Troens seier
1 Enhver som tror at Jesus er Kristus, er født av Gud. Og den som elsker Gud, elsker også det som er født av ham. t 2 Kjennetegnet på at vi elsker Guds barn er om vi elsker Gud og holder hans bud. 3 Å elske Gud er å holde hans bud. Og hans bud er ikke tunge. t
4 For alt som er født av Gud, seirer over verden. Og det som har seiret over verden, er vår tro.tVitnesbyrdet om Sønnen
5 Hvem andre seirer over verden enn den som tror at Jesus er Guds Sønn? t 6 Han er den som kom med vann og med blod, Jesus Kristus – ikke bare med vannet, men med vannet og blodet. Og Ånden selv er vitne, fordi Ånden er sannheten. t 7 For det er tre som vitner: 8 Ånden og vannet og blodet, og disse tre samstemmer. 9 Vi godtar jo vitnesbyrd fra mennesker, men Guds vitnesbyrd er sterkere. For dette er Guds vitnesbyrd: Han har vitnet om sin Sønn. t 10 Den som tror på Guds Sønn, har vitnesbyrdet i seg. Men den som ikke tror Gud, har gjort ham til en løgner, fordi han ikke har trodd Guds eget vitnesbyrd om sin Sønn. t 11 Og dette er vitnesbyrdet: Gud har gitt oss evig liv, og dette liv er i hans Sønn. t
12 Den som har Sønnen, eier livet, men den som ikke har Guds Sønn, eier ikke livet.tBønn og forbønn
13 Dette har jeg skrevet til dere for at dere skal vite at dere har evig liv, dere som tror på Guds Sønns navn. t 14 Og denne frimodige tillit har vi til ham at han hører oss når vi ber om noe som er etter hans vilje. t 15 Og når vi vet at han hører oss hva vi enn ber om, så vet vi at vi allerede har det vi har bedt ham om. 16 Dersom noen ser sin bror begå en synd som ikke fører til død, da skal han be for ham, og Gud skal gi ham liv – så sant han ikke er av dem som synder til døden. Det finnes synd som fører til død, men jeg taler ikke om bønn for den. t
17 All urett er synd; men ikke all synd fører til død.tHva troen vet
18 Vi vet at den som er født av Gud, ikke synder; for han som er født av Gud, bevarer ham, og den onde rører ham ikke.t t
19 Vi vet at vi er av Gud, og at hele verden ligger i det onde. t 20 Vi vet at Guds Sønn er kommet, og han har gitt oss forstand så vi kjenner Den Sanne. Og vi er i ham, Den Sanne, vi som er i hans Sønn, Jesus Kristus. 1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christt has been fatheredt by God, and everyone who loves the fathers loves the child fathered by him.s2 By thist we know that we love the children of God: whenever we love God and obey his commandments.3 Fort this is the love of God:t that we keep his commandments.t And his commandments do not weigh us down,
4 becauset everyonet who has been fathered by Gods conquerst the world.s
Thist is the conquering powert that has conqueredt the world: our faith.
Testimony About the Son
5 Now who is the person who has conquered the world except the one who believes thatt Jesus is the Son of God?6 Jesus Christ is the one who came by water and blood – not by the water only, but by the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one who testifies, becauset the Spirit is the truth.7 Fort there are three that testify,sss
8 the Spirit and the water and the blood, and these three are in agreement.
9 If we accept the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater, becauset thist is the testimony of God thatt he has testified concerning his Son.10 (The one who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself; the one who does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has testified concerning his Son.)s11 And this is the testimony: Godt has given us eternal life,s and this life is in his Son.
12 The one who has the Sons has thist eternalt life; the one who does not have the Son of God does not have thist eternalt life.
Assurance of Eternal Life
13 I have written these thingst to you who believet in the name of the Son of God so thatt you may know that you have eternal life.
14 And this is the confidence that we have before him: thatt whenevert we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.15 And if we knowt that he hears us in regard to whatever we ask, then we know that we have the requests that we have asked from him.16 Ift anyone sees his fellow Christiant committing a sin not resulting in death,t he should ask, and Godt will grantt life to the person who commits a sin not resulting in death.t There is a sin resulting in death.t I do not say that he should ask about that.
17 All unrighteousnesst is sin, but there is sin not resulting in death.t
18 We know that everyone fatheredt by God does not sin, but Godt protectst the one he has fathered, and the evil one cannot touch him.19 We know that we are from God,t and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us insight to knowt him who is true, and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. This ones is the true God and eternal life.
21 Little children, guard yourselves from idols.ss
