El criterio de la prudencia. Ejemplo de Israel
1 No quiero, hermanos, que olvidéis que nuestros antepasados estuvieron todos bajo aquella nube, y todos atravesaron el mar Rojo. 2 De este modo, todos ellos quedaron unidos a Moisés al ser bautizados en la nube y en el mar.t 3 Igualmente, todos ellos comieron el mismo alimento espiritualt 4 y bebieron la misma bebida espiritual.t Porque bebían agua de la roca espiritual que los acompañaba en su viaje, la cual era Cristo.t
5 Sin embargo, la mayoría de ellos no agradó a Dios, y por eso sus cuerpos quedaron tendidos en el desierto.t
6 Todo esto sucedió como un ejemplo para nosotros, para que no deseemos el mal, como ellos lo desearon.t 7 Por tanto, no adoréis ídolos, como algunos de ellos hicieron, según dice la Escritura: “La gente se sentó a comer y beber y luego se levantó a divertirse.”t 8 No cometamos inmoralidades sexuales, como algunos de ellos las cometieron, por lo que en un solo día murieron veintitrés mil.t 9 Tampoco pongamos a prueba a Cristo,t como algunos de ellos hicieron, por lo que murieron mordidos por las serpientes;t
10 ni murmuréis contra Dios, como algunos de ellos murmuraron, por lo que el ángel de la muerte los mató.t
11 Todo esto les sucedió a nuestros antepasados como un ejemplo para nosotros,t y fue puesto en las Escrituras como una advertencia para los que vivimos en estos tiempos últimos. 12 Así pues, el que cree estar firme tenga cuidado de no caer.
13 Vosotros no habéis pasado por ninguna prueba que no sea humanamente soportable. Y podéis confiar en Dios,t que no os dejará sufrir pruebast más duras de lo que podáis soportar. Por el contrario, cuando llegue la prueba, Dios os dará también el modo de salir de ella, para que podáis soportarla.Somos un solo cuerpo
14 Por eso, mis queridos hermanos, huid de la idolatría.t 15 Os hablo como a personas entendidas, y vosotros mismos podéis juzgar lo que digo. 16 Beber de la copa bendita por la cual bendecimos a Dios,t ¿no es comunión con la sangre de Cristo? Y comer del pan que partimos, ¿no es comunión con el cuerpo de Cristo?t
17 Uno solo es el pan, y nosotros, aunque somos muchos, formamos un solo cuerpo al compartir el mismo pan.t
18 Fijaos en el pueblo de Israel: quienes comen de los animales ofrecidos en sacrificio participan del propio sacrificio.t 19 Con esto no quiero decir que el ídolo tenga valor alguno ni que la carne ofrecida al ídolo sea algo más que otra carne cualquiera.t 20 Lo que digo es que, cuando los paganos ofrecen algo en sacrificio, lo ofrecen a los demonios y no a Dios.t Y yo no quiero que vosotros tengáis parte con los demonios. 21 No podéis beber de la copa del Señor y, a la vez, de la copa de los demonios; ni podéis participar de la mesa del Señor y, a la vez, de la mesa de los demonios.t
22 ¿O es que queremos poner celoso al Señor?t ¿Somos acaso más fuertes que él?Del respeto a la conciencia ajena
23 Se dice: “Uno es libre de hacer lo que quiera.” Es cierto, pero no todo conviene.t Sí, uno es libre de hacer lo que quiera, pero no todo es edificante.
24 Que nadie, pues, busque su propio bien sino el bien de los demás.t
25 Comed de todo lo que se vende en la carnicería, sin preguntar nada por motivos de conciencia,
26 porque el mundo entero, con todo lo que hay en él, es del Señor.t
27 Si uno que no es creyente os invita a comer y vosotros queréis ir, comed de todo lo que os sirvan sin preguntar nada por motivos de conciencia. 28 Ahora bien, si alguien os dice: “Esta carne ha sido ofrecida en sacrificio”, entonces no la comáis, en atención al que lo dijo y por motivos de conciencia.t
29 Me estoy refiriendo a la conciencia del otro, no a la vuestra.t
Pero alguien puede preguntar: “¿Por qué se ha de juzgar mi libertad según la conciencia de otra persona? 30 Y si doy gracias a Dios por lo que como, ¿por qué han de criticarme por comerlo?” 31 En todo caso, lo mismo si coméis, que si bebéis, que si hacéis cualquier otra cosa, hacedlo todo para la gloria de Dios.t 32 No deis mal ejemplo a nadie: ni a los judíos, ni a los no judíos, ni a los que pertenecen a la iglesia de Dios. 33 Yo, por mi parte, procuro agradar a todos en todo, sin buscar mi propio bien sino el de los demás, para que alcancen la salvación.

Learning from Israel’s Failures
1 For I do not want you to be unaware,t brothers and sisters,t that our fathers were all under the cloud and all passed through the sea,2 and all were baptizeds into Moses in the cloud and in the sea,3 and all ate the same spiritual food,4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they were all drinking from the spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was Christ.5 But God was not pleased with most of them, for they were cut down in the wilderness.6 These things happened as examples for us, so that we will not crave evil things as they did.7 So do not be idolaters, as some of them were. As it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.”ts8 And let us not be immoral, as some of them were, and twenty-three thousand died in a single day.s9 And let us not put Christss to the test, as some of them did, and were destroyed by snakes.s10 And do not complain, as some of them did, and were killed by the destroying angel.ts11 These things happened to them as examples and were written for our instruction, on whom the ends of the ages have come.12 So let the one who thinks he is standing be careful that he does not fall.
13 No trial has overtaken you that is not faced by others.t And God is faithful: Het will not let you be tried beyond what you are able to bear,t but with the trial will also provide a way out so that you may be able to endure it.
Avoid Idol Feasts
14 So then, my dear friends, flee from idolatry.15 I am speaking to thoughtful people. Consider what I say.16 Is not the cup of blessing that we bless a sharing in the blood of Christ? Is not the bread that we break a sharing in the body of Christ?17 Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, for we all share the one bread.18 Look at the people of Israel.t Are not those who eat the sacrifices partners in the altar?19 Am I saying that idols or food sacrificed to them amount to anything?20 No, I mean that what the pagans sacrificet is to demons and not to God. I do not want you to be partners with demons.21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot take part in the table of the Lord and the table of demons.
22 Or are we trying to provoke the Lord to jealousy? Are we really stronger than he is?t
23 “Everything is lawful,” but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is lawful,”s but not everything builds others up.t24 Do not seek your own good, but the good of the other person.25 Eat anything that is sold in the marketplace without questions of conscience,26 for the earth and its abundance are the Lord’s.s27 If an unbeliever invites you to dinner and you want to go, eat whatever is served without asking questions of conscience.28 But if someone says to you, “This is from a sacrifice,” do not eat, because of the one who told you and because of consciences –29 I do not mean yours but the other person’s. For why is my freedom being judged by another’s conscience?30 If I partake with thankfulness, why am I blamed for the foodt that I give thanks for?31 So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.32 Do not give offense to Jews or Greeks or to the church of God,33 just as I also try to please everyone in all things. I do not seek my own benefit, but the benefitt of many, so that they may be saved.
