Învățăminte din istoria lui Israel

1 Fraților, nu vreau să nu știți că toți strămoșii noștri erau sub nor, toți au trecut prin mare,2 toți au fost botezați pentru Moise în nor și în mare,3 toți au mâncat aceeași hrană duhovnicească4 și toți au băut aceeași băutură duhovnicească, pentru că au băut din Stânca duhovnicească Care-i însoțea, iar Stânca era Cristos.5 Totuși, Dumnezeu n-a fost mulțumit cu cei mai mulți dintre ei, iar trupurile lor au fost împrăștiate prin pustie.6 Aceste lucruri sunt exemple pentru noi, pentru ca noi să nu dorim lucruri rele, așa cum au dorit ei.7 Să nu fiți idolatri, așa cum au fost unii dintre ei, după cum este scris: „Poporul s-a așezat să mănânce și să bea, după care s-a sculat să se distreze.“t8 Să nu fim desfrânați, așa cum au fost unii dintre ei, astfel că într-o singură zi au murit douăzeci și trei de mii.9 Să nu-L punem pe Cristos la încercare, așa cum au făcut unii dintre ei și au fost omorâți de șerpi.10 Să nu cârtiți, așa cum au făcut unii dintre ei și au fost nimiciți de nimicitorul.11 Aceste lucruri li s-au întâmplat lor pentru a ne servi nouă drept exemple și au fost scrise pentru a ne avertiza pe noi, cei peste care urmau să vină sfârșiturile veacurilor.

12 Așadar, cel ce crede că stă în picioare, să aibă grijă să nu cadă!13 Nu v-a cuprins nici o ispită care să nu fie potrivită cu puterea omenească. Și Dumnezeu, Care este credincios, nu va permite să fiți ispitiți peste puterea voastră, ci odată cu ispita a pregătit și mijlocul de a o putea răbda.

Jertfele aduse idolilor și Cina Domnului

14 De aceea, preaiubiții mei, fugiți de idolatrie!15 Vorbesc cu voi ca și cu niște oameni înțelepți. Judecați singuri ceea ce vă spun!16 Paharul binecuvântării, pe care îl binecuvântăm, nu este oare părtășia cu sângele lui Isus Cristos? Pâinea pe care o frângem nu este oare părtășia cu trupul lui Cristos?17 Pentru că este o pâine, noi, care suntem mulți, suntem un trup, întrucât toți mâncăm dintr-o singură pâine.18 Uitați-vă la Israelul după trupt: cei ce mănâncă jertfele nu sunt oare în părtășie cu altarul?19 Deci, ce zic eu? Că ce este jertfit idolilor este ceva sau că idolul este ceva?20 Nu, ci că jertfele păgânilor sunt aduse demonilor, nu lui Dumnezeu. Iar eu nu vreau ca voi să fiți în părtășie cu demonii!21 Nu puteți bea și paharul Domnului, și paharul demonilor! Nu puteți lua parte și la masa Domnului, și la masa demonilor!22 Sau vrem oare să-L facem gelos pe Domnul?! Suntem noi mai puternici decât El?

Trăiți pentru slava lui Dumnezeu!

23 Toate sunt îngăduite, dar nu toate sunt de folos. Toate sunt îngăduite, dar nu toate zidesc.24 Nimeni nu trebuie să urmărească binele propriu, ci binele altuia.25 Mâncați orice se vinde pe piața de carne, fără să vă puneți vreo întrebare din cauza conștiinței,26 căci „al Domnului este pământul cu tot ce este pe el!“t27 Dacă un necredincios vă cheamă la masă și vreți să mergeți, mâncați orice vi se va da, fără să vă puneți vreo întrebare, din cauza conștiinței.28 Dacă însă cineva vă spune: „Aceasta a fost adusă ca jertfă!“, atunci să nu mâncați, din cauza celui care v-a spus și din cauza conștiinței (căci „al Domnului este pământul cu tot ce este pe el“)t;29 mă refer la conștiința celuilalt, nu la a voastră. Căci de ce să fie judecată libertatea mea de conștiința altuia?30 Dacă eu mulțumesc pentru mâncarea pe care o mănânc, de ce să fiu disprețuit din cauza unui lucru pentru care mulțumesc?31 Așadar, fie că mâncați, fie că beți sau orice altceva faceți, să le faceți pe toate pentru slava lui Dumnezeu.32 Să nu fiți pricină de poticnire nici pentru iudei, nici pentru greci, nici pentru biserica lui Dumnezeu,33 așa cum, de altfel, încerc și eu, în toate lucrurile, să plac tuturor, necăutând folosul meu, ci al multora, pentru a fi mântuiți!

Don't Worship Idols

1  t Friends, I want to remind you that all our ancestors walked under the cloud and went through the sea. 2 This was like being baptized and becoming followers of Moses. 3 t All of them also ate the same spiritual food 4 t and drank the same spiritual drink, which flowed from the spiritual rock that followed them. That rock was Christ.

5 t But most of them did not please God. So they died, and their bodies were scattered all over the desert.
6 What happened to them is a warning to keep us from wanting to do the same evil things. 7 t They worshiped idols, just as the Scriptures say, “The people sat down to eat and drink. Then they got up to dance around.” So don't worship idols. 8 t Some of those people did shameful things, and in a single day about 23,000 died. Don't do shameful things as they did. 9 t And don't try to test Christ, t as some of them did and were later bitten by poisonous snakes. 10 t Don't even grumble, as some of them did and were killed by the destroying angel.

11 These things happened to them as a warning to us. All this was written in the Scriptures to teach us who live in these last days.
12 Even if you think you can stand up to temptation, be careful not to fall.

13 t You are tempted in the same way that everyone else is tempted. But God can be trusted not to let you be tempted too much, and he will show you how to escape from your temptations.
14 My friends, you must keep away from idols. 15 I am speaking to you as people who have enough sense to know what I am talking about. 16 t When we drink from the cup we ask God to bless, isn't that sharing in the blood of Christ? When we eat the bread we break, isn't that sharing in the body of Christ?

17 By sharing in the same loaf of bread, we become one body, even though there are many of us.
18  t t Aren't the people of Israel sharing in the worship when they gather around the altar and eat the sacrifices offered there? 19 Am I saying that either the idols or the food sacrificed to them is anything at all? 20 t No, I am not! This food is really sacrificed to demons and not to God. I don't want you to have anything to do with demons. 21 You cannot drink from the cup of demons and still drink from the Lord's cup. You cannot eat at the table of demons and still eat at the Lord's table.

22 t We would make the Lord jealous if we did this. And we are not stronger than the Lord.

Always Honor God

26 t The Scriptures say, “The earth and everything in it belong to the Lord.”
27 If an unbeliever invites you to dinner, and you want to go, then go. Eat whatever you are served. Don't cause a problem for someone's conscience by asking where the food came from. 28-29 But if you are told it has been sacrificed to idols, don't cause a problem by eating it. I don't mean a problem for yourself, but for the one who told you. Why should my freedom be limited by someone else's conscience?

30 If I give thanks for what I eat, why should anyone accuse me of doing wrong?
31 When you eat or drink or do anything else, always do it to honor God. 32 Don't cause problems for Jews or Greeks or anyone else who belongs to God's church. 33 I always try to please others instead of myself, in the hope that many of them will be saved.
