคุณแล้ว? 31 เพราะฉะนั้นเมื่อพวกท่านจะรับประทาน จะดื่ม หรือจะทำอะไรก็ตาม จงทำเพื่อถวายพระเกียรติแด่พระเจ้า 32 อย่าเป็นต้นเหตุที่ทำให้พวกยิว หรือพวกกรีก หรือคริสตจักรของพระเจ้าหลงผิดไป 33 และให้เป็นเหมือนข้าพเจ้าเองที่พยายามทำทุกสิ่งเพื่อให้พอใจทุกคน ไม่ได้เห็นแก่ประโยชน์ส่วนตัว แต่เห็นแก่ประโยชน์ของคนมากมาย เพื่อให้เขาทั้งหลายได้รับความรอด
1 Corinthians 10
1 For I would not, brethren, have you ignorant, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;2 and were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;3 and did all eat the same spiritual food;4 and did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of a spiritual rock that followed them: and the rock was Christ.5 Howbeit with most of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.7 Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.9 Neither let us make trial of the Lord, as some of them made trial, and perished by the serpents.10 Neither murmur ye, as some of them murmured, and perished by the destroyer.11 Now these things happened unto them by way of example; and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages are come.12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as man can bear: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation make also the way of escape, that ye may be able to endure it.14 Wherefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.15 I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not a communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not a communion of the body of Christ?17 seeing that we, who are many, are one bread, one body: for we are all partake of the one bread.18 Behold Israel after the flesh: have not they that eat the sacrifices communion with the altar?19 What say I then? that a thing sacrificed to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything?20 But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have communion with demons.21 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of demons: ye cannot partake of the table of the Lord, and of the table of demons.22 Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?23 All things are lawful; but not all things are expedient. All things are lawful; but not all things edify.24 Let no man seek his own, but each his neighbor’s good.25 Whatsoever is sold in the shambles, eat, asking no question for conscience’ sake,26 for the earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof.27 If one of them that believe not biddeth you to a feast, and ye are disposed to go; whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience’ sake.28 But if any man say unto you, This hath been offered in sacrifice, eat not, for his sake that showed it, and for conscience sake:29 conscience, I say, not thine own, but the other’s; for why is my liberty judged by another conscience?30 If I partake with thankfulness, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks?31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.32 Give no occasions of stumbling, either to Jews, or to Greeks, or to the church of God:33 even as I also please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of the many, that they may be saved.
