La resurrección de Cristo

1 Ahora, hermanos, quiero que se acuerden del evangelio que les he predicado. Éste es el evangelio que ustedes aceptaron, y en el cual están firmes.2 También por medio de este evangelio se salvarán, si se mantienen firmes en él, tal como yo se lo anuncié; de lo contrario, habrán creído en vano.3 En primer lugar les he enseñado la misma tradición que yo recibí, a saber, que Cristo murió por nuestros pecados, según las Escrituras;4 que lo sepultaron y que resucitó al tercer día, también según las Escrituras;5 y que se apareció a Cefas, y luego a los doce.6 Después se apareció a más de quinientos hermanos a la vez, la mayoría de los cuales vive todavía, aunque algunos ya han muerto.7 Después se apareció a Santiago, y luego a todos los apóstoles.8 Por último se me apareció también a mí, que soy como un niño nacido anormalmente.9 Pues yo soy el menos importante de los apóstoles, y ni siquiera merezco llamarme apóstol, porque perseguí a la iglesia de Dios.10 Pero soy lo que soy porque Dios fue bueno conmigo; y su bondad para conmigo no ha resultado en vano. Al contrario, he trabajado más que todos ellos; aunque no he sido yo, sino Dios, que en su bondad me ha ayudado.11 Lo que importa es que, tanto yo como ellos, esto es lo que hemos predicado, y esto es lo que ustedes han creído.

La resurrección de los demás

12 Pero si nuestro mensaje es que Cristo resucitó, ¿por qué dicen algunos de ustedes que los muertos no resucitan?13 Porque si los muertos no resucitan, entonces tampoco Cristo resucitó;14 y si Cristo no resucitó, el mensaje que predicamos no vale para nada, ni tampoco vale para nada la fe que ustedes tienen.15 Si esto fuera así, nosotros resultaríamos ser testigos falsos de Dios, puesto que estaríamos afirmando en contra de Dios que él resucitó a Cristo, cuando en realidad no lo habría resucitado si fuera verdad que los muertos no resucitan.16 Porque si los muertos no resucitan, entonces tampoco Cristo resucitó;17 y si Cristo no resucitó, la fe de ustedes no vale para nada: todavía siguen en sus pecados.18 En este caso, también están perdidos los que murieron creyendo en Cristo.19 Si nuestra esperanza en Cristo solamente vale para esta vida, somos los más desdichados de todos.20 Pero lo cierto es que Cristo ha resucitado. Él es el primer fruto de la cosecha: ha sido el primero en resucitar.21 Así como por causa de un hombre vino la muerte, también por causa de un hombre viene la resurrección de los muertos.22 Y así como en Adán todos mueren, así también en Cristo todos tendrán vida.23 Pero cada uno en el orden que le corresponda: Cristo en primer lugar; después, cuando Cristo vuelva, los que son suyos.24 Entonces vendrá el fin, cuando Cristo derrote a todos los señoríos, autoridades y poderes, y entregue el reino al Dios y Padre.25 Porque Cristo tiene que reinar hasta que todos sus enemigos estén puestos debajo de sus pies;26 y el último enemigo que será derrotado es la muerte.27 Porque Dios lo ha sometido todo bajo los pies de Cristo. Pero cuando dice que todo le ha quedado sometido, es claro que esto no incluye a Dios mismo, ya que es él quien le sometió todas las cosas.28 Y cuando todo haya quedado sometido a Cristo, entonces Cristo mismo, que es el Hijo, se someterá a Dios, que es quien sometió a él todas las cosas. Así, Dios será todo en todo.29 De otra manera, los que se bautizan por los muertos, ¿para qué lo harían? Si los muertos no resucitan, ¿para qué bautizarse por ellos?30 ¿Y por qué estamos nosotros en peligro a todas horas?31 Porque, hermanos, todos los días estoy en peligro de muerte. Esto es tan cierto como la satisfacción que siento por ustedes en Cristo Jesús nuestro Señor.32 Si yo, al luchar con las fieras en Éfeso, lo hubiera hecho por razones humanas, ¿qué habría ganado con eso? Si es verdad que los muertos no resucitan, entonces, como algunos dicen: «¡Comamos y bebamos, que mañana moriremos!»33 No se dejen engañar. Como alguien dijo: «Los malos compañeros echan a perder las buenas costumbres.»34 Vuelvan verdaderamente al buen juicio, y no pequen, pues algunos de ustedes no conocen a Dios. Digo esto para que se avergüencen.

Cómo resucitarán los muertos

35 Tal vez alguno preguntará: «¿Cómo resucitarán los muertos? ¿Qué clase de cuerpo tendrán?»36 ¡Vaya pregunta tonta! Cuando se siembra, la semilla tiene que morir para que tome vida la planta.37 Lo que se siembra no es la planta que ha de brotar, sino el simple grano, sea de trigo o de otra cosa.38 Después Dios le da la forma que él quiere, y a cada semilla le da el cuerpo que le corresponde.39 No todos los cuerpos son iguales; uno es el cuerpo del hombre, otro el de los animales, otro el de las aves y otro el de los peces.40 Del mismo modo, hay cuerpos celestes y cuerpos terrestres; pero una es la hermosura de los cuerpos celestes y otra la hermosura de los cuerpos terrestres.41 El brillo del sol es diferente del brillo de la luna y del brillo de las estrellas; y aun entre las estrellas, el brillo de una es diferente del de otra.42 Lo mismo pasa con la resurrección de los muertos. Lo que se entierra es corruptible; lo que resucita es incorruptible.43 Lo que se entierra es despreciable; lo que resucita es glorioso. Lo que se entierra es débil; lo que resucita es fuerte.44 Lo que se entierra es un cuerpo material; lo que resucita es un cuerpo espiritual. Si hay cuerpo material, también hay cuerpo espiritual.45 Así dice la Escritura: «El primer hombre, Adán, se convirtió en un ser viviente»; pero el último Adán se convirtió en espíritu que da vida.46 Sin embargo, lo espiritual no es primero, sino lo material; después lo espiritual.47 El primer hombre, hecho de tierra, era de la tierra; el segundo hombre es del cielo.48 Los cuerpos de la tierra son como aquel hombre hecho de tierra; y los del cielo son como aquel que es del cielo.49 Así como nos parecemos al hombre hecho de tierra, así también nos pareceremos a aquel que es del cielo.50 Quiero decirles, hermanos, que lo puramente material no puede tener parte en el reino de Dios, y que lo corruptible no puede tener parte en lo incorruptible.51 Pero quiero que conozcan el designio secreto de Dios: No todos moriremos, pero todos seremos transformados52 en un momento, en un abrir y cerrar de ojos, cuando suene el último toque de trompeta. Porque sonará la trompeta, y los muertos serán resucitados para no volver a morir. Y nosotros seremos transformados.53 Pues nuestra naturaleza corruptible se revestirá de lo incorruptible, y nuestro cuerpo mortal se revestirá de inmortalidad.54 Y cuando nuestra naturaleza corruptible se haya revestido de lo incorruptible, y cuando nuestro cuerpo mortal se haya revestido de inmortalidad, se cumplirá lo que dice la Escritura: «La muerte ha sido devorada por la victoria.55 ¿Dónde está, oh muerte, tu victoria? ¿Dónde está, oh muerte, tu aguijón?»56 El aguijón de la muerte es el pecado, y el pecado ejerce su poder por la ley.57 ¡Pero gracias a Dios, que nos da la victoria por medio de nuestro Señor Jesucristo!58 Por lo tanto, mis queridos hermanos, sigan firmes y constantes, trabajando siempre más y más en la obra del Señor; porque ustedes saben que no es en vano el trabajo que hacen en unión con el Señor.

1 Now I make known unto you brethren, the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye received, wherein also ye stand,2 by which also ye are saved, if ye hold fast the word which I preached unto you, except ye believed in vain.3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which also I received: that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;4 and that he was buried; and that he hath been raised on the third day according to the scriptures;5 and that he appeared to Cephas; then to the twelve;6 then he appeared to above five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain until now, but some are fallen asleep;7 then he appeared to James; then to all the apostles;8 and last of all, as to the child untimely born, he appeared to me also.9 For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.10 But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not found vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.11 Whether then it be I or they, so we preach, and so ye believed.12 Now if Christ is preached that he hath been raised from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, neither hath Christ been raised:14 and if Christ hath not been raised, then is our preaching vain, your faith also is vain.15 Yea, we are found false witnesses of God; because we witnessed of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead are not raised.16 For if the dead are not raised, neither hath Christ been raised:17 and if Christ hath not been raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.18 Then they also that are fallen asleep in Christ have perished.19 If we have only hoped in Christ in this life, we are of all men most pitiable.20 But now hath Christ been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of them that are asleep.21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.23 But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; then they that are Christ’s, at his coming.24 Then cometh the end, when he shall deliver up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have abolished all rule and all authority and power.25 For he must reign, till he hath put all his enemies under his feet.26 The last enemy that shall be abolished is death.27 For, He put all things in subjection under his feet. But when he saith, All things are put in subjection, it is evident that he is excepted who did subject all things unto him.28 And when all things have been subjected unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subjected to him that did subject all things unto him, that God may be all in all.29 Else what shall they do that are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why then are they baptized for them?30 Why do we also stand in jeopardy every hour?31 I protest by that glorifying in you, brethren, which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.32 If after the manner of men I fought with beasts at Ephesus, what doth it profit me? If the dead are not raised, let us eat and drink, for to-morrow we die.33 Be not deceived: Evil companionships corrupt good morals.34 Awake to soberness righteously, and sin not; for some have no knowledge of God: I speak this to move you to shame.35 But some one will say, How are the dead raised? and with what manner of body do they come?36 Thou foolish one, that which thou thyself sowest is not quickened except it die:37 and that which thou sowest, thou sowest not the body that shall be, but a bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other kind;38 but God giveth it a body even as it pleased him, and to each seed a body of its own.39 All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one flesh of men, and another flesh of beasts, and another flesh of birds, and another of fishes.40 There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.41 There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for one star differeth from another star in glory.42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:43 it is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power:44 it is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.45 So also it is written, The first man Adam became a living soul. The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.46 Howbeit that is not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; then that which is spiritual.47 The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is of heaven.48 As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.49 And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.51 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We all shall not sleep, but we shall all be changed,52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.54 But when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.55 O death, where is thy victory? O death, where is thy sting?56 The sting of death is sin; and the power of sin is the law:57 but thanks be to God, who giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.58 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not vain in the Lord.
