EPISTOLA I DI S. GIOVANNI 5

La fede in Gesù e le sue conseguenze

1 OGNUNO che crede che Gesù è il Cristo è nato da Diot; e chiunque ama colui che l'ha generato, ama ancora colui che è stato generato da essot. 2 Per questo conosciamo che amiamo i figliuoli di Dio, quando amiamo Iddio, ed osserviamo i suoi comandamenti. 3 Perciocchè questo è l'amore di Dio, che noi osserviamo i suoi comandamentit; e i suoi comandamenti non sono gravit. 4 Poichè tutto quello che è nato da Dio vince il mondot; e questa è la vittoria che ha vinto il mondo, cioè, la fede nostra.

5 Chi è colui che vince il mondo, se non colui che crede che Gesù è il Figliuolo di Diot?
6 Questi è quel che è venuto con acqua, e sanguet, cioè Gesù Cristo; non con acqua solamente, ma con sangue, e con acqua; e lo Spirito è quel che ne rende testimonianzat; poichè lo Spirito è la verità. 7 Perciocchè tre son quelli che testimoniano nel cielo: il Padre, e la Parolat, e lo Spirito Santo; e questi tre sono una stessa cosat.

8 Tre ancora son quelli che testimoniano sopra la terra: lo Spirito, e l'acqua, e il sangue; e questi tre si riferiscono a quell'una cosa.
9 Se noi riceviamo la testimonianza degli uominit, la testimonianza di Dio è pur maggiore; poichè questa è la testimonianza di Dio, la quale egli ha testimoniata del suo Figliuolot. 10 Chi crede nel Figliuol di Dio, ha quella testimonianza in sè stessot; chi non crede a Dio, lo fa bugiardot; poichè non ha creduto alla testimonianza, che Iddio ha testimoniata intorno al suo Figliuolo. 11 E la testimonianza è questa: che Iddio ci ha data la vita eterna, e che questa vita è nel suo Figliuolot.

12 Chi ha il Figliuolo ha la vitat; chi non ha il Figliuol di Dio non ha la vita.

13 Io ho scritte queste cose a voi che credetet nel nome del Figliuol di Dio acciocchè sappiate che avete la vita eternat, ed acciocchè crediate nel nome del Figliuol di Dio.

Efficacia della preghiera

15 E, se sappiamo che qualunque cosa chieggiamo, egli ci esaudisce, noi sappiamo che abbiamo le cose che abbiam richieste da lui.
16 Se alcuno vede il suo fratello commetter peccato che non sia a morte, preghi Iddio, ed egli gli donerà la vitat, cioè, a quelli che peccano, ma non a morte. Vi è un peccato a mortet; per quello io non dico che egli preghit.

17 Ogni iniquità è peccatot; ma v'è alcun peccato che non è a morte.
18 Noi sappiamo che chiunque è nato da Dio non peccat; ma chi è nato da Dio conserva sè stessot, e il maligno non lo tocca. 19 Noi sappiamo che siam da Dio e che tutto il mondo giace nel malignot.

20 Ma noi sappiamo che il Figliuol di Dio è venuto, e ci ha dato intendimentot, acciocchè conosciamo colui che è il verot; e noi siamo nel vero, nel suo Figliuol Gesù Cristo; questo è il vero Diot, e la vita eternat.
21 Figlioletti, guardatevi dagl'idolit. Amen.

1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christt has been fatheredt by God, and everyone who loves the fathers loves the child fathered by him.s2 By thist we know that we love the children of God: whenever we love God and obey his commandments.3 Fort this is the love of God:t that we keep his commandments.t And his commandments do not weigh us down,

4 becauset everyonet who has been fathered by Gods conquerst the world.s
Thist is the conquering powert that has conqueredt the world: our faith.

Testimony About the Son

5 Now who is the person who has conquered the world except the one who believes thatt Jesus is the Son of God?6 Jesus Christ is the one who came by water and blood – not by the water only, but by the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one who testifies, becauset the Spirit is the truth.7 Fort there are three that testify,sss

8 the Spirit and the water and the blood, and these three are in agreement.
9 If we accept the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater, becauset thist is the testimony of God thatt he has testified concerning his Son.10 (The one who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself; the one who does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has testified concerning his Son.)s11 And this is the testimony: Godt has given us eternal life,s and this life is in his Son.

12 The one who has the Sons has thist eternalt life; the one who does not have the Son of God does not have thist eternalt life.

Assurance of Eternal Life

13 I have written these thingst to you who believet in the name of the Son of God so thatt you may know that you have eternal life.
14 And this is the confidence that we have before him: thatt whenevert we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.15 And if we knowt that he hears us in regard to whatever we ask, then we know that we have the requests that we have asked from him.16 Ift anyone sees his fellow Christiant committing a sin not resulting in death,t he should ask, and Godt will grantt life to the person who commits a sin not resulting in death.t There is a sin resulting in death.t I do not say that he should ask about that.

17 All unrighteousnesst is sin, but there is sin not resulting in death.t
18 We know that everyone fatheredt by God does not sin, but Godt protectst the one he has fathered, and the evil one cannot touch him.19 We know that we are from God,t and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us insight to knowt him who is true, and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. This ones is the true God and eternal life.
