ペテロの第一の手紙 1

一

1 イエス・キリストの宣教者ペテロから、エルサレムを追われて、ポント、ガラテヤ、カパドキヤ、アジヤ、ビテニヤの各地方に分散したユダヤ人のクリスチャンへ。
2 愛する皆さん。　父なる神は、ずっと昔からあなたがたを選び、自分の子供にしようと、決めておられました。　そして、聖霊様の働きかけにより、あなたがたの心は、イエス・キリストの血によってきよめられ、神様に喜ばれるものと変わったのです。　どうか、神様があなたがたを祝福し、すべての不安と恐れから、解放してくださいますように。
3 主イエス・キリストの父なる神こそ、すべての賞賛を受けるにふさわしい方です。　私たちは、神様の測り知れないあわれみによって、新しく生まれ変わる特権を与えられ、今では神様の家族の一員として、迎えられたのです。　キリスト様が死人の中から復活してくださったおかげで、私たちは永遠のいのちの希望にあふれています。　4 神様は自分の子供たちのために、お金では買えない永遠のいのちを贈る、と約束してくださいました。　それは純粋で、しみ一つない完全な状態で、天に保管されており、絶対に変質したり、腐敗したりしません。　5 神様は超自然的な力によって、あなたがたが、まちがいなく天で永遠のいのちをいただけるよう、守ってくださいます。　あなたがたが、神様を信じているからです。　やがて来る終わりの日に、この永遠のいのちは、あなたがたのものとして、だれの目にも、はっきり示されるでしょう。　6 ですから、心から喜びなさい。　今しばらくの間、地上での苦しみが続きますが、行く手には、すばらしい喜びが待ち受けているからです。
7 これらの試練は、あなたがたの信仰をテストするためにあるのです。　それによって、信仰が、どれほど強く、純粋であるかが量られます。　それはちょうど、金が火によって精錬され、不純物が取り除かれるのに似ています。　しかも神様には、あなたがたの信仰は、金などより、はるかに貴重なのです。　ですから、信仰が火のような試練のるつぼの中で鍛えられ、なお強化されるなら、あなたがたは、イエス・キリストの再び来られる日に、多くの賞賛と栄光と名誉とを、受けることになるでしょう。
8 あなたがたは、イエス・キリストに一度も会ったことがないのに、愛しています。　今、姿を見ているわけでもないのに、信じています。　地上に生きている今も、天からの、ことばに表わせない喜びに満たされ、幸福感に浸っているのです。　9 それだけではありません。　主を信じれば、たましいの救いが与えられるのです。
10 この救いについては、預言者も完全に知っていたわけではありません。　救いの預言はしましたが、それが実際には何を意味しているのか、自分でも、よくわからなかったのです。　11 心の中のキリスト様の霊が、何を語っておられるのか、納得できませんでした。　聖霊様は、やがてキリスト様の身にふりかかる苦難と、それに続く大きな栄光とを書きとめるように、命じられたのです。　彼らは、いったいそれが、いつ、だれに実現するのだろう、といぶかったのです。
12 彼らは、これらが自分たちの時代にではなく、ずっとあとに、すなわち、この時代に実現することを、あとになって知らされました。　そして今やついに、このすばらしい知らせは、私たち全員に、はっきり告げ知らされたのです。　これは、預言者に語られた時と同様、天から遣わされた聖霊様の力によって、伝えられたのでした。　それは、またとない、すばらしいものだったので、天の御使いでさえ、何とかして知りたいと願ったほどでした。　13 そういうわけですから、あなたがたは、イエス・キリストが再び来られる時を、これまで以上の恵みを期待して、真剣に、身を慎んで、ひたすら待ち望むことができるのです。
14 あなたがたは、神様の子供なのですから、神様に従いなさい。　何も知らずに悪事を重ねた昔の生活に、舞い戻ってはいけません。　15 かえって、子供として招いてくださった、きよい神様にならい、あらゆる点できよい行ないをしなさい。　16 主みずから、「わたしはきよい者であるから、あなたがたも、きよくなければならない」と言われました。
17 あなたがたが祈りをささげる天の父なる神は、公平な方で、さばきの時に、決してえこひいきなどなさいません。　人の行ないをすべて、正しく公平にさばかれます。　ですから、天に行くその日まで、主を恐れ、慎み深く生活しなさい。　18 神様は、あなたがたの先祖が、天国へ行こうとして迷い込み、むなしい努力を重ねた迷路から、あなたがたを救い出すために、身の代金を支払ってくださいました。　ありきたりの金や銀を積まれたのではありません。　19 一点の罪も、しみもない神様の小羊、キリスト様の尊い血が支払われたのです。　20 神様はこのために、世の始まる前から、キリスト様を選んでおられました。　そして、この終わりの時代に、あなたがたへの祝福として、だれの目にも見える形で、キリスト様を遣わされたのです。
21 こういうわけで、キリスト様を死人の中から復活させ、栄光をお与えになった神様を、心から信頼してまちがいありません。　あなたがたの信仰と希望とは、ただ神様にかかっているのです。　22 今や、キリスト様を信じたあなたがたは、たましいが利己心と憎しみからきよめられたので、だれをも、真実に愛することができます。　ですから、互いに心から熱く愛し合いなさい。
23 あなたがたには、新しいいのちがあります。　そのいのちは、両親から受け継いだものではありません。　両親がくれた肉体のいのちは、やがて朽ち果てますが、新しいいのちは永遠に続きます。　このいのちは、今も生きて働く神様のことばであるキリスト様から出ているのです。　24 生まれながらの古いいのちは、枯れてしまう草のようです。　どんな栄誉も、やがてはしぼみ、散っていく花と同じです。　25 しかし、主のことばは、いつまでも変わりなく続きます。　これこそ、あなたがたへの良い知らせです。

1 Peter 1

1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the elect who are sojourners of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,2 according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace be multiplied.3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his great mercy begat us again unto a living hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,4 unto an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,5 who by the power of God are guarded through faith unto a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.6 Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, ye have been put to grief in manifold trials,7 that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold that perisheth though it is proved by fire, may be found unto praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ:8 whom not having seen ye love; on whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice greatly with joy unspeakable and full of glory:9 receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.10 Concerning which salvation the prophets sought and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:11 searching what time or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did point unto, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glories that should follow them.12 To whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto you, did they minister these things, which now have been announced unto you through them that preached the gospel unto you by the Holy Spirit sent forth from heaven; which things angel desire to look into.13 Wherefore girding up the loins of your mind, be sober and set your hope perfectly on the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;14 as children of obedience, not fashioning yourselves according to your former lusts in the time of your ignorance:15 but like as he who called you is holy, be ye yourselves also holy in all manner of living;16 because it is written, Ye shall be holy; for I am holy.17 And if ye call on him as Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to each man’s work, pass the time of your sojourning in fear:18 knowing that ye were redeemed, not with corruptible things, with silver or gold, from your vain manner of life handed down from your fathers;19 but with precious blood, as of a lamb without spot, even the blood of Christ:20 who was foreknown indeed before the foundation of the world, but was manifested at the end of times for your sake,21 who through him are believers in God, that raised him from the dead, and gave him glory; so that your faith and hope might be in God.22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in your obedience to the truth unto unfeigned love of the brethren, love one another from the heart fervently:23 having been begotten again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, through the word of God, which liveth and abideth.24 For, All flesh is as grass, And all the glory thereof as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower falleth:25 But the word of the Lord abideth for ever. And this is the word of good tidings which was preached unto you.
