Saludo
1 Pedro, apóstol de Jesucristo, a los elegidos que viven como extranjeros dispersos* por el Ponto, Galacia, Capadocia, Asiat y Bitinia.t
2 A ustedes, objeto del designio amoroso de Dios Padre y consagrados por medio del Espíritu para que obedezcan a Jesucristo y sean purificados con su sangret, les deseo gracia y paz en abundancia.tI.— UNA HERENCIA RESERVADA EN LOS CIELOS (1,3-12)
Viviendo en esperanza
3 Bendito sea Dios, Padre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo que, por su inmenso amor y mediante la resurrección de Jesucristo triunfante de la muerte, nos ha hecho renacer a una esperanza viviente,t 4 a una herencia incorruptible, inmaculada e imperecedera. Una herencia reservada en los cielos para ustedes 5 a quienes el poder de Dios asegura, mediante la fe, la salvación que ha de revelarse en el momento final. 6 Por eso viven alegres, aunque por un poco tiempo todavía sea necesario que soporten la aflicción de múltiples pruebas.t 7 Claro que así la autenticidad de la fe que ustedes profesan —de más valor que el oro, que no deja de ser caduco aunque sea acrisolado por el fuego— será motivo de alabanza, de gloria y de honor, cuando se manifieste Jesucristo,t 8 a quien aman y en quien confían aun sin haberlo vistot. Ustedes se alegrarán, con un gozo inenarrable y radiante,t
9 al recibir la salvación, meta de la fe.Una salvación anunciada
10 Acerca de esta salvación indagaron e investigaron los profetas cuando anunciaban los bienes que Dios tenía destinados para ustedes. 11 Pretendían así averiguar a qué persona y a qué tiempo se refería el Espíritu de Cristo, que alentaba en ellos, cuando anunciaba de antemano lo que Cristo había de sufrir y la gloria que seguiría a tales sufrimientos.t
12 Y se les reveló que lo que ahora les anuncian a ustedes quienes les proclaman el mensaje evangélicot con la fuerza del Espíritu Santo enviado desde el cielo, lo llevan a cabo no en su provecho, sino en el de ustedes. Anuncio este que los mismos ángeles están deseando contemplar.tII.— UN NUEVO ESTILO DE VIDA (1,13—2,18)
Llamados a una vida nueva
13 Tengan, pues, a punto la mentet; no se dejen seducir y pongan toda la esperanza en el don que les traerá la manifestación de Jesucristo. 14 Como hijos obedientes, no sometán sus vidas a las apetencias de antaño, cuando aún vivían en la ignorancia.t 15 Por el contrario, compórtense en todo santamentet, como santo es el que los llamó.
16 Pues así lo dice la Escritura: Sean santos, porque yo soy santo.t
17 Y, si llaman Padre al que juzga a todos sin favoritismos y según su conducta, compórtense fielmentet mientras viven en tierra extraña.t 18 Deben saber que han sido liberados de la estéril situación heredada de los mayores, no con bienes caducos como son el oro y la plata,t 19 sino con la sangre preciosa de Cristo, cordero sin mancha y sin tachat 20 que, existiendo desde antes de la creación del mundo, se ha manifestado al final de los tiempos para el bien de ustedes.t
21 Gracias a él, creen en Dios, que lo resucitó triunfante de la muerte y lo llenó de gloria para que de esta manera la fe y la esperanza que ustedes tienen descansen en Dios.tInvitación al amor fraterno
22 Ustedes, obedientes a la verdad*, han eliminado cuanto impide* una auténtica fraternidad. Ámense, pues, intensa y entrañablementet unos a otrost 23 ya que han nacido de nuevo, no de un germen mortal, sino de uno inmortal, mediante la palabra de Dios viva y permanentet.t
24 Porque está escrito:
Todo mortal es como hierba;
toda su hermosura como flor de hierba.
Se agosta la hierba y cae la flor.
25 Pero la palabra de Dios perdura para siempre .
Y esta es la palabra que les ha sido anunciada como buena noticiat.t

Salutation
1 From Peter,t an apostle of Jesus Christ, to those temporarily residingt abroadt (in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, the province of Asia,t and Bithynia) who are chosent
2 according to the foreknowledge of God the Father by being set apart by the Spirit for obedience and for sprinklings with Jesus Christ’s blood. May grace and peace be yours in full measure!t
New Birth to Joy and Holiness
3 Blessed bet the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy he gave us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,4 that is,t intot an inheritance imperishable, undefiled, and unfading. It is reserved in heaven for you,5 who by God’s power are protected through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.6 This brings you great joy,t although you may have to sufferst for a short time in various trials.7 Such trials show the proven character of your faith,ts which is much more valuable than gold – gold that is tested by fire, even though it is passing awayt – and will bring praiset and glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.t8 Yout have not seen him, but you love him. Yout do not see him now but you believe in him, and so you rejoicet with an indescribable and glorioust joy,
9 because you are attaining the goal of your faith – the salvation of your souls.
10 Concerning this salvation,t the prophetss who predicted the grace that would come to yout searched and investigated carefully.11 They probedt into what person or timets the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating when he testified beforehand about the sufferings appointed for Christt and his subsequent glory.t
12 They were shownt that they were serving not themselves but you, in regard to the things now announced to you through those who proclaimed the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven – things angels long to catch a glimpse of.
13 Therefore, get your minds ready for actiont by being fully sober, and set your hopet completely on the grace that will be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed.t14 Like obedient children, do not comply witht the evil urges you used to follow in your ignorance,t15 but, like the Holy One who called you, become holy yourselves in all of your conduct,16 for it is written, “You shall be holy, because I am holy.”s17 And if you address as Father the one who impartially judges according to each one’s work, live out the time of your temporary residence heret in reverence.18 You know that from your empty way of life inherited from your ancestors you were ransomed – not by perishable things like silver or gold,19 but by precious blood like that of an unblemished and spotless lamb, namely Christ.20 He was foreknownt before the foundation of the world butt was manifested in these last timest for your sake.
21 Through him you now trustst in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.
22 You have purifiedt your souls by obeying the truths in order to show sincere mutual love.t Sot love one another earnestly from a pure heart.s23 You have been born anew, not from perishable but from imperishable seed, through the living and enduring word of God.
24 For
all fleshsis like grass
and all its glory like the flower of the grass;t
the grass withers and the flower falls off,
25 but the word of the Lordsendures forever.s
And this is the word that was proclaimed to you.
