Víra přemáhá svět
1 Každý, kdo věří, že Ježíš je Mesiáš, se narodil z Boha. Každý, kdo miluje toho, který zplodil, miluje i toho, který se z něj narodil. 2 To, že milujeme Boží děti, se pozná podle toho, že milujeme Boha a plníme jeho přikázání. 3 Láska k Bohu je v tom, abychom plnili jeho přikázání – a jeho přikázání nejsou těžká. 4 Všechno, co se narodilo z Boha, přece přemáhá svět. A to je to vítězství, které přemohlo svět: naše víra. 5 Kdo jiný přemáhá svět než ten, kdo věří, že Ježíš je Syn Boží?
6 To je ten, který přišel skrze vodu a krev, Ježíš Kristus – nejen skrze vodu, ale skrze vodu a krev. Duch je ten, který to dosvědčuje, protože Duch je pravda. 7 Jsou tu tedy tři svědkové: 8 Duch, voda a krev – a ti tři jsou zajedno. 9 Když přijímáme lidské svědectví, oč větší je svědectví Boží! A toto je svědectví, které Bůh vydal o svém Synu.
10 Kdo věří v Božího Syna, má svědectví sám v sobě. Kdo Bohu nevěří, udělal z něj lháře, neboť neuvěřil svědectví, které Bůh vydal o svém Synu. 11 A to svědectví je toto: Bůh nám dal věčný život a ten život je v jeho Synu. 12 Kdo má Syna, má život, kdo nemá Syna Božího, nemá život.
13 Tyto věci píšu vám, kteří věříte ve jméno Božího Syna, abyste věděli, že máte věčný život.
Epilog
14 Toto je smělá důvěra, kterou k němu máme: Kdykoli o něco prosíme podle jeho vůle, slyší nás. 15 A když víme, že nás slyší, kdykoli o něco prosíme, pak víme, že to, oč jsme jej prosili, dostáváme.
16 Když někdo vidí svého bratra hřešit, ovšem hříchem, který není k smrti, ať se modlí a Bůh mu dá život. To platí o těch, kdo nehřeší k smrti. Je ovšem i hřích k smrti a neříkám, aby se modlil za takový. 17 Každá špatnost je hřích, ale ten hřích nemusí být k smrti.
18 Víme, že žádný, kdo se narodil z Boha, nehřeší. Kdo se narodil z Boha, opatruje se, aby se ho ten Zlý nedotýkal. 19 Víme, že my jsme z Boha, ale celý svět leží ve Zlu. 20 A víme, že Boží Syn přišel a dal nám schopnost znát pravého Boha, a tak jsme v něm, totiž v jeho Synu Ježíši Kristu. On je ten pravý Bůh a věčný život.

1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christt has been fatheredt by God, and everyone who loves the fathers loves the child fathered by him.s2 By thist we know that we love the children of God: whenever we love God and obey his commandments.3 Fort this is the love of God:t that we keep his commandments.t And his commandments do not weigh us down,
4 becauset everyonet who has been fathered by Gods conquerst the world.s
Thist is the conquering powert that has conqueredt the world: our faith.
Testimony About the Son
5 Now who is the person who has conquered the world except the one who believes thatt Jesus is the Son of God?6 Jesus Christ is the one who came by water and blood – not by the water only, but by the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one who testifies, becauset the Spirit is the truth.7 Fort there are three that testify,sss
8 the Spirit and the water and the blood, and these three are in agreement.
9 If we accept the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater, becauset thist is the testimony of God thatt he has testified concerning his Son.10 (The one who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself; the one who does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has testified concerning his Son.)s11 And this is the testimony: Godt has given us eternal life,s and this life is in his Son.
12 The one who has the Sons has thist eternalt life; the one who does not have the Son of God does not have thist eternalt life.
Assurance of Eternal Life
13 I have written these thingst to you who believet in the name of the Son of God so thatt you may know that you have eternal life.
14 And this is the confidence that we have before him: thatt whenevert we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.15 And if we knowt that he hears us in regard to whatever we ask, then we know that we have the requests that we have asked from him.16 Ift anyone sees his fellow Christiant committing a sin not resulting in death,t he should ask, and Godt will grantt life to the person who commits a sin not resulting in death.t There is a sin resulting in death.t I do not say that he should ask about that.
17 All unrighteousnesst is sin, but there is sin not resulting in death.t
18 We know that everyone fatheredt by God does not sin, but Godt protectst the one he has fathered, and the evil one cannot touch him.19 We know that we are from God,t and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us insight to knowt him who is true, and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. This ones is the true God and eternal life.
21 Little children, guard yourselves from idols.ss
