ペテロの第一の手紙

第1章

1 イエス・キリストの使徒ペテロから、ポント、ガラテヤ、カパドキヤ、アジヤおよびビテニヤに離散し寄留している人たち、2 すなわち、イエス・キリストに従い、かつ、その血のそそぎを受けるために、父なる神の予知されたところによって選ばれ、御霊のきよめにあずかっている人たちへ。恵みと平安とが、あなたがたに豊かに加わるように。3 ほむべきかな、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの父なる神。神は、その豊かなあわれみにより、イエス・キリストを死人の中からよみがえらせ、それにより、わたしたちを新たに生れさせて生ける望みをいだかせ、4 あなたがたのために天にたくわえてある、朽ちず汚れず、しぼむことのない資産を受け継ぐ者として下さったのである。5 あなたがたは、終りの時に啓示さるべき救にあずかるために、信仰により神の御力に守られているのである。6 そのことを思って、今しばらくのあいだは、さまざまな試錬で悩まねばならないかも知れないが、あなたがたは大いに喜んでいる。7 こうして、あなたがたの信仰はためされて、火で精錬されても朽ちる外はない金よりもはるかに尊いことが明らかにされ、イエス・キリストの現れるとき、さんびと栄光とほまれとに変るであろう。8 あなたがたは、イエス・キリストを見たことはないが、彼を愛している。現在、見てはいないけれども、信じて、言葉につくせない、輝きにみちた喜びにあふれている。9 それは、信仰の結果なるたましいの救を得ているからである。10 この救については、あなたがたに対する恵みのことを預言した預言者たちも、たずね求め、かつ、つぶさに調べた。11 彼らは、自分たちのうちにいますキリストの霊が、キリストの苦難とそれに続く栄光とを、あらかじめあかしした時、それは、いつの時、どんな場合をさしたのかを、調べたのである。12 そして、それらについて調べたのは、自分たちのためではなくて、あなたがたのための奉仕であることを示された。それらの事は、天からつかわされた聖霊に感じて福音をあなたがたに宣べ伝えた人々によって、今や、あなたがたに告げ知らされたのであるが、これは、御使たちも、うかがい見たいと願っている事である。13 それだから、心の腰に帯を締め、身を慎み、イエス・キリストの現れる時に与えられる恵みを、いささかも疑わずに待ち望んでいなさい。14 従順な子供として、無知であった時代の欲情に従わず、15 むしろ、あなたがたを召して下さった聖なるかたにならって、あなたがた自身も、あらゆる行いにおいて聖なる者となりなさい。16 聖書に、「わたしが聖なる者であるから、あなたがたも聖なる者になるべきである」と書いてあるからである。17 あなたがたは、人をそれぞれのしわざに応じて、公平にさばくかたを、父と呼んでいるからには、地上に宿っている間を、おそれの心をもって過ごすべきである。18 あなたがたのよく知っているとおり、あなたがたが先祖伝来の空疎な生活からあがない出されたのは、銀や金のような朽ちる物によったのではなく、19 きずも、しみもない小羊のようなキリストの尊い血によったのである。20 キリストは、天地が造られる前から、あらかじめ知られていたのであるが、この終りの時に至って、あなたがたのために現れたのである。21 あなたがたは、このキリストによって、彼を死人の中からよみがえらせて、栄光をお与えになった神を信じる者となったのであり、したがって、あなたがたの信仰と望みとは、神にかかっているのである。22 あなたがたは、真理に従うことによって、たましいをきよめ、偽りのない兄弟愛をいだくに至ったのであるから、互に心から熱く愛し合いなさい。23 あなたがたが新たに生れたのは、朽ちる種からではなく、朽ちない種から、すなわち、神の変ることのない生ける御言によったのである。24 「人はみな草のごとく、その栄華はみな草の花に似ている。草は枯れ、花は散る。25 しかし、主の言葉は、とこしえに残る」。これが、あなたがたに宣べ伝えられた御言葉である。

1 Peter 1

1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the elect who are sojourners of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,2 according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace be multiplied.3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy begat us again unto a living hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,4 unto an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,5 who by the power of God are guarded through faith unto a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.6 Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, ye have been put to grief in manifold trials,7 that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold that perisheth though it is proved by fire, may be found unto praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ:8 whom not having seen ye love; on whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice greatly with joy unspeakable and full of glory:9 receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.10 Concerning which salvation the prophets sought and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:11 searching what time or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did point unto, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glories that should follow them.12 To whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto you, did they minister these things, which now have been announced unto you through them that preached the gospel unto you by the Holy Spirit sent forth from heaven; which things angel desire to look into.13 Wherefore girding up the loins of your mind, be sober and set your hope perfectly on the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;14 as children of obedience, not fashioning yourselves according to your former lusts in the time of your ignorance:15 but like as he who called you is holy, be ye yourselves also holy in all manner of living;16 because it is written, Ye shall be holy; for I am holy.17 And if ye call on him as Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to each man’s work, pass the time of your sojourning in fear:18 knowing that ye were redeemed, not with corruptible things, with silver or gold, from your vain manner of life handed down from your fathers;19 but with precious blood, as of a lamb without spot, even the blood of Christ:20 who was foreknown indeed before the foundation of the world, but was manifested at the end of times for your sake,21 who through him are believers in God, that raised him from the dead, and gave him glory; so that your faith and hope might be in God.22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in your obedience to the truth unto unfeigned love of the brethren, love one another from the heart fervently:23 having been begotten again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, through the word of God, which liveth and abideth.24 For, All flesh is as grass, And all the glory thereof as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower falleth:25 But the word of the Lord abideth for ever. And this is the word of good tidings which was preached unto you.
