Darul profeției și al vorbirii în alte limbi

1 Urmăriți dragostea și fiți plini de râvnă după darurile duhovnicești, în special după darul profeției.2 Căci cel ce vorbește într-o limbă nu vorbește oamenilor, ci lui Dumnezeu, întrucât nimeni nu-l înțelege, iar cu duhult spune taine.3 Dar cel ce profețește le vorbește oamenilor, pentru zidire, încurajare și mângâiere.4 Cel ce vorbește într-o limbă se zidește pe sine, dar cel ce profețește zidește biserica.5 Eu vreau ca toți să vorbiți în limbi, și încă și mai mult – să profețiți. Cel ce profețește este mai mare decât cel ce vorbește în limbi, afară numai dacă nu este cineva să traducă, pentru ca biserica să poată fi zidită.

6 Acum, fraților, dacă eu vin la voi, vorbind în limbi, cu ce vă voi ajuta, dacă nu vă aduc o descoperire sau o cunoaștere sau o profeție, sau o învățătură?7 La fel este și cu lucrurile neînsuflețite, care dau un sunet, fie un fluier, fie o harfă: dacă notele nu se disting clar, cum va ști cineva ce se cântă la fluier sau la harfă?8 Dacă trâmbița dă un sunet neclar, cine va fi gata pentru bătălie?9 Așa este și cu voi: dacă nu spuneți cuvinte care să fie înțelese în limba voastră, cum va înțelege cineva ce spuneți? Veți vorbi în vânt!10 Fără îndoială, există în lume tot felul de limbi diferite și nici una nu este fără sens.11 Așadar, dacă eu nu înțeleg ceea ce se spune, eu voi fi un barbart pentru cel care vorbește, iar cel care vorbește va fi un barbar pentru mine.12 La fel și cu voi: întrucât sunteți plini de râvnă pentru daruri duhovnicești, căutați să le manifestați pe deplin, pentru zidirea bisericii.13 De aceea, cel care vorbește într-o limbă să se roage și pentru puterea de a o traduce.14 Căci, dacă mă rog într-o limbă, duhul meu se roagă, însă mintea mea este neroditoare.15 Așadar, ce voi face? Mă voi ruga cu duhul, dar mă voi ruga și cu mintea, voi cânta laude cu duhul, dar voi cânta laude și cu mintea.16 Când tu mulțumești doar cu duhul, cum poate cineva, care nu înțeleget, să ia parte la întâlnire și să spună „Amin!“ la mulțumirea ta, dacă el nu știe ce spui?17 Tu poți mulțumi bine, însă celălalt nu este zidit.18 Eu Îi mulțumesc lui Dumnezeu că vorbesc în limbi mai mult decât voi toți,19 dar în biserică vreau mai degrabă să spun cinci cuvinte cu mintea mea, pentru a-i învăța pe alții, decât zece mii de cuvinte într-o altă limbă.

20 Fraților, nu fiți copii în gândire, ci fiți copii în ce privește răul, iar în gândire fiți maturi.

21 În Lege este scris:
„Într-o altă limbă
și prin buze străine
voi vorbi acestui popor,
dar nici atunci nu Mă vor asculta, zice Domnul.“t

22 Astfel, limbile sunt un semnt nu pentru credincioși, ci pentru necredincioși, în timp ce profeția nu este un semn pentru necredincioși, ci pentru credincioși.23 De aceea, dacă se adună întreaga biserică și toți vorbesc în limbi și intră cineva care nu înțelege sau intră niște necredincioși, oare nu vor spune ei că v-ați ieșit din minți?24 Dar dacă toți profețiți și intră un necredincios sau cineva care nu înțelege, va fi mustrat de toți, va fi judecat de toți,25 vor fi descoperite gândurile secrete ale inimii lui și astfel va cădea la pământ și I se va închina lui Dumnezeu, spunând: „Într-adevăr, Dumnezeu este în mijlocul vostru!“

O ordine a închinării

26 Deci, ce ar trebui făcut, fraților? Când vă adunați, fiecare are un psalm, un cuvânt de învățătură, o descoperire, o vorbă în altă limbă, o interpretare. Toate să fie făcute pentru zidire.27 Dacă cineva vorbește într-o limbă, să fie doi sau cel mult trei, să fie unul după altul, iar unul să traducă.28 Dacă însă nu este nimeni care să traducă, atunci să nu vorbească în biserică, ci să-și vorbească lui însuși și lui Dumnezeu.29 Să vorbească doi sau trei profeți, iar alții să judece cu atenție ce este spus.30 Dacă însă altuia, care stă jos, i se dă o descoperire, primul să tacă.31 Toți dintre voi pot profeți pe rând, pentru ca toți să învețe și toți să fie încurajați.32 Duhurile profeților le sunt supuse profeților,

33 pentru că Dumnezeu nu este un Dumnezeu al dezordinii, ci al păcii.
La fel ca în toate bisericile sfinților,34 femeile să tacă în bisericit, pentru că nu le este permis să vorbească, ci să fie supuse, așa cum spune și Legea.35 Dacă vor să afle ceva, să-și întrebe soții acasă, pentru că este rușinos pentru o femeie să vorbească în biserică.36 Sau oare Cuvântul lui Dumnezeu a început cu voi? Sau voi sunteți singurii pe care i-a atins?

37 Dacă cineva crede că este profet sau este înzestrat duhovnicește, trebuie să-și dea seama că ceea ce vă scriu este o poruncă a Domnului.38 Dacă însă cineva nu recunoaște aceasta, nici el nu va fi recunoscutt.39 Astfel, frații mei, fiți plini de râvnă pentru a profeți și nu interziceți vorbirea în limbi.40 Totul trebuie să fie făcut așa cum se cuvine și în ordine.

Speaking Unknown Languages //and Prophesying

1 Love should be your guide. Be eager to have the gifts that come from the Holy Spirit, especially the gift of prophecy. 2 If you speak languages that others don't know, God will understand what you are saying, though no one else will know what you mean. You will be talking about mysteries that only the Spirit understands.

3 But when you prophesy, you will be understood, and others will be helped. They will be encouraged and made to feel better.
4 By speaking languages that others don't know, you help only yourself. But by prophesying you help everyone in the church.

5 I am glad for you to speak unknown languages, although I prefer that you would prophesy. In fact, prophesying does much more good than speaking unknown languages, unless someone can help the church by explaining what you mean.
6 My friends, what good would it do, if I came and spoke unknown languages to you and didn't explain what I meant? How would I help you, unless I told you what God had shown me or gave you some knowledge or prophecy or teaching? 7 If all musical instruments sounded alike, how would you know the difference between a flute and a harp?

8 If a bugle call isn't clear, how would you know to get ready for battle?
9 This is how it is when you speak unknown languages. If no one can understand what you are talking about, you will only be talking to the wind. 10 There are many different languages in this world, and all of them make sense. 11 But if I don't understand the language that someone is using, we will be like foreigners to each other.

12 If you really want spiritual gifts, choose the ones that will be most helpful to the church.
13 When we speak languages that others don't know, we should pray for the power to explain what we mean. 14 For example, if I use an unknown language in my prayers, my spirit prays but my mind is useless.

15 Then what should I do? There are times when I should pray with my spirit, and times when I should pray with my mind. Sometimes I should sing with my spirit, and at other times I should sing with my mind.
16 Suppose some strangers are in your worship service, when you are praising God with your spirit. If they don't understand you, how will they know to say, “Amen”? 17 You may be worshiping God in a wonderful way, but no one else will be helped. 18 I thank God that I speak unknown languages more than any of you.

19 But words that make sense can help the church. This is why in church I would rather speak five words that make sense than to speak 10,000 words in a language that others don't know.
20 My friends, stop thinking like children. Think like mature people and be as innocent as tiny babies.

21 t In the Scriptures the Lord says,
“I will use strangers
who speak unknown languages
to talk to my people.
They will speak to them
in foreign languages,
but still my people
won't listen to me.”
22 Languages others don't know may mean something to unbelievers, but not to the Lord's followers. Prophecy, on the other hand, is for followers, not for unbelievers. 23 Suppose everyone in your worship service started speaking unknown languages, and some outsiders or some unbelievers come in. Won't they think you are crazy? 24 But suppose all of you are prophesying when those unbelievers and outsiders come in. They will realize that they are sinners, and they will want to change their ways because of what you are saying.

25 They will tell what is hidden in their hearts. Then they will kneel down and say to God, “We are certain that you are with these people.”

Worship Must Be Orderly

28 If no one can explain, you must keep silent in church and speak only to yourself and to God.
29 Two or three persons may prophesy, and everyone else must listen carefully. 30 If someone sitting there receives a message from God, the speaker must stop and let the other person speak. 31 Let only one person speak at a time, then all of you will learn something and be encouraged. 32 A prophet should be willing to stop and let someone else speak.

33 God wants everything to be done peacefully and in order.
When God's people meet in church, 34 the women must not be allowed to speak. They must keep quiet and listen, as the Law of Moses teaches.

35 If there is something they want to know, they can ask their husbands when they get home. It is disgraceful for women to speak in church.

36 God's message did not start with you people, and you are not the only ones it has reached.
37 If you think of yourself as a prophet or a spiritual person, you will know I am writing only what the Lord has commanded. 38 So don't pay attention to anyone who ignores what I am writing. 39 My friends, be eager to prophesy and don't stop anyone from speaking languages that others don't know. 40 But do everything properly and in order.
