El nuevo pueblo de Dios
1 Por lo tanto, abandonad toda clase de maldad, todo engaño, hipocresía y envidia, y toda murmuración. 2 Como niños recién nacidos, buscad con ansia la leche espiritualt pura, para que por medio de ella crezcáis y tengáis salvación,
3 si es que realmente os habéis percatado de que el Señor es bueno.tCristo, la piedra viva
4 Acercaos, pues, al Señor, la piedra viva que los hombres despreciaron, pero que para Dios es piedra escogida y de mucho valor.t 5 De esta manera, Dios hará de vosotros, como de piedras vivas, un templo espiritual, un sacerdocio santo que por medio de Jesucristo ofrezca sacrificios espirituales, agradables a Dios.t
6 Por eso dice la Escritura:
“Yo pongo en Siónt una piedra
que es la piedra principal,
escogida y muy valiosa;
quien confía en ellat no quedará defraudado.”t
7 Para vosotros, los creyentes, esa piedra es de mucho valor; en cambio, para los que no creen se cumple lo que dice la Escritura:
“La piedra que los constructores despreciaron
se ha convertido en la piedra principal.”t
8 Y también esto otro:
“Una roca, una piedra en la cual tropezarán”,t
pues ellos tropiezan al no hacer caso del mensaje; tal es su destino.t
9 Pero vosotros sois una familia escogida,t un sacerdocio al servicio del Rey, una nación santa,t un pueblo adquirido por Dios,t destinado a anunciar las obras maravillosas de Dios,t que os llamó a salir de la oscuridad y entrar en su luz maravillosa.t
10 Antes, ni siquiera erais pueblo, pero ahora sois pueblo de Dios; antes Dios no os tenía compasión, pero ahora tiene compasión de vosotros.t2. Deberes del cristiano (2.11–4.6)
El buen ejemplo
11 Queridos hermanos, os ruego, como a extranjeros de paso por este mundo,t que no deis lugar a los deseos humanos que luchan contra el alma.
12 Conducíos bien entre los que no conocen a Dios. Así ellos, aunque ahora hablen contra vosotros como si fuerais malhechores, verán el bien que hacéis y alabarán a Diost el día en que él pida cuentas a todos.tLa sumisión a la autoridad humana
13 Por causa del Señor, someteos a toda autoridad humana: sea al emperador, como la más alta autoridad, 14 sea a los gobernantest que Dios envía para castigar a los malhechores y honrar a los que hacen el bien.t
15 Porque Dios quiere que hagáis el bien, para que los ignorantes y los tontos no tengan nada que decir en contra vuestra.
16 Portaos como personas libres, aunque sin usar vuestra libertad como un pretexto para hacer lo malo. Portaos más bien como siervos de Dios.t
17 Dad a todos el debido respeto. Amad a los hermanos, reverenciad a Dios, respetad al emperador.Deberes de los sirvientes
18 Sirvientes,t someteos con todo respeto a vuestros amos; no solamente a los buenos y comprensivos, sino también a los malos. 19 Porque buena cosa est que uno soporte sufrimientos injustamente, por sentido de responsabilidad delante de Dios. 20 Porque si os castigaran por haber hecho algo malo, ¿qué mérito tendría que lo soportarais con paciencia? Pero si sufrís por haber hecho el bien, y soportáis con paciencia el sufrimiento, eso es bueno delante de Dios.t 21 Para esto os ha llamado Dios, ya que Cristo sufrió por vosotrost dándoos un ejemplo para que sigáis sus pasos.t 22 Cristo no cometió ningún pecado ni engañó jamás a nadie.t 23 Cuando le insultaban, no contestaba con insultos; cuando le hacían sufrir, no amenazaba, sino que se encomendaba a Dios, que juzga con rectitud.t 24 Él mismo llevó nuestros pecados en su cuerpo sobre la cruz,t para que nosotros muramos al pecado y vivamos una vida de rectitud.t Cristo fue herido para que vosotros fuerais sanados.t 25 Antes andabais como ovejas extraviadas,t pero ahora habéis vuelto a Cristo, que os cuida como un pastor y vela por vosotros.t

1 So get rid oft all evil and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander.2 Andt yearnt like newborn infants for pure, spiritual milk,t so that by it you may grow up tot salvation,s
3 if you have experiencedtthe Lord’s kindness.s
A Living Stone, a Chosen People
4 So as you come to him,t a living stone rejected by men butt chosen and pricelesst in God’s sight,5 you yourselves, as living stones, are built up as a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood and to offert spiritual sacrifices that are acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.6 For it sayst in scripture, “Look, I lay in Zion a stone, a chosen and priceless cornerstone,tand whoever believestin himtwill nevertbe put to shame.”s7 So you who believe seet his value,t but for those who do not believe, the stone that the builders rejected has become thetcornerstone,s8 and a stumbling-stonetand a rock to trip over.s They stumblet because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.t9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of his own, so that you may proclaim the virtuess of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
10 Yout once were not a people, but now you are God’s people. You were shown no mercy,s but now you have received mercy.
11 Dear friends, I urge you as foreigners and exiles to keep away from fleshly desires that do battle against the soul,
12 and maintain good conductt among the non-Christians,t so that thought they now malign you as wrongdoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God when he appears.t
Submission to Authorities
13 Be subject to every human institutiont for the Lord’s sake, whether to a king as supreme14 or to governors as those he commissionst to punish wrongdoers and praiset those who do good.15 For God wants yout to silence the ignorance of foolish people by doing good.16 Livet as free people, not using your freedom as a pretext for evil, but as God’s slaves.ts
17 Honor all people, love the family of believers,t fear God, honor the king.
18 Slaves,t be subjectt to your masters with all reverence, not only to those who are good and gentle, but also to those who are perverse.19 For this finds God’s favor,t if because of conscience toward Godst someone endures hardships in suffering unjustly.20 For what credit is it if you sin and are mistreated and endure it? But if you do good and suffer and so endure, this finds favor with God.t21 For to this you were called, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving an example for you to follow in his steps.22 Hetcommitted no sin nor was deceit found in his mouth.s23 When he was maligned, het did not answer back; when he suffered, he threatenedt no retaliation,s but committed himself to Godt who judges justly.24 Hethimself bore our sinss in his body on the tree, that we may cease from sinningt and live for righteousness. By histwoundstyou were healed.s
25 For you were going astray like sheeps but now you have turned back to the shepherd and guardian of your souls.
