Vivamos en la fe

1 Todo el que cree que Jesús es el *Cristo, ha nacido de Dios, y todo el que ama al padre, ama también a sus hijos. 2 Así, cuando amamos a Dios y cumplimos sus mandamientos, sabemos que amamos a los hijos de Dios. 3 En esto consiste el amor a Dios: en que obedezcamos sus mandamientos. Y éstos no son difíciles de cumplir, 4 porque todo el que ha nacido de Dios vence al mundo. Ésta es la victoria que vence al mundo: nuestra fe. 5 ¿Quién es el que vence al mundo sino el que cree que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios?
6 Éste es el que vino mediante agua y sangre, Jesucristo; no sólo mediante agua, sino mediante agua y sangre. El Espíritu es quien da testimonio de esto, porque el Espíritu es la verdad. 7 Tres son los que dan testimonio, 8 y los tres están de acuerdo: el Espíritus, el agua y la sangre. 9 Aceptamos el testimonio *humano, pero el testimonio de Dios vale mucho más, precisamente porque es el testimonio de Dios, que él ha dado acerca de su Hijo. 10 El que cree en el Hijo de Dios acepta este testimonio. El que no cree a Dios lo hace pasar por mentiroso, por no haber creído el testimonio que Dios ha dado acerca de su Hijo. 11 Y el testimonio es éste: que Dios nos ha dado vida eterna, y esa vida está en su Hijo. 12 El que tiene al Hijo, tiene la vida; el que no tiene al Hijo de Dios, no tiene la vida.

Observaciones finales

13 Les escribo estas cosas a ustedes que creen en el nombre del Hijo de Dios, para que sepan que tienen vida eterna. 14 Ésta es la confianza que tenemos al acercarnos a Dios: que si pedimos conforme a su voluntad, él nos oye. 15 Y si sabemos que Dios oye todas nuestras oraciones, podemos estar seguros de que ya tenemos lo que le hemos pedido.
16 Si alguno ve a su hermano cometer un pecado que no lleva a la muerte, ore por él y Dios le dará vida. Me refiero a quien comete un pecado que no lleva a la muerte. Hay un pecado que sí lleva a la muerte, y en ese caso no digo que se ore por él. 17 Toda maldad es pecado, pero hay pecado que no lleva a la muerte.
18 Sabemos que el que ha nacido de Dios no está en pecado: *Jesucristo, que nació de Dios, lo protege, y el maligno no llega a tocarlo. 19 Sabemos que somos hijos de Dios, y que el mundo entero está bajo el control del maligno. 20 También sabemos que el Hijo de Dios ha venido y nos ha dado entendimiento para que conozcamos al Dios verdadero. Y estamos con el Verdadero, cons su Hijo Jesucristo. Éste es el Dios verdadero y la vida eterna.
21 Queridos hijos, apártense de los ídolos.

1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christt has been fatheredt by God, and everyone who loves the fathers loves the child fathered by him.s2 By thist we know that we love the children of God: whenever we love God and obey his commandments.3 Fort this is the love of God:t that we keep his commandments.t And his commandments do not weigh us down,

4 becauset everyonet who has been fathered by Gods conquerst the world.s
Thist is the conquering powert that has conqueredt the world: our faith.

Testimony About the Son

5 Now who is the person who has conquered the world except the one who believes thatt Jesus is the Son of God?6 Jesus Christ is the one who came by water and blood – not by the water only, but by the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one who testifies, becauset the Spirit is the truth.7 Fort there are three that testify,sss

8 the Spirit and the water and the blood, and these three are in agreement.
9 If we accept the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater, becauset thist is the testimony of God thatt he has testified concerning his Son.10 (The one who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself; the one who does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has testified concerning his Son.)s11 And this is the testimony: Godt has given us eternal life,s and this life is in his Son.

12 The one who has the Sons has thist eternalt life; the one who does not have the Son of God does not have thist eternalt life.

Assurance of Eternal Life

13 I have written these thingst to you who believet in the name of the Son of God so thatt you may know that you have eternal life.
14 And this is the confidence that we have before him: thatt whenevert we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.15 And if we knowt that he hears us in regard to whatever we ask, then we know that we have the requests that we have asked from him.16 Ift anyone sees his fellow Christiant committing a sin not resulting in death,t he should ask, and Godt will grantt life to the person who commits a sin not resulting in death.t There is a sin resulting in death.t I do not say that he should ask about that.

17 All unrighteousnesst is sin, but there is sin not resulting in death.t
18 We know that everyone fatheredt by God does not sin, but Godt protectst the one he has fathered, and the evil one cannot touch him.19 We know that we are from God,t and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us insight to knowt him who is true, and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. This ones is the true God and eternal life.
