IV. LOS ALIMENTOS CONSAGRADOS A LOS ÍDOLOS (8.1–11.1)
El criterio del sentido común
1 Acerca de lo sacrificado a los ídolos,t es cierto que todos tenemos el debido conocimiento. Pero el conocimiento envanece, en tanto que el amor edifica espiritualmente.t 2 Si alguien cree conocer algo, todavía no lo conoce como debe conocerlo;
3 pero si alguien ama a Dios, Dios le conoce a él.t
4 En cuanto, pues, a comer carne ofrecida en sacrificio a los ídolos, bien sabemos que un ídolo no tiene valor alguno en el mundo,t y que solamente hay un Dios.t 5 Pues aunque en el cielo y en la tierra existieran los llamados dioses (y en este sentido hay muchos dioses y muchos señores),
6 para nosotros no existe sino un solo Dios, el Padre, en quien todo tiene su origen y para quien nosotros existimos.t Y hay un solo Señor, Jesucristo, por quien todas las cosas existen,t y también nosotros.El criterio del amor fraterno
7 Pero no todos saben esto. Algunos, acostumbrados de antes a adorar ídolos, todavía comen de esa carne pensando que fue sacrificada a los dioses, y su conciencia, que es débil, les hace sentirse contaminados por el ídolo. 8 Claro está que el hecho de que Dios nos acepte no depende de lo que comemos, pues no vamos a ser mejores por comer ni peores por no comer;t 9 pero evitad que esa libertad vuestra haga caer en pecado a los que son débiles en la fe.t 10 Porque si tú, que sabes estas cosas, te sientas a comer en un lugar dedicado a los ídolos,t y si algún hermano débil te ve, puede suceder que él se anime a comer de lo ofrecido a un ídolo. 11 Y así tú, por tu conocimiento, haces que se pierda tu hermano débil, por quien también Cristo murió. 12 Al herir la conciencia de los hermanos débiles en la fe, pecáis contra Cristo mismo. 13 Por eso, si a causa de mi comida hago yo caer en pecado a mi hermano, mejor será que nunca coma carne, para no ponerle en peligro de pecar.t

Food Sacrificed to Idols
1 With regard to food sacrificed to idols, we know that “we all have knowledge.”s Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.2 If someone thinks he knows something, he does not yet know to the degree that he needs to know.
3 But if someone loves God, het is known by God.t
4 With regard then to eating food sacrificed to idols, we know that “an idol in this world is nothing,” and that “there is no God but one.”s5 If after all there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as there are many gods and many lords),
6 yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we live, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we live.t
7 But this knowledge is not shared by all. And some, by being accustomed to idols in former times, eat this food as an idol sacrifice, and their conscience, because it is weak, is defiled.8 Now food will not bring us close to God. We are no worse if we do not eat and no better if we do.9 But be careful that this liberty of yours does not become a hindrance to the weak.10 For if someone weak sees you who possess knowledge dining in an idol’s temple, will not his conscience be “strengthened”t to eat food offered to idols?11 So by your knowledge the weak brother or sister,t for whom Christ died, is destroyed.t12 If you sin against your brothers or sisterst in this way and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ.
13 For this reason, if food causes my brother or sister to sin, I will never eat meat again, so that I may not cause one of themt to sin.
