Le Seigneur, seul juge
1 tAinsi, qu’on nous considère comme des serviteurs du Christ et des intendants des mystères de Dieu. 2 tDu reste, ce qu’on demande d’un intendant, c’est qu’il soit digne de confiance. 3 tQuant à moi, il m’importe fort peu d’être jugé par vous ou par une juridiction humaine. Je ne me juge pas non plus moi-même ; 4 tcar je n’ai rien sur la conscience, mais je n’en suis pas justifié pour autant : celui qui me juge, c’est le Seigneur.
5 tNe portez donc aucun jugement avant le temps fixé, avant la venue du Seigneur qui mettra en lumière les secrets des ténèbres et qui rendra manifestes les décisions des cœurs. Alors chacun recevra de Dieu sa louange.Ce que les apôtres doivent endurer
6 tMes frères, c’est à cause de vous que j’ai usé de ces images à propos de moi-même et d’Apollos. Vous apprendrez ainsi, à notre exemple, à ne pas aller au-delà de ce qui est écrit, afin qu’aucun de vous ne se gonfle d’orgueil en prenant parti pour l’un contre l’autre. 7 tEn effet, qui est-ce qui te distingue ? Qu’as-tu que tu n’aies reçu ? Et si tu l’as reçu, pourquoi fais-tu le fier, comme si tu ne l’avais pas reçu ? 8 tDéjà vous êtes rassasiés, déjà vous êtes riches, vous avez commencé à régner sans nous ! Si seulement vous régniez vraiment ! Alors nous aussi nous régnerions avec vous ! 9 tCar Dieu, il me semble, nous a exhibés, nous, les apôtres, à la dernière place, comme des condamnés à mort : nous avons été offerts en spectacle au monde, aux anges et aux humains. 10 tNous, nous sommes fous à cause du Christ, mais vous, vous êtes avisés dans le Christ ; nous, nous sommes faibles, mais vous, vous êtes forts. Vous, vous êtes glorieux, mais nous, nous sommes déshonorés ! 11 tJusqu’à l’heure présente, nous sommes exposés à la faim, à la soif, au dénuement, aux coups, à une vie errante ; 12 tnous nous donnons de la peine en travaillant de nos propres mains ; insultés, nous bénissons ; persécutés, nous supportons ;
13 tdiffamés, nous encourageons ; nous sommes devenus les déchets du monde, le rebut de tous, jusqu’à maintenant.Le souci paternel de Paul
14 tCe n’est pas pour vous faire honte que j’écris cela ; mais je vous avertis comme mes enfants bien-aimés.
15 tEn effet, quand vous auriez dix mille surveillants dans le Christ, vous n’avez pas plusieurs pères : c’est moi qui vous ai engendrés en Jésus-Christ par la bonne nouvelle.
16 tJe vous y encourage donc, imitez-moi.
17 tA cet effet, je vous ai envoyé Timothée, qui, dans le Seigneur, est mon enfant bien-aimé et digne de confiance ; il vous rappellera mes voies en Jésus-Christ, telles que je les enseigne partout, dans toutes les Eglises.
18 tEn pensant que je ne viendrais pas vous voir, quelques-uns se sont gonflés d’orgueil. 19 tOr je viendrai vous voir bientôt, si telle est la volonté du Seigneur, et je connaîtrai, non pas la parole, mais la puissance de ceux qui se sont gonflés d’orgueil. 20 tCar le règne de Dieu ne consiste pas en parole, mais en puissance. 21 tQue voulez-vous ? Que je vienne vous voir avec un bâton, ou avec amour et dans un esprit de douceur ?
1 Corinthians 4
1 Let a man so account of us, as of ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.2 Here, moreover, it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.3 But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you, or of man’s judgment: yea, I judge not mine own self.4 For I know nothing against myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord.5 Wherefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and make manifest the counsels of the hearts; and then shall each man have his praise from God.6 Now these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and Apollos for your sakes; that in us ye might learn not to go beyond the things which are written; that no one of you be puffed up for the one against the other.7 For who maketh thee to differ? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? but if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory as if thou hadst not received it?8 Already are ye filled, already ye are become rich, ye have come to reign without us: yea and I would that ye did reign, that we also might reign with you.9 For, I think, God hath set forth us the apostles last of all, as men doomed to death: for we are made a spectacle unto the world, both to angels and men.10 We are fools for Christ’s sake, but ye are wise in Christ; we are weak, but ye are strong; ye have glory, but we have dishonor.11 Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwelling-place;12 and we toil, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we endure;13 being defamed, we entreat: we are made as the filth of the world, the offscouring of all things, even until now.14 I write not these things to shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved children.15 For though ye have ten thousand tutors in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I begat you through the gospel.16 I beseech you therefore, be ye imitators of me.17 For this cause have I sent unto you Timothy, who is my beloved and faithful child in the Lord, who shall put you in remembrance of my ways which are in Christ, even as I teach everywhere in every church.18 Now some are puffed up, as though I were not coming to you.19 But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord will; and I will know, not the word of them that are puffed up, but the power.20 For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.21 What will ye? shall I come unto you with a rod, or in love and a spirit of gentleness?
