Il cuore del Vangelo.

1 Fratelli, io vi ricordo il Vangelo che vi ho annunciato, lo stesso che avete accettato e sul quale fondate la vostra fede.2 È per mezzo di questo Vangelo che siete salvati, se ancora lo conservate come io ve l’ho annunciato, a meno che non vi abbiate mai creduto fin da principio.3 Prima di tutto, vi ho comunicato quello che mi è stato detto, e cioè che Cristo morì per i nostri peccati, proprio come dissero le Scritture,4 che fu sepolto e che tre giorni dopo resuscitò come predissero i profeti.5 Gesù apparve a Pietro e più tardi agli apostoli.6 Poi, apparve a più di cinquecento fratelli cristiani in una sola volta la maggior parte dei quali vive ancora, mentre alcuni sono già morti.7 In seguito apparve a Giacomo. E più tardi a tutti gli apostoli.8 Ultimo fra tutti, apparve anche a me, benché tra gli apostoli io sia come un aborto.9 Infatti, io sono il meno importante di tutti gli apostoli, anzi, non dovrei nemmeno essere chiamato apostolo, visto che ho perseguitato la Chiesa di Dio!10 Ma, per grazia di Dio, io sono quello che sono. E la grazia che Dio mi ha dato non è stata inutile, perché ho lavorato di più di tutti gli altri apostoli, anche se non sono stato io a lavorare, ma Dio che agiva in me con la sua grazia.11 Comunque, non fa differenza chi ha lavorato di più, se io o loro; la cosa più importante è che abbiamo predicato il Vangelo a voi, e voi avete creduto.12 Ma ditemi un po’, visto che credete a ciò che predico, e cioè che Cristo è risorto dai morti, come mai alcuni di voi dicono che i morti non possono resuscitare?13 In questo caso, neppure Cristo è resuscitato!14 E se Cristo non è resuscitato, tutto ciò che predichiamo è inutile e la vostra fede in Dio non serve a niente.15 Per di più, noi apostoli saremmo tutti dei bugiardi, perché abbiamo detto che Dio ha resuscitato Cristo:16 il che non può essere, se è vero che i morti non resuscitano.17 In tal caso, allora, Cristo è ancora morto, la vostra fede è inutile e su di voi pende ancora la condanna per i vostri peccati.18 Non solo, anche tutti i cristiani che sono morti sono perduti.19 Se essere cristiani ha valore per noi soltanto in questa vita, allora noi siamo i più miserabili di tutti gli uomini!20 Ma il fatto è che Cristo è davvero resuscitato dai morti, ed è diventato il primo di tutti quelli che un giorno resusciteranno.21 La morte è venuta nel mondo per mezzo di un uomo (Adamo), ed è per mezzo di un altro uomo (Cristo) che ora c’è la resurrezione dei morti.22 Come tutti gli uomini muoiono, perché discendono da Adamo, così tutti quelli che appartengono a Cristo saranno resuscitati.23 Tuttavia, ciascuno al suo turno: Cristo resuscitò per primo, poi, al suo ritorno, resusciteranno tutte le persone che gli appartengono.24 Poi Cristo consegnerà il suo regno a Dio Padre, dopo aver abolito ogni dominio, autorità e potenza; allora sarà la fine.25 Perciò bisogna che Cristo regni: « finché non si sia messo sotto i piedi tutti i nemici ».26 L’ultimo nemico ad essere distrutto sarà la morte.27 Infatti, Dio ha dato a Cristo l’autorità su tutte le cose, eccetto, naturalmente, su Dio stesso, che gli ha dato questo potere di regnare.28 Quando Cristo avrà finalmente vinto tutti i suoi nemici, allora anche lui, il Figlio di Dio, si sottometterà agli ordini del proprio Padre, affinché Dio, che gli ha dato la vittoria completa, sia tutto in tutti.29 Se i morti non resuscitano, a che serve, allora, il battesimo di quelli che si fanno battezzare per i morti? Perché lo fate, se non credete che un giorno i morti resusciteranno?30 E perché noi stessi dobbiamo rischiare continuamente la vita e affrontare ogni momento la morte?31 Proprio così, ogni giorno io affronto la morte. Ciò che vi dico, fratelli, è vero quanto è vero che sono orgoglioso del fatto che credete nel Signore Gesù.32 E a che cosa servirebbe lottare contro le bestie feroci, parlo di quegli uomini di Efeso, se tutto il guadagno fosse soltanto in questa vita terrena? Se non vivremo mai più dopo la morte, allora, prendiamocela comoda: mangiamo, beviamo e divertiamoci, tanto domani morremo, e tutto finirà!33 Non fatevi ingannare: «Le cattive compagnie corrompono i buoni costumi».34 Ritornate in voi come conviene e smettete di peccare. Alcuni infatti dimostrano di non conoscere Dio; lo dico per farvi vergognare!

Il nostro corpo immortale.

35 Qualcuno si chiederà: « Come fanno a resuscitare i morti? E che corpo avranno? »36 Che domande stupide! La risposta è semplice, e la troverete osservando un campo. Quando si semina un seme nel terreno, quel seme non diventa pianta, se prima non muore.37 E quando il germoglio spunta è ben diverso dal seme che avete piantato, un piccolo seme secco di grano o di qualche altra specie.38 Poi Dio gli dà un nuovo aspetto, come meglio gli pare; e ad ogni tipo di seme corrisponderà una pianta diversa.39 Come nel regno vegetale ci sono tanti tipi diversi, così è per il regno animale: l’aspetto degli uomini, ben diverso da quello degli animali, è di un certo tipo; altra cosa ancora è l’aspetto degli uccelli; ancora differente quello dei pesci.40 Inoltre ci sono anche i corpi celesti e i corpi terrestri: ognuno ha il proprio splendore, diverso l’uno dall’altro.41 Il sole ha un suo tipico splendore, mentre lo splendore della luna e delle stelle è di un altro genere; ed ogni stella è diversa dall’altra per bellezza e luminosità.42 Così, questo nostro corpo, che è seminato e va in decomposizione, è diverso dal corpo che avremo quando resusciteremo. Quello sarà un corpo particolare, che non morirà mai più.43 Il corpo che abbiamo adesso è seminato misero e debole, ma quando resusciterà, sarà pieno di gloria e potenza.44 E’ solo un corpo umano quando è messo nella terra, ma quando resusciterà, sarà un corpo spirituale.45 Le Scritture ci dicono che il primo uomo, Adamo, divenne un essere vivente, ma Cristo, l’ultimo Adamo, è molto di più, perché lui stesso è Spirito che dà la vita.46 Adesso noi abbiamo questo corpo umano, poi Dio ci darà un corpo spirituale.47 Il primo uomo, Adamo, è stato fatto con la polvere della terra, ma Cristo è sceso dal cielo.48 Poiché siamo esseri umani di questa terra, abbiamo un corpo come quello di Adamo, fatto di terra, ma tutti quelli che diventano di Cristo e appartengono al cielo, avranno un corpo come il suo, un corpo celeste.49 Proprio così, come ognuno di noi ha un corpo uguale a quello di Adamo, così un giorno avrà un corpo uguale a quello di Cristo.50 Vi dico questo, fratelli miei: un corpo fatto di carne e sangue non può entrare nel Regno di Dio. Questo nostro corpo che deve morire non può diventare immortale.51 Voglio rivelarvi questo meraviglioso segreto: non tutti noi moriremo, ma tutti saremo trasformati,52 in un istante, in un batter d’occhio, al suono dell’ultima tromba. Perché, quando la tromba suonerà, tutti i cristiani morti risorgeranno con corpi incorruttibili, che non moriranno mai più: ed anche noi vivi saremo trasformati.53 Infatti, bisogna che questo corpo che va in decomposizione si rivesta di vita che non si corrompe; bisogna che questo corpo mortale diventi immortale.54 Quando questo accadrà, allora si avvererà ciò che dicono le Scritture: « La morte è distrutta! La vittoria è completa! »55-56 « O morte, dov’è la tua vittoria? Dov’è il tuo pugnale? » Perché il pugnale della morte è il peccato e il potere del peccato è la legge.57 Quanto dobbiamo ringraziare Dio per tutto questo! È lui che ci dà la vittoria per mezzo di Gesù Cristo, nostro Signore.58 Perciò, miei cari fratelli, restate ben saldi, incrollabili, e impegnati sempre più per il lavoro del Signore, perché voi sapete che niente di ciò che fate per il Signore andrà mai perduto.

1 Now I make known unto you brethren, the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye received, wherein also ye stand,2 by which also ye are saved, if ye hold fast the word which I preached unto you, except ye believed in vain.3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which also I received: that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;4 and that he was buried; and that he hath been raised on the third day according to the scriptures;5 and that he appeared to Cephas; then to the twelve;6 then he appeared to above five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain until now, but some are fallen asleep;7 then he appeared to James; then to all the apostles;8 and last of all, as to the child untimely born, he appeared to me also.9 For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.10 But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not found vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.11 Whether then it be I or they, so we preach, and so ye believed.12 Now if Christ is preached that he hath been raised from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, neither hath Christ been raised:14 and if Christ hath not been raised, then is our preaching vain, your faith also is vain.15 Yea, we are found false witnesses of God; because we witnessed of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead are not raised.16 For if the dead are not raised, neither hath Christ been raised:17 and if Christ hath not been raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.18 Then they also that are fallen asleep in Christ have perished.19 If we have only hoped in Christ in this life, we are of all men most pitiable.20 But now hath Christ been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of them that are asleep.21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.23 But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; then they that are Christ’s, at his coming.24 Then cometh the end, when he shall deliver up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have abolished all rule and all authority and power.25 For he must reign, till he hath put all his enemies under his feet.26 The last enemy that shall be abolished is death.27 For, He put all things in subjection under his feet. But when he saith, All things are put in subjection, it is evident that he is excepted who did subject all things unto him.28 And when all things have been subjected unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subjected to him that did subject all things unto him, that God may be all in all.29 Else what shall they do that are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why then are they baptized for them?30 Why do we also stand in jeopardy every hour?31 I protest by that glorifying in you, brethren, which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.32 If after the manner of men I fought with beasts at Ephesus, what doth it profit me? If the dead are not raised, let us eat and drink, for to-morrow we die.33 Be not deceived: Evil companionships corrupt good morals.34 Awake to soberness righteously, and sin not; for some have no knowledge of God: I speak this to move you to shame.35 But some one will say, How are the dead raised? and with what manner of body do they come?36 Thou foolish one, that which thou thyself sowest is not quickened except it die:37 and that which thou sowest, thou sowest not the body that shall be, but a bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other kind;38 but God giveth it a body even as it pleased him, and to each seed a body of its own.39 All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one flesh of men, and another flesh of beasts, and another flesh of birds, and another of fishes.40 There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.41 There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for one star differeth from another star in glory.42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:43 it is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power:44 it is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.45 So also it is written, The first man Adam became a living soul. The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.46 Howbeit that is not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; then that which is spiritual.47 The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is of heaven.48 As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.49 And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.51 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We all shall not sleep, but we shall all be changed,52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.54 But when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.55 O death, where is thy victory? O death, where is thy sting?56 The sting of death is sin; and the power of sin is the law:57 but thanks be to God, who giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.58 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not vain in the Lord.
