El trabajo de los apóstoles

1 Ustedes deben considerarnos simplemente como ayudantes de Cristo, encargados de enseñar los designios secretos de Dios.2 Ahora bien, el que recibe un encargo debe demostrar que es digno de confianza.3 En cuanto a mí respecta, muy poco me preocupa ser juzgado por ustedes o por algún tribunal humano. Ni siquiera yo mismo me juzgo.4 Sin embargo, el que mi conciencia no me acuse de nada no significa que yo por esto sea inocente. Pues el que me juzga es el Señor.5 Por lo tanto, no juzguen ustedes nada antes de tiempo; esperen a que el Señor venga y saque a la luz lo que ahora está en la oscuridad y dé a conocer las intenciones del corazón. Entonces Dios dará a cada uno la alabanza que merezca.6 Hermanos, les hablo de estas cosas por su propio bien y poniendo como ejemplo a Apolo y a mí mismo. Lo digo para que por nuestro ejemplo aprendan ustedes a no ir más allá de lo que está escrito, y para que nadie se hinche de orgullo, favoreciendo a uno en perjuicio de otro.7 Pues, ¿quién te da privilegios sobre los demás? ¿Y qué tienes que Dios no te haya dado? Y si él te lo ha dado, ¿por qué presumes, como si lo hubieras conseguido por ti mismo?8 Al parecer, ustedes ya son ricos, y tienen todo lo que pueden desear, y se sienten como reyes que nada necesitan de nosotros. ¡Ojalá fueran reyes de verdad, para que nosotros tuviéramos parte en su reino!9 Pues me parece que a nosotros, los apóstoles, Dios nos ha puesto en el último lugar, como si fuéramos condenados a muerte. Hemos llegado a ser un espectáculo para el mundo, para los ángeles y para los hombres.10 Nosotros, por causa de Cristo, pasamos por tontos; mientras que ustedes, gracias a Cristo, pasan por inteligentes. Nosotros somos débiles, mientras que ustedes son fuertes. A nosotros se nos desprecia, y a ustedes se les respeta.11 Hasta hoy mismo no hemos dejado de sufrir hambre, sed y falta de ropa; la gente nos maltrata, no tenemos hogar propio12 y nos cansamos trabajando con nuestras propias manos. A las maldiciones respondemos con bendiciones; somos perseguidos, y lo soportamos.13 Nos injurian, y contestamos con bondad. Nos tratan como a basura del mundo, como a desperdicio de la humanidad. Y así hasta el día de hoy.14 No les escribo esto para avergonzarlos, sino para darles un consejo, como a mis propios hijos, pues los amo.15 Pues aunque ustedes, como cristianos, tengan diez mil instructores, padres no tienen muchos. Padre de ustedes soy yo, pues les anuncié el evangelio por el cual quedaron incorporados a Cristo Jesús.16 Así pues, les ruego que sigan mi ejemplo.17 Por esto les envié a Timoteo, mi querido y fiel hijo en el Señor. Él los hará recordar mi conducta como creyente en Cristo Jesús, conforme a lo que enseño en todas las iglesias por donde paso.18 Algunos de ustedes ya se sienten muy confiados pensando que no iré a verlos;19 pero, si el Señor quiere, espero visitarlos pronto. Entonces veré lo que son capaces de hacer esos que se hinchan de orgullo, y no solamente lo que son capaces de decir.20 Porque el reino de Dios no es cuestión de palabras, sino de poder.21 ¿Qué prefieren ustedes: que vaya dispuesto a castigarlos, o que vaya a verlos con amor y ternura?

1 Corinthians 4

1 Let a man so account of us, as of ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.2 Here, moreover, it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.3 But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you, or of man’s judgment: yea, I judge not mine own self.4 For I know nothing against myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord.5 Wherefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and make manifest the counsels of the hearts; and then shall each man have his praise from God.6 Now these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and Apollos for your sakes; that in us ye might learn not to go beyond the things which are written; that no one of you be puffed up for the one against the other.7 For who maketh thee to differ? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? but if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory as if thou hadst not received it?8 Already are ye filled, already ye are become rich, ye have come to reign without us: yea and I would that ye did reign, that we also might reign with you.9 For, I think, God hath set forth us the apostles last of all, as men doomed to death: for we are made a spectacle unto the world, both to angels and men.10 We are fools for Christ’s sake, but ye are wise in Christ; we are weak, but ye are strong; ye have glory, but we have dishonor.11 Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwelling-place;12 and we toil, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we endure;13 being defamed, we entreat: we are made as the filth of the world, the offscouring of all things, even until now.14 I write not these things to shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved children.15 For though ye have ten thousand tutors in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I begat you through the gospel.16 I beseech you therefore, be ye imitators of me.17 For this cause have I sent unto you Timothy, who is my beloved and faithful child in the Lord, who shall put you in remembrance of my ways which are in Christ, even as I teach everywhere in every church.18 Now some are puffed up, as though I were not coming to you.19 But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord will; and I will know, not the word of them that are puffed up, but the power.20 For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.21 What will ye? shall I come unto you with a rod, or in love and a spirit of gentleness?
