Fortalezcan a los demás

1 Fomenten este amor y anhelen los dones espirituales, pero sobre todo el don de profetizar.2 Porque el que habla en lenguas, en realidad no habla con los demás, sino con Dios. Nadie entiende lo que dice pues habla secretos por medio del Espíritu.3 Pero el que profetiza, habla a los demás para darles fuerzas, ánimo y consuelo.4 El que habla en lenguas se fortalece a sí mismo, pero el que profetiza fortalece a toda la iglesiat.

5 Me gustaría que todos ustedes pudieran hablar en lenguas, pero me gustaría más que todos pudieran profetizar. Porque el que profetiza es más importante que el que habla en lenguas, a menos que alguien interprete pues de esa manera sí puede fortalecer a la iglesia.
6 Entonces, hermanos ¿en qué les ayudo si les hablo en lenguas? Sólo les sirvo de ayuda si les hablo por medio del don de revelación, de conocimiento, de profecía o de enseñanza.7 Lo mismo sucede con los objetos que suenan, por ejemplo la flauta o el arpa. Si los sonidos no son claros, nadie puede saber cuál es la melodía que se está tocando.8 Y si la trompeta de guerra no suena bien, nadie va a alistarse para combatir.9 Así sucede con ustedes, si hablan con palabras que no se pueden entender, nadie va a saber lo que dijeron. Será como hablarle al viento.10 Es cierto que hay muchos idiomas en el mundo y todos tienen significado.11 Pero si yo no entiendo lo que alguien me dice, seré como un extranjero para él, y el que habla será como un extranjero para mí.

12 Sucede lo mismo con ustedes. Ya que ustedes tienen afán por manifestaciones espirituales, busquen las que más fortalecen a la iglesia.
13 Así que, el que habla en lenguas, debe orar para que también pueda interpretar lo que dice.14 Pues si yo oro en lenguas, mi espíritu ora pero mi mente no entiende nada.15 Entonces, ¿qué puedo hacer? Oraré no sólo con el espíritu, sino también con el entendimiento, y cantaré no sólo con el espíritu sino también con el entendimiento.16 Porque si alabas a Dios sólo con el espíritu, ¿qué harán los que no entienden? Cuando des gracias no podrán decir «Así sea»t porque no entienden lo que dices.

17 Puedes agradecer muy bien, pero eso no fortalece a los demás.
18 Doy gracias a Dios porque hablo en lenguas más que cualquiera de ustedes.

19 Pero en las reuniones de la iglesia prefiero decir cinco palabras que se entiendan y que instruyan a los demás, que diez mil palabras en un idioma que nadie sabe.
20 Hermanos, no piensen como niños. Sin embargo, en cuanto a la maldad sean inocentes como bebés; y en su modo de pensar sean adultos maduros.

21 Así dice en las Escriturast:«Por la gente que habla un idioma diferentey por los labios de los extranjerosle hablaré a este pueblo,pero ni aun así me harán caso»,t
dice el Señor.
22 Por eso, vemos que el uso de diferentes lenguas muestra cómo es que Dios trata con los que no creen, no con los que creen. Y la profecía, en cambio, muestra cómo es que Dios obra por medio de los que creen, no de los que no creen.23 Supongan que toda la iglesia está reunida y todos hablan en lenguas. Si entran los que no entienden o los que no creen, ¿no dirían que todos ustedes están locos?24 Pero supongan que todos profetizan. Si entra alguien que no cree o que no entiende y oye lo que están diciendo, va a darse cuenta de sus pecados y será juzgado por lo que ustedes dicen.25 Los secretos de su corazón quedarán al descubierto y se postrará rostro en tierra para alabar a Dios, diciendo: «¡En verdad Dios está entre ustedes!»t

Reuniones que fortalecen a la iglesia

26 Entonces, hermanos, cuando se reúnan, uno presente un salmo, otro una enseñanza, otro una revelación. Otro hable en lenguas y otro interprete. Todo debe hacerse para fortalecer a la iglesiat.27 Si algunos de ustedes hablan en lenguas, que sólo hablen dos o tres cuando mucho, cada uno por turno y con un interprete.

28 Si no hay alguien que interprete, que el que hable en lenguas guarde silencio y que hable consigo mismo y con Dios.
29 Cuando tomen la palabra los profetas, que hablen dos o tres, y que los demás examinen lo que digan.30 Si en ese momento alguien que esté allí sentado recibe un mensaje de Dios, el primero debe dejar de hablar.31 Todos pueden hablar si lo hacen uno por uno para que todos aprendan y estén animados.32 La inspiración de los profetas para hablar está bajo el control de ellos mismos,

33 porque Dios no es un Dios de confusión, sino de paz como en todas las iglesias del pueblo de Dios.
34 Las mujeres deben guardar silencio durante las reuniones, porque no les está permitido hablar. Deben estar sumisas, como dice la ley.35 Si una mujer quiere cuestionar algo o saber algo, le puede preguntar después a su esposo cuando estén en la casa. Es motivo de vergüenza que una mujer tome la palabra en las reuniones de la iglesia.

36 Acuérdense que el mensaje de Dios no comenzó con ustedes y tampoco ustedes son los únicos que lo han recibido.
37 Si alguien cree que es profeta o que tiene un don espiritual, tiene que reconocer que todo esto que les escribo es una orden del Señor.

38 Pero si no lo aceptas, no serás aceptado.
39 En conclusión, hermanos, anhelen profetizar, y no le prohíban a nadie hablar en lenguas.

40 Que todo lo que hagan sea siempre de forma apropiada y ordenada.

Prophecy a Superior Gift

1 Pursue love, yet desire earnestly spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.2 For one who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God; for no one understands, but in his spirit he speaks mysteries.3 But one who prophesies speaks to men for edification and exhortation and consolation.4 One who speaks in a tongue edifies himself; but one who prophesies edifies the church.5 Now I wish that you all spoke in tongues, but even more that you would prophesy; and greater is one who prophesies than one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets, so that the church may receive edifying.

6 But now, brethren, if I come to you speaking in tongues, what will I profit you unless I speak to you either by way of revelation or of knowledge or of prophecy or of teaching?7 Yet even lifeless things, either flute or harp, in producing a sound, if they do not produce a distinction in the tones, how will it be known what is played on the flute or on the harp?8 For if the bugle produces an indistinct sound, who will prepare himself for battle?9 So also you, unless you utter by the tongue speech that is clear, how will it be known what is spoken? For you will be speaking into the air.10 There are, perhaps, a great many kinds of languages in the world, and no kind is without meaning.11 If then I do not know the meaning of the language, I will be to the one who speaks a barbarian, and the one who speaks will be a barbarian to me.12 So also you, since you are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek to abound for the edification of the church.

13 Therefore let one who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret.14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful.15 What is the outcome then? I will pray with the spirit and I will pray with the mind also; I will sing with the spirit and I will sing with the mind also.16 Otherwise if you bless in the spirit only, how will the one who fills the place of the ungifted say the "Amen" at your giving of thanks, since he does not know what you are saying?17 For you are giving thanks well enough, but the other person is not edified.18 I thank God, I speak in tongues more than you all;19 however, in the church I desire to speak five words with my mind so that I may instruct others also, rather than ten thousand words in a tongue.

Instruction for the Church

20 Brethren, do not be children in your thinking; yet in evil be infants, but in your thinking be mature.21 In the Law it is written, "BY MEN OF STRANGE TONGUES AND BY THE LIPS OF STRANGERS I WILL SPEAK TO THIS PEOPLE, AND EVEN SO THEY WILL NOT LISTEN TO ME," says the Lord.22 So then tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe but to unbelievers; but prophecy is for a sign, not to unbelievers but to those who believe.23 Therefore if the whole church assembles together and all speak in tongues, and ungifted men or unbelievers enter, will they not say that you are mad?24 But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or an ungifted man enters, he is convicted by all, he is called to account by all;25 the secrets of his heart are disclosed; and so he will fall on his face and worship God, declaring that God is certainly among you.

26 What is the outcome then, brethren? When you assemble, each one has a psalm, has a teaching, has a revelation, has a tongue, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification.27 If anyone speaks in a tongue, it should be by two or at the most three, and each in turn, and one must interpret;28 but if there is no interpreter, he must keep silent in the church; and let him speak to himself and to God.29 Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others pass judgment.30 But if a revelation is made to another who is seated, the first one must keep silent.31 For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all may be exhorted;32 and the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets;33 for God is not a God of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.

34 The women are to keep silent in the churches; for they are not permitted to speak, but are to subject themselves, just as the Law also says.35 If they desire to learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is improper for a woman to speak in church.36 Was it from you that the word of God first went forth? Or has it come to you only?

37 If anyone thinks he is a prophet or spiritual, let him recognize that the things which I write to you are the Lord's commandment.38 But if anyone does not recognize this, he tis not recognized.

39 Therefore, my brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak in tongues.40 But all things must be done properly and in an orderly manner.
