1 CORINTIOS 8
No hagamos pecar a los más débiles
1 Ahora quiero responder a lo que me preguntaron acerca de los alimentos ofrecidos a los ídolos. Todos nosotros sabemos algo acerca de esto. Sin embargo, debemos reconocer que el conocimiento nos vuelve orgullosos, mientras que el amor fortalece nuestra vida cristiana.2 Sin duda, el que cree que sabe mucho, en realidad no sabe nada.
3 Pero Dios reconoce a todo aquel que lo ama.
4 En cuanto a esto de comer alimentos ofrecidos a los ídolos, bien sabemos que los ídolos no tienen vida, y que solamente hay un Dios.5 Algunos llaman dioses o señores a muchas cosas que hay en el cielo y en la tierra.
6 Sin embargo, para nosotros sólo hay un Dios, que es el Padre. Él creó todas las cosas, y nosotros vivimos para él. También hay sólo un Señor, que es Jesucristo. Dios creó todo por medio de él, y gracias a él nosotros vivimos ahora.
7 No todos saben estas cosas. Antes de creer en Cristo, algunos de ustedes adoraban ídolos, y todavía creen que esos ídolos tienen vida. Por eso, cuando comen alimentos que fueron ofrecidos a los ídolos, les remuerde la conciencia y se sienten culpables.8 Pero nuestra relación con Dios no va a ser mejor o peor por causa de los alimentos que comamos.9 Sin embargo, aunque tengamos derecho a comer de todo, debemos tener cuidado de no causarles problemas a los miembros de la iglesia que todavía no están debidamente instruidos.10-11 Supongamos que uno de ustedes va a comer a un lugar donde se adora a los ídolos, y que lo ve algún miembro de la iglesia que todavía cree que los ídolos tienen vida. Entonces, aunque bien sabemos que los ídolos no tienen vida, aquel miembro de la iglesia va a pensar que está bien adorar ídolos, y dejará de creer en Cristo, quien murió por él.12 Cuando le hacemos daño a los miembros de la iglesia que no saben distinguir entre lo bueno y lo malo, también le hacemos daño a Cristo.
13 Por eso yo jamás voy a comer algo, si por comerlo hago que un miembro de la iglesia peque.

1 Now concerning things sacrificed to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but love edifieth.2 If any man thinketh that he knoweth anything, he knoweth not yet as he ought to know;3 but if any man loveth God, the same is known by him.4 Concerning therefore the eating of things sacrificed to idols, we know that no idol is anything in the world, and that there is no God but one.5 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or on earth; as there are gods many, and lords many;6 yet to us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we unto him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and we through him.7 Howbeit there is not in all men that knowledge: but some, being used until now to the idol, eat as of a thing sacrificed to an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.8 But food will not commend us to God: neither, if we eat not, are we the worse; nor, if we eat, are we the better.9 But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to the weak.10 For if a man see thee who hast knowledge sitting at meat in an idol’s temple, will not his conscience, if he is weak, be emboldened to eat things sacrificed to idols?11 For through thy knowledge he that is weak perisheth, the brother for whose sake Christ died.12 And thus, sinning against the brethren, and wounding their conscience when it is weak, ye sin against Christ.13 Wherefore, if meat causeth my brother to stumble, I will eat no flesh for evermore, that I cause not my brother to stumble.
