Introducción (1.1-13)
Saludo
1 Pedro,t apóstolt de Jesucristo, a los que viven esparcidos fuera de su patria,t en las provincias de Ponto, Galacia, Capadocia, Asia y Bitinia,t
2 a quienes Dios Padre había escogido anteriormente conforme a su propósito. Por medio del Espíritu os ha consagradot para que le obedezcáis y seáis purificadost con la sangre de Jesucristo.t Recibid abundancia de gracia y de paz.Una esperanza viva
3 Alabemos al Dios y Padre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, que por su gran misericordia nos ha hecho nacer de nuevo por la resurrección de Jesucristo.t Esto nos da una viva esperanzat 4 y hará que recibáis la herenciat que Dios os tiene guardada en el cielo, la cual no se puede destruir ni manchar ni marchitar.
5 Por la fe que tenéis en Dios, él os protege con su poder para que alcancéis la salvación que tiene preparada y que dará a conocer en los tiempos últimos.
6 Por esta razón estáis llenos de alegría,t aun cuando sea necesario que durante un poco de tiempo paséis por muchas pruebas.
7 Porque vuestra fe es como el oro: su calidad debe ser probada por medio del fuego.t La fe que resiste la prueba vale mucho más que el oro, el cual se puede destruir. De manera que vuestra fe, al ser así probada, merecerá aprobación, gloria y honor cuando Jesucristo aparezca.
8-9 Vosotros amáis a Jesucristo aunque no le habéis visto.t Ahora, creyendo en él sin haberle visto, os alegráis al haber alcanzado la salvación de vuestras almas,t que es la meta de vuestra fe; y esa alegría vuestra es tan grande y gloriosa que no podéis expresarla con palabras.
10 Ya los profetas estudiaron e investigaron acerca de esta salvación, y hablaron de lo que Dios en su bondad os iba a dar.t 11 El Espíritu de Cristot hacía saber de antemano a los profetas lo que Cristo había de sufrir y la gloria que vendría después;t y ellos trataban de descubrir a qué persona y a qué tiempo se refería ese Espíritu que estaba en ellos. 12 Y Dios les hizo saber que lo que anunciaban no era para bien de ellos mismos, sino para vuestro bien. Ahora pues, esto os ha sido anunciado por los mismos que os predicaron el evangelio con el poder del Espíritu Santo enviado del cielo.t ¡Estas son cosas que los propios ángeles quisieran contemplar!
13 Por eso, estad preparados y usad de vuestro buen juicio. Poned toda vuestra esperanza en lo que Dios, en su bondad, va a daros cuando Jesucristo aparezca.1. La nueva vida en Cristo (1.14–2.10)
Llamados a una vida santa
14 Como hijos obedientes, no viváis conforme a los deseos que teníais antes de conocer a Dios.t 15 Al contrario, vivid de una manera completamente santa, porque Dios, que os llamó, es santo;
16 pues la Escritura dice: “Sed santos, porque yo soy santo.”t
17 Si llamáis “Padre”t a Dios, que juzga a cada cual según sus hechos y sin hacer diferencia entre unas personas y otras,t debéis mostrarle reverencia durante todo el tiempo que viváis en este mundo. 18 Pues Dios os ha rescatado de la vida sin sentidot que heredasteis de vuestros antepasados; y sabéis muy bien que el costo de este rescatet no se pagó con bienes corruptibles, como el oro o la plata, 19 sino con la sangre preciosa de Cristo,t ofrecido en sacrificio como un corderot sin defecto ni mancha. 20 Cristo había sido destinado para esto desde antes de la creación del mundo, pero en estos tiempos últimos ha aparecido para vuestro bien.
21 Por medio de Cristo, vosotros creéis en Dios, el cual le resucitó y le glorificó; así, vuestra fe y vuestra esperanza están puestas en Dios.
22 Ahora, al obedecer al mensaje de la verdad, habéis purificado vuestras almast para amar sinceramente a los hermanos. Amaos, pues, unos a otros con corazón puro y con todas vuestras fuerzas,t 23 pues habéis vuelto a nacer, y esta vez no de padres mortales, sino de la palabra de Dios, viva y permanente.
24 Porque la Escritura dice:
“Todo hombre es como hierba,
y su grandeza es como la flor de la hierba.
La hierba se seca y la flor se cae,
25 pero la palabra del Señor permanece para siempre.”t
Esta palabra es el evangelio que se os ha anunciado.

Salutation
1 From Peter,t an apostle of Jesus Christ, to those temporarily residingt abroadt (in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, the province of Asia,t and Bithynia) who are chosent
2 according to the foreknowledge of God the Father by being set apart by the Spirit for obedience and for sprinklings with Jesus Christ’s blood. May grace and peace be yours in full measure!t
New Birth to Joy and Holiness
3 Blessed bet the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy he gave us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,4 that is,t intot an inheritance imperishable, undefiled, and unfading. It is reserved in heaven for you,5 who by God’s power are protected through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.6 This brings you great joy,t although you may have to sufferst for a short time in various trials.7 Such trials show the proven character of your faith,ts which is much more valuable than gold – gold that is tested by fire, even though it is passing awayt – and will bring praiset and glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.t8 Yout have not seen him, but you love him. Yout do not see him now but you believe in him, and so you rejoicet with an indescribable and glorioust joy,
9 because you are attaining the goal of your faith – the salvation of your souls.
10 Concerning this salvation,t the prophetss who predicted the grace that would come to yout searched and investigated carefully.11 They probedt into what person or timets the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating when he testified beforehand about the sufferings appointed for Christt and his subsequent glory.t
12 They were shownt that they were serving not themselves but you, in regard to the things now announced to you through those who proclaimed the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven – things angels long to catch a glimpse of.
13 Therefore, get your minds ready for actiont by being fully sober, and set your hopet completely on the grace that will be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed.t14 Like obedient children, do not comply witht the evil urges you used to follow in your ignorance,t15 but, like the Holy One who called you, become holy yourselves in all of your conduct,16 for it is written, “You shall be holy, because I am holy.”s17 And if you address as Father the one who impartially judges according to each one’s work, live out the time of your temporary residence heret in reverence.18 You know that from your empty way of life inherited from your ancestors you were ransomed – not by perishable things like silver or gold,19 but by precious blood like that of an unblemished and spotless lamb, namely Christ.20 He was foreknownt before the foundation of the world butt was manifested in these last timest for your sake.
21 Through him you now trustst in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.
22 You have purifiedt your souls by obeying the truths in order to show sincere mutual love.t Sot love one another earnestly from a pure heart.s23 You have been born anew, not from perishable but from imperishable seed, through the living and enduring word of God.
24 For
all fleshsis like grass
and all its glory like the flower of the grass;t
the grass withers and the flower falls off,
25 but the word of the Lordsendures forever.s
And this is the word that was proclaimed to you.
