Las capacidades más importantes

1 Procuren amar con sinceridad, y pídanle al Espíritu Santo que los capacite de manera especial para hablar de parte de Dios.

2-4 Cuando ustedes hablan en un idioma extraño, se ayudan sólo a ustedes mismos. Dios los entiende, porque hablan de verdades secretas que sólo el Espíritu Santo conoce. Pero aparte de él, nadie más sabe lo que ustedes dicen. En cambio, cuando Dios les ordena hablar de su parte, la gente sí los entiende. Además, así ustedes ayudan a todos en la iglesia a confiar más en Cristo, a sentirse mejor y a estar alegres.

5 Me gustaría que todos ustedes hablaran en idiomas desconocidos, pero más me gustaría que hablaran de parte de Dios. En realidad, es más importante hablar de parte de Dios que hablar en idiomas que otros no entienden, a menos que alguien pueda traducir lo que se dice. Porque así se ayuda a los miembros de la iglesia.

6 Hermanos míos, si yo fuera a visitarlos y les hablara en idiomas desconocidos, ¿de qué les serviría? Solamente los ayudaría si les diera a conocer algo desconocido, o si les diera algún conocimiento, o si les comunicara algún mensaje de parte de Dios, o alguna enseñanza.
7 Si todos los instrumentos musicales tuvieran el mismo sonido, ¿cómo podría distinguirse una flauta de un arpa?8 Si en una guerra nadie pudiera distinguir el sonido de la trompeta que anuncia la batalla, ninguno se prepararía para combatir.

9 Algo así pasa cuando ustedes hablan en idiomas desconocidos. Si nadie entiende lo que significan, es como si estuvieran hablándole al aire.
10 En el mundo hay muchos idiomas, y en todos ellos se pueden decir cosas que tienen sentido.11 Pero si alguien me habla y yo no entiendo lo que dice, esa persona pensará que soy un extranjero. Y lo mismo pensaré yo, si esa persona no me entiende a mí.

12 Por eso, ya que desean las capacidades que da el Espíritu, traten de tener aquellas que ayuden a todos los de la iglesia.
13 Por lo tanto, cuando ustedes hablen en idiomas desconocidos, deben pedirle a Dios que les dé la capacidad de explicar lo que estén diciendo.14 Por ejemplo, si yo oro en un idioma desconocido, el que ora es mi espíritu, porque yo no entiendo lo que digo.15 ¿Qué debo hacer entonces? Pues orar y cantar con mi espíritu, pero también orar y cantar con mi entendimiento.16 Porque si tú das gracias a Dios con tu espíritu, y te escucha algún extraño, no podrá unirse a tu oración si no entiende lo que dices. Y no podrá hacerlo, porque no habrá comprendido nada.

17 Tu oración podrá ser muy buena, pero no estarás ayudando a nadie.
18 Yo le doy gracias a Dios de que hablo en idiomas desconocidos más que todos ustedes.

19 Sin embargo, cuando estoy en la iglesia, prefiero decir cinco palabras que se entiendan y que ayuden a otros, más que decir diez mil palabras en un idioma que nadie entiende.
20 Hermanos en Cristo, sean inocentes como niños, pero no piensen como niños. Piensen como personas maduras.

21 Dios dice en la Biblia:

«Le hablaré a este pueblo
por medio de extranjeros
y en idiomas desconocidos.
¡Pero ni así me harán caso!»

22 Por lo tanto, hablar en idiomas desconocidos podrá probarles algo a los no cristianos, pero para los cristianos esos idiomas no prueban nada. En cambio, los mensajes de parte de Dios son para los cristianos, no para los que no creen en Dios.
23 Supongamos que todos los de la iglesia se reúnen y comienzan a hablar en idiomas desconocidos. Si en ese momento entra gente de afuera, o llegan algunos que no creen en Cristo, van a pensar que ustedes están locos.24 Pero si todos ustedes hablan de parte de Dios, esa gente se dará cuenta de que es pecadora,

25 y les confiará a ustedes hasta sus pensamientos más secretos. Luego se arrodillará delante de Dios, lo adorará, y reconocerá que, en verdad, Dios está entre ustedes.

Las reuniones de la iglesia

26 Hermanos míos, cuando se reúnan, todo lo que hagan debe ayudar a los demás. Unos pueden cantar, otros pueden enseñar o comunicar lo que Dios les haya mostrado, otros pueden hablar en idiomas desconocidos, o traducir lo que se dice en esos idiomas.27 Si algunos hablan en idiomas desconocidos, que no sean más de dos o tres personas, y que cada uno espere su turno para hablar. Además, alguien debe traducir lo que estén diciendo.

28 Pero si no hay en la iglesia nadie que traduzca, entonces deben callarse, o hablar sólo para sí mismos y para Dios.
29 Y si algunos hablan de parte de Dios, que sean sólo dos o tres personas. Los demás deben prestar atención, para ver si el mensaje es de parte de Dios o no.30 Pero si alguno de los que están sentados recibe un mensaje de Dios, el que está hablando debe callarse y dejar que la otra persona diga lo que tenga que decir.31 Así todos tendrán la oportunidad de anunciar un mensaje de Dios, y todos los que escuchan podrán aprender y sentirse animados.32 La persona que hable de parte de Dios podrá decidir cuándo hablar y cuándo callar.

33 Porque a Dios no le gusta el desorden y el alboroto, sino la paz y el orden.
Como es la costumbre en nuestras iglesias,34 las mujeres deben guardar silencio en las reuniones. No está permitido que ellas hablen; más bien, deben mostrarse respetuosas como dice la ley de Moisés.

35 Si quieren aprender algo, que les pregunten a sus esposos cuando ya estén en su casa. Se ve mal que la mujer hable en la iglesia.
36 Ustedes no inventaron el mensaje de Dios, ni fueron los únicos que lo recibieron.37 Si alguien cree que puede hablar de parte de Dios, o cree que obedece al Espíritu Santo en todo, debe reconocer que esto que les escribo es una orden de Dios.

38 Pero si no lo quiere reconocer, ustedes no deben prestarle atención.
39 Mis queridos hermanos, ustedes deben procurar hablar de parte de Dios, y no impidan que se hable en idiomas desconocidos.

40 Pero háganlo todo de manera correcta y ordenada.

1 Follow after love; yet desire earnestly spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.2 For he that speaketh in a tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God; for no man understandeth; but in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men edification, and exhortation, and consolation.4 He that speaketh in a tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.5 Now I would have you all speak with tongues, but rather that ye should prophesy: and greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.6 But now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, unless I speak to you either by way of revelation, or of knowledge, or of prophesying, or of teaching?7 Even things without life, giving a voice, whether pipe or harp, if they give not a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped?8 For if the trumpet give an uncertain voice, who shall prepare himself for war?9 So also ye, unless ye utter by the tongue speech easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye will be speaking into the air.10 There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and no kind is without signification.11 If then I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be to him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh will be a barbarian unto me.12 So also ye, since ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may abound unto the edifying of the church.13 Wherefore let him that speaketh in a tongue pray that he may interpret.14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.16 Else if thou bless with the spirit, how shall he that filleth the place of the unlearned say the Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he knoweth not what thou sayest?17 For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified.18 I thank God, I speak with tongues more than you all:19 howbeit in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that I might instruct others also, than ten thousand words in a tongue.20 Brethren, be not children in mind: yet in malice be ye babes, but in mind be men.21 In the law it is written, By men of strange tongues and by the lips of strangers will I speak unto this people; and not even thus will they hear me, saith the Lord.22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to the unbelieving: but prophesying is for a sign, not to the unbelieving, but to them that believe.23 If therefore the whole church be assembled together and all speak with tongues, and there come in men unlearned or unbelieving, will they not say that ye are mad?24 But if all prophesy, and there come in one unbelieving or unlearned, he is reproved by all, he is judged by all;25 the secrets of his heart are made manifest; and so he will fall down on his face and worship God, declaring that God is among you indeed.26 What is it then, brethren? When ye come together, each one hath a psalm, hath a teaching, hath a revelation, hath a tongue, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.27 If any man speaketh in a tongue, let it be by two, or at the most three, and that in turn; and let one interpret:28 but if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.29 And let the prophets speak by two or three, and let the others discern.30 But if a revelation be made to another sitting by, let the first keep silence.31 For ye all can prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be exhorted;32 and the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets;33 for God is not a God of confusion, but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints,34 let the women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but let them be in subjection, as also saith the law.35 And if they would learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home: for it is shameful for a woman to speak in the church.36 What? was it from you that the word of God went forth? or came it unto you alone?37 If any man thinketh himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him take knowledge of the things which I write unto you, that they are the commandment of the Lord.38 But if any man is ignorant, let him be ignorant.39 Wherefore, my brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.40 But let all things be done decently and in order.
