La fede in Gesù e le sue conseguenze

1 Chiunque crede che Gesù è il Cristo, è nato da Dio; e chiunque ama colui che ha generato, ama {anche} chi è stato da lui generato.2 Da questo sappiamo che amiamo i figli di Dio: quando amiamo Dio e mettiamo in pratica i suoi comandamenti.3 Perché questo è l'amore di Dio: che osserviamo i suoi comandamenti; e i suoi comandamenti non sono gravosi.4 Poiché tutto quello che è nato da Dio vince il mondo; e questa è la vittoria che ha vinto il mondo: la nostra fede.

5 Chi è che vince il mondo, se non colui che crede che Gesù è il Figlio di Dio?
6 Egli è colui che è venuto con acqua e sangue, cioè Gesù Cristo; non con acqua soltanto, ma con l'acqua e con il sangue. Ed è lo Spirito che ne rende testimonianza, perché lo Spirito è la verità.7 Poiché tre sono quelli che rendono testimonianza:

8 lo Spirito, l'acqua e il sangue, e i tre sono concordi.
9 Se accettiamo la testimonianza degli uomini, la testimonianza di Dio è maggiore, poiché questa è la testimonianza di Dio che egli ha reso al Figlio suo.10 Chi crede nel Figlio di Dio ha questa testimonianza in sé; chi non crede a Dio, lo fa bugiardo, perché non crede alla testimonianza che Dio ha resa al proprio Figlio.11 E la testimonianza è questa: Dio ci ha dato la vita eterna, e questa vita è nel Figlio suo.

12 Chi ha il Figlio ha la vita; chi non ha il Figlio di Dio, non ha la vita.

13 Vi ho scritto queste cose perché sappiate che avete la vita eterna, voi che credete nel nome del Figlio di Dio.
14 Questa è la fiducia che abbiamo in lui: che se domandiamo qualche cosa secondo la sua volontà, egli ci esaudisce.

15 Se sappiamo che egli ci esaudisce in ciò che gli chiediamo, noi sappiamo di avere le cose che gli abbiamo chieste.
16 Se qualcuno vede suo fratello commettere un peccato che non conduca a morte, preghi, e Dio gli darà la vita: a quelli, cioè, che commettono un peccato che non conduca a morte. Vi è un peccato che conduce a morte t; non è per quello che dico di pregare.

17 Ogni iniquità è peccato; ma c'è un peccato che non conduce a morte.
18 Noi sappiamo che chiunque è nato da Dio non persiste nel peccare; ma colui che nacque da Dio lo protegge, e il maligno non lo tocca.19 Noi sappiamo che siamo da Dio, e che tutto il mondo giace sotto il potere del maligno.20 Sappiamo pure che il Figlio di Dio è venuto e ci ha dato intelligenza per conoscere colui che è il Vero; e noi siamo in colui che è il Vero, cioè nel suo Figlio Gesù Cristo. Egli è il vero Dio e la vita eterna.

21 Figlioli, guardatevi dagli idoli.

Victory over the World

1 If we believe Jesus is truly Christ, we are God's children. Everyone who loves the Father will also love his children. 2 If we love and obey God, we know we will love his children.

3 t We show our love for God by obeying his commandments, and they are not hard to follow.
4 Every child of God can defeat the world, and our faith is what gives us this victory.

5 No one can defeat the world without having faith in Jesus as the Son of God.

Who Jesus Is

8 They are the Spirit, the water, and the blood, and they all agree.
9 We believe what people tell us. But we can trust what God says even more, and God is the one who has spoken about his Son. 10 If we have faith in God's Son, we have believed what God has said. But if we don't believe what God has said about his Son, it is the same as calling God a liar. 11 t God has also said he gave us eternal life and this life comes to us from his Son.

12 And so, if we have God's Son, we have this life. But if we don't have the Son, we don't have this life.

Knowing about Eternal Life

15 And if we know God listens when we pray, we are sure our prayers have already been answered.
16 Suppose you see one of our people commit a sin that isn't a deadly sin. You can pray, and this person will be given eternal life. But the sin must not be one that is deadly.

17 Everything that is wrong is sin, but not all sins are deadly.

18 We are sure God's children do not keep on sinning. God's own Son protects them, and the devil cannot harm them.

19 We are certain we come from God and the rest of the world is under the power of the devil.

20 We know that Jesus Christ the Son of God has come and has shown us the true God. And because of Jesus, we now belong to the true God who gives eternal life.
21 Children, you must stay away from idols.
