1 CORINTIOS 14
El criterio del beneficio común
1 Procurad, pues, tener amor, y al mismo tiempo aspirad a que Dios os conceda los dones del Espíritu, especialmente el de profecía.t 2 Quien habla en lenguas extrañast habla a Dios y no a la gente, pues nadie lo comprende. En su espíritu dice cosas secretas, pero nadie las entiende.t 3 En cambio, el que comunica mensajes proféticos edifica espiritualmente a la comunidad, y la anima y la consuela.
4 El que habla en una lengua extrañat se edifica a sí mismo, pero el que comunica mensajes proféticos edifica a la iglesia.
5 Yo querría que todos hablarais en lenguas extrañas, pero prefiero que comuniquéis mensajes proféticos. Esto es mejor que hablar en lenguas, a menos que se interprete su significado para edificación de la iglesia.t
6 Por eso, hermanos, de nada os aprovecharía que yo os visitara y os hablase en lenguas extrañas en vez de hablaros de lo que Dios nos revela o del conocimiento de la verdad, o en vez de comunicaros algún mensaje profético o alguna enseñanza.
7 Si los instrumentos musicales, como la flauta o el arpa, no tuvieran timbres diferentes, no podrían distinguirse unos de otros. 8 Y si la trompeta no diera sus toques con claridad, nadie se prepararía para la batalla. 9 Lo mismo sucede con vosotros: si no usáis vuestra lengua para pronunciar palabras que se puedan entender, ¿cómo va a saberse lo que estáis diciendo? ¡Estaréis hablando a las paredes! 10 Hay muchos idiomas en el mundo, y ciertamente todos tienen sentido; 11 pero si no conozco el significado de las palabras seré un extranjero para el que me habla, y él será un extranjero para mí.
12 Por eso, ya que ambicionáis dones del Espíritu, procurad poseer en abundancia aquellos que ayudan a la edificación de la iglesia.
13 Por lo tanto, el que habla en lengua extrañat pídale a Dios que le conceda también el don de interpretarla; 14 pues si yo oro en una lengua extraña, ciertamente estoy orando con mi espíritu, pero mi entendimiento no participa. 15 ¿Qué, pues, debo hacer? Debo orar con el espíritu, pero también con el entendimiento; debo cantar con el espíritu, pero también con el entendimiento. 16 Porque si tú alabas a Dios solamente con el espíritu y una persona no instruida te escucha, no podrá unirse a ti en tu acción de graciast pues no entenderá lo que dices.t 17 Tu acción de gracias podrá ser muy buena, pero no ayudará a la edificación del otro. 18 Doy gracias a Dios porque hablo en lenguas extrañas más que todos vosotros;
19 pero en la iglesia prefiero decir cinco palabras que se entiendan y sirvan para enseñar a otros, que decir diez mil palabras en lengua extraña.t
20 Hermanos, no penséis como niños. Sed como niños en cuanto al mal, pero adultos en vuestro modo de pensar.t
21 En el libro de la leyt está escrito esto que dice el Señor:
“Hablaré a esta nación
en lenguas extrañas y por boca de extranjeros,
pero ni aun así me harán caso.”t
22 De modo que el hablar en lenguas es una señal para los incrédulos,t no para los creyentes; pero el comunicar mensajes proféticos es una señal para los creyentes,t no para los incrédulos. 23 Porque cuando la iglesia se encuentra reunida, si todos están hablando en lenguas y entra un simple oyente, o un incrédulo, pensará que os habéis vuelto locos. 24 En cambio, si todos están comunicando mensajes proféticos y entra un incrédulo, o un simple oyente, se convencerá de su pecado y se examinará a sí mismo al oir lo que todos dicen.
25 Así quedará al descubierto lo más profundo de su corazón, y adorará de rodillas a Dios y reconocerá que Dios está verdaderamente entre vosotros.tHágase todo decentemente y con orden
26 En resumen, hermanos, cuando os reunáis, unos podéis cantar salmost y otros enseñar, o comunicar lo que Dios os haya revelado, o hablar en lenguas, o interpretarlas. Pero que todo sea para vuestra edificación.t 27 Y cuando se trate de hablar en lenguas extrañas,t que hablen dos personas, o tres como mucho, y por turno. Además, alguien debe interpretar esas lenguas. 28 Y si no hay nadie en la iglesia capaz de interpretarlas, mejor será no hablar en lenguas, sino que cada uno hable consigo mismo y con Dios. 29 Igualmente, si hay profetas, que hablen dos o tres, y que los demás consideren lo que ellos hayan dicho. 30 Pero si Dios le revela algo a otro de los que allí están sentados, entonces el primero deberá dejar de hablar. 31 De este modo, todos, por turno, podréis comunicar mensajes proféticos, para que todos aprendan y se animen. 32 Ahora bien, el espíritu profético ha de estar sometido al control de los profetas,
33 porque Dios es Dios de paz y no de confusión.
Siguiendo la práctica general del pueblo santo, 34 las mujeres deben guardar silencio en las reuniones de la iglesia, porque no les está permitido hablar. Deben estar sometidas a sus esposos, como manda la ley de Dios.
35 Si quieren saber algo, que se lo pregunten a ellos en casa, porque no está bien que una mujer hable en las reuniones de la iglesia.t
36 Tened presente que la palabra de Dios no comenzó en vosotros ni sois vosotros los únicos que la habéis recibido. 37 Si alguien se cree profeta o cree estar inspirado por el Espíritu, reconocerá que esto que os escribo es un mandato del Señor.
38 Y si no lo reconoce, que tampoco se le reconozca a él.
39 Así pues, hermanos míos, aspirad a comunicar mensajes proféticos y no prohibáis que se hable en lenguas;
40 pero hacedlo todo decentemente y con orden.

Prophecy and Tongues
1 Pursue love and be eager for the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy.2 For the one speaking in a tongue does not speak to people but to God, for no one understands; he is speaking mysteries by the Spirit.t3 But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening,t encouragement, and consolation.4 The one who speaks in a tongue builds himself up,s but the one who prophesies builds up the church.
5 I wish you all spoke in tongues, but even more that you would prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets so that the church may be strengthened.
6 Now, brothers and sisters,t if I come to you speaking in tongues, how will I help you unless I speak to you with a revelation or with knowledge or prophecy or teaching?7 It is similar for lifeless things that make a sound, like a flute or harp. Unless they make a distinction in the notes, how can what is played on the flute or harp be understood?8 If, for example, the trumpet makes an unclear sound, who will get ready for battle?9 It is the same for you. If you do not speak clearly with your tongue, how will anyone know what is being said? For you will be speaking into the air.10 There are probably many kinds of languages in the world, and none is without meaning.11 If then I do not know the meaning of a language, I will be a foreigner to the speaker and the speaker a foreigner to me.
12 It is the same with you. Since you are eager for manifestations of the Spirit,t seek to abound in order to strengthen the church.
13 So then, one who speaks in a tongue should pray that he may interpret.14 Ifs I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unproductive.15 What should I do?t I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind. I will sing praises with my spirit, but I will also sing praises with my mind.16 Otherwise, if you are praising God with your spirit, how can someone without the giftt say “Amen” to your thanksgiving, since he does not know what you are saying?17 For you are certainly giving thanks well, but the other person is not strengthened.18 I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you,
19 but in the church I want to speak five words with my mind to instruct others, rather than ten thousand words in a tongue.
20 Brothers and sisters,t do not be children in your thinking. Instead, be infants in evil, but in your thinking be mature.21 It is written in the law: “By people with strange tongues and by the lips of strangers I will speak to this people, yet not even in this way will they listen to me,”s says the Lord.22 So then, tongues are a sign not for believers but for unbelievers. Prophecy, however, is not for unbelievers but for believers.23 So if the whole church comes together and all speak in tongues, and unbelievers or uninformed people enter, will they not say that you have lost your minds?24 But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or uninformed person enters, he will be convicted by all, he will be called to account by all.
25 The secrets of his heart are disclosed, and in this way he will fall down with his face to the ground and worship God, declaring, “God is really among you.”
Church Order
26 What should you do then, brothers and sisters?t When you come together, each one has a song, has a lesson, has a revelation, has a tongue, has an interpretation. Let all these things be done for the strengthening of the church.27 If someone speaks in a tongue, it should be two, or at the most three, one after the other, and someone must interpret.28 But if there is no interpreter, he should be silent in the church. Let him speak to himself and to God.29 Two or three prophets should speak and the others should evaluate what is said.30 And if someone sitting down receives a revelation, the person who is speaking should conclude.31 For you can all prophesy one after another, so all can learn and be encouraged.32 Indeed, the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets,
33 for God is not characterized by disorder but by peace.
As in all the churches of the saints,s34 the woment should be silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak.s Rather, let them be in submission, as in fact the law says.35 If they want to find out about something, they should ask their husbands at home, because it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in church.s
36 Did the word of God begin with you,t or did it come to you alone?
37 If anyone considers himself a prophet or spiritual person, he should acknowledge that what I write to you is the Lord’s command.38 If someone does not recognize this, he is not recognized.39 So then, brothers and sisters,st be eager to prophesy, and do not forbid anyone from speaking in tongues.t
40 And do everything in a decent and orderly manner.
