1 CORINTIOS 9

Los derechos de los servidores de Dios

1 Yo soy libre. Soy apóstol. He visto al Señor Jesús. Y gracias a mi trabajo, ahora ustedes son de Cristo.

2 Aunque otros piensen que no soy apóstol, para ustedes sí lo soy; ustedes son cristianos, y eso demuestra que realmente soy un apóstol.
3 A los que discuten conmigo, yo les respondo4 que Bernabé y yo también tenemos derecho a recibir comida y bebida por el trabajo que hacemos.5 También tenemos derecho a que nuestra esposa nos acompañe en nuestros viajes. Así lo hacen Pedro y los otros apóstoles, y los hermanos de Jesucristo.6 ¿Acaso Bernabé y yo somos los únicos que estamos obligados a trabajar para vivir?7 En el ejército, ningún soldado paga sus gastos. Los que cultivan uvas, comen de las uvas que recogen. Y los que cuidan cabras, toman de la leche que ordeñan.8 Ésta no es una opinión mía, sino que así lo enseña la Biblia.9 Porque en los libros que escribió Moisés leemos: «No impidan que el buey coma mientras desgrana el trigo.» t t Y si la Biblia dice eso, no es porque Dios se preocupe de los bueyes,10 sino porque se preocupa por nosotros. Tanto los que preparan el terreno como los que desgranan el trigo lo hacen con la esperanza de recibir parte de la cosecha.11 De la misma manera, cuando nosotros les comunicamos a ustedes la buena noticia, es como si sembráramos en ustedes una semilla espiritual. Por eso, como recompensa por nuestro trabajo, tenemos derecho a que ustedes nos den lo necesario para vivir.

12 Si otros tienen ese derecho, con más razón lo tenemos nosotros. Pero no hemos hecho valer ese derecho, sino que todo lo hemos soportado, con tal de no crear problemas al anunciar la buena noticia de Cristo.
13 Ustedes saben que los que trabajan en el templo viven de lo que hay en el templo. Es decir, que los que trabajan en el altar del templo, comen de los animales que allí se sacrifican como ofrenda a Dios.14 De la misma manera, el Señor Jesús mandó que los que anuncian la buena noticia vivan de ese mismo trabajo.

15 Sin embargo, yo nunca he reclamado ese derecho. Tampoco les escribo esto para que me den algo. ¡Prefiero morirme antes de que alguien me quite la satisfacción de ser apóstol sin sueldo!
16 Yo no anuncio la buena noticia de Cristo para sentirme importante. Lo hago porque Dios así me lo ordenó. ¡Y pobre de mí si no lo hago!17 Yo no puedo esperar que se me pague por anunciar la buena noticia, pues no se me preguntó si quería hacerlo; ¡se me ordenó hacerlo!

18 Pero entonces, ¿qué gano yo con eso? ¡Nada menos que la satisfacción de poder anunciar la buena noticia, sin recibir nada a cambio! Es decir, anunciarla sin hacer valer mi derecho de vivir de mi trabajo como apóstol.

Esforcémonos para recibir nuestro premio

19 Aunque soy libre, vivo como si fuera el esclavo de todos. Así ayudo al mayor número posible de personas a creer en Cristo.20 Cuando estoy con los judíos, vivo como judío, para ayudarlos a creer en Cristo. Por eso cumplo con la ley de Moisés, aunque en realidad no estoy obligado a hacerlo.21 Y cuando estoy con los que no obedecen la ley de Moisés, vivo como uno de ellos, para ayudarlos a creer en Cristo. Esto no significa que yo no obedezca la ley de Dios. Al contrario, la obedezco, pues sigo la ley de Cristo.22 Cuando estoy con los que apenas empiezan a ser cristianos, me comporto como uno de ellos para poder ayudarlos. Es decir, me he hecho igual a todos, para que algunos se salven.

23 Y todo esto lo hago porque amo la buena noticia, y porque quiero participar de sus buenos resultados.
24 Ustedes saben que, en una carrera, no todos ganan el premio, sino uno solo. Pues nuestra vida como seguidores de Cristo es como una carrera, así que vivamos bien para llevarnos el premio.25 Los que se preparan para competir en un deporte, dejan de hacer todo lo que pueda perjudicarlos. ¡Y lo hacen para ganarse un premio que no dura mucho! Nosotros, en cambio, lo hacemos para recibir un premio que dura para siempre.26 Yo me esfuerzo por recibirlo. Así que no lucho sin un propósito.

27 Al contrario, vivo con mucha disciplina y trato de dominarme a mí mismo. Pues si anuncio a otros la buena noticia, no quiero que al final Dios me descalifique a mí.

1 Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Have I not seen Jesus our Lord? Are not ye my work in the Lord?2 If to others I am not an apostle, yet at least I am to you; for the seal of mine apostleship are ye in the Lord.3 My defence to them that examine me is this.4 Have we no right to eat and to drink?5 Have we no right to lead about a wife that is a believer, even as the rest of the apostles, and the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas?6 Or I only and Barnabas, have we not a right to forbear working?7 What soldier ever serveth at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not the fruit thereof? Or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock?8 Do I speak these things after the manner of men? or saith not the law also the same?9 For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox when he treadeth out the corn. Is it for the oxen that God careth,10 or saith he it assuredly for our sake? Yea, for our sake it was written: because he that ploweth ought to plow in hope, and he that thresheth, to thresh in hope of partaking.11 If we sowed unto you spiritual things, is it a great matter if we shall reap your carnal things?12 If others partake of this right over you, do not we yet more? Nevertheless we did not use this right; but we bear all things, that we may cause no hindrance to the gospel of Christ.13 Know ye not that they that minister about sacred things eat of the things of the temple, and they that wait upon the altar have their portion with the altar?14 Even so did the Lord ordain that they that proclaim the gospel should live of the gospel.15 But I have used none of these things: and I write not these things that it may be so done in my case; for it were good for me rather to die, than that any man should make my glorifying void.16 For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of; for necessity is laid upon me; for woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel.17 For if I do this of mine own will, I have a reward: but if not of mine own will, I have a stewardship intrusted to me.18 What then is my reward? That, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel without charge, so as not to use to the full my right in the gospel.19 For though I was free from all men, I brought myself under bondage to all, that I might gain the more.20 And to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, not being myself under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;21 to them that are without law, as without law, not being without law to God, but under law to Christ, that I might gain them that are without law.22 To the weak I became weak, that I might gain the weak: I am become all things to all men, that I may by all means save some.23 And I do all things for the gospel’s sake, that I may be a joint partaker thereof.24 Know ye not that they that run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? Even so run; that ye may attain.25 And every man that striveth in the games exerciseth self-control in all things. Now they do it to receive a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.26 I therefore so run, as not uncertainly; so fight I, as not beating the air:27 but I buffet my body, and bring it into bondage: lest by any means, after that I have preached to others, I myself should be rejected.
