1 Juan 3

1 Miren cuánto nos ama Dios el Padre, que se nos puede llamar hijos de Dios, y lo somos. Por eso, los que son del mundo no nos conocen, pues no han conocido a Dios.2 Queridos hermanos, ya somos hijos de Dios. Y aunque no se ve todavía lo que seremos después, sabemos que cuando Jesucristo aparezca seremos como él, porque lo veremos tal como es.3 Y todo el que tiene esta esperanza en él, se purifica a sí mismo, de la misma manera que Jesucristo es puro.4 Pero todo el que peca, hace maldad; porque el pecado es la maldad.5 Ustedes ya saben que Jesucristo vino al mundo para quitar los pecados, y que él no tiene pecado alguno.6 Así pues, todo el que permanece unido a él, no sigue pecando; pero todo el que peca, no lo ha visto ni lo ha conocido.7 Hijitos míos, que nadie los engañe: el que practica la justicia es justo, como él es justo;8 pero el que practica el pecado es del diablo, porque el diablo peca desde el principio. Precisamente para esto ha venido el Hijo de Dios: para deshacer lo hecho por el diablo.9 Ninguno que sea hijo de Dios practica el pecado, porque tiene en sí mismo el germen de la vida de Dios; y no puede seguir pecando porque es hijo de Dios.10 Se sabe quiénes son hijos de Dios y quiénes son hijos del diablo, porque cualquiera que no hace el bien o no ama a su hermano, no es de Dios.

2. El mandamiento del amor

11 Éste es el mensaje que han oído ustedes desde el principio: que nos amemos unos a otros.12 No seamos como Caín, que era del maligno y mató a su hermano. ¿Y por qué lo mató? Pues porque los hechos de Caín eran malos, y los de su hermano, buenos.13 Hermanos míos, no se extrañen si los que son del mundo los odian.14 Nosotros hemos pasado de la muerte a la vida, y lo sabemos porque amamos a nuestros hermanos. El que no ama, aún está muerto.15 Todo el que odia a su hermano es un asesino, y ustedes saben que ningún asesino puede tener vida eterna en sí mismo.16 Conocemos lo que es el amor porque Jesucristo dio su vida por nosotros; así también, nosotros debemos dar la vida por nuestros hermanos.17 Pues si uno es rico y ve que su hermano necesita ayuda, pero no se la da, ¿cómo puede tener amor de Dios en su corazón?18 Hijitos míos, que nuestro amor no sea solamente de palabra, sino que se demuestre con hechos.19 De esta manera sabremos que somos de la verdad, y podremos sentirnos seguros delante de Dios;20 pues si nuestro corazón nos acusa de algo, Dios es más grande que nuestro corazón, y lo sabe todo.21 Queridos hermanos, si nuestro corazón no nos acusa, tenemos confianza delante de Dios;22 y él nos dará todo lo que le pidamos, porque obedecemos sus mandamientos y hacemos lo que le agrada.23 Y su mandamiento es que creamos en su Hijo Jesucristo, y que nos amemos unos a otros como él nos mandó.24 Los que obedecen sus mandamientos viven en él, y él vive en ellos. Y en esto sabemos que él vive en nosotros: por el Espíritu que nos ha dado.

1 Behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called children of God; and such we are. For this cause the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.2 Beloved, now are we children of God, and it is not yet made manifest what we shall be. We know that, if he shall be manifested, we shall be like him; for we shall see him even as he is.3 And every one that hath this hope set on him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.4 Every one that doeth sin doeth also lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness.5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away sins; and in him is no sin.6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither knoweth him.7 My little children, let no man lead you astray: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous:8 he that doeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. To this end was the Son of God manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.9 Whosoever is begotten of God doeth no sin, because his seed abideth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is begotten of God.10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.11 For this is the message which ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another:12 not as Cain was of the evil one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his works were evil, and his brother’s righteous.13 Marvel not, brethren, if the world hateth you.14 We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not abideth in death.15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.16 Hereby know we love, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.17 But whoso hath the world’s goods, and beholdeth his brother in need, and shutteth up his compassion from him, how doth the love of God abide in him?18 My Little children, let us not love in word, neither with the tongue; but in deed and truth.19 Hereby shall we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our heart before him:20 because if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.21 Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, we have boldness toward God;22 and whatsoever we ask we receive of him, because we keep his commandments and do the things that are pleasing in his sight.23 And this is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, even as he gave us commandment.24 And he that keepeth his commandments abideth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he gave us.
