اول پِطرُس 2

1 پس هر نوع کینه، و هر گونه مکر و ریا و حسد، و هر قسم بدگویی را از خود برانید2 و همچون نوزادگان، مشتاق شیر خالصِ روحانی باشید تا به‌مدد آن در نجات خود نمو کنید،3 حال که چشیده‌اید خداوند مهربانt است.

سنگ زنده و قوم برگزیده

4 با نزدیک شدن به او، یعنی به آن سنگ زنده که آدمیان رد کرده‌اند امّا نزد خدا برگزیده و گرانبهاست،5 شما نیز چون سنگهای زنده به‌صورت عمارتی روحانی بنا می‌شوید تا کاهنانی مقدّس باشید و به‌واسطۀ عیسی مسیح، قربانیهای روحانی مقبول خدا را بگذرانید.6 زیرا در کتب مقدّس آمده است که:
«هان در صهیون سنگی می‌نهم،
سنگ زیربنایی برگزیده و گرانبها؛
آن که بر او توکّل کند
سرافکنده نگردد.»7 این سنگ برای شما که ایمان آورده‌اید، گرانبهاست؛ امّا آنان را که ایمان نیاورده‌اند،
«همان سنگی که معماران رد کردند
سنگ اصلی بناt شده است،»

8 و نیز،
«سنگی که سبب لغزش شود،
و صخره‌ای که موجب سقوط گردد.»
اینان می‌لغزند چون کلام را فرمان نمی‌برند، که این بر ایشان مقدّر گشته است.9 امّا شما ملتی برگزیده و کاهنانی هستید که پادشاهند؛ شما امّتی مقدّس و قومی متعلق به خدایید، تا فضایل او را اعلام کنید که شما را از تاریکی به نور حیرت‌انگیز خود فراخوانده است.10 پیش از این قومی نبودید، امّا اکنون قوم خدایید؛ زمانی از رحمت محروم بودید، امّا اکنون رحمت یافته‌اید.11 ای عزیزان، از شما تمنا دارم چون کسانی که در این جهان بیگانه و غریبند، از امیال نفسانی که با روح شما در ستیزند، بپرهیزید.12 کردارتان در میان بی‌ایمانان چنان پسندیده باشد که هر چند شما را به بدکاری متهم کنند، با مشاهدۀ اعمال نیکتان، خدا را در روز دیدارش، تمجید نمایند.

اطاعت از صاحبان قدرت

13 به‌خاطر خداوند، تسلیم هر منصبی باشید که در میان انسانها مقرر گشته است، خواه پادشاه که مافوق همه است،14 و خواه والیان، که مأمور اویند تا بدکاران را کیفر دهند و نیکوکاران را تحسین کنند.15 زیرا خواست خدا این است که با کردار نیک خود، جهالت مردم نادان را خاموش سازید.16 همچون آزادگان زندگی کنید، امّا آزادی خود را پوششی برای شرارت مسازید، بلکه چون غلامانt خدا زندگی کنید.17 همگان را حرمت بدارید، برادران را محبت کنید، از خدا بترسید و به پادشاه احترام بگذارید.18 ای غلامان، با کمال احترام تسلیم اربابان خود باشید، تنها ‌نه تسلیم نیکان و مهربانان، بلکه کج‌خُلقان نیز.19 زیرا شایان تقدیر است که کسی از آن‌رو که چشم بر خدا دارد، چون به ناحق رنج کشد، دردها را بر خود هموار سازد.20 امّا اگر به‌سبب کار خلاف تنبیه شوید و تحمّل کنید، چه جای فخر است؟ حال آنکه اگر نیکویی کنید و در عوض رنج ببینید و تحمّل کنید، نزد خدا پسندیده است.21 چه، برای همین فراخوانده شده‌اید، زیرا مسیح برای شما رنج کشید و سرمشقی گذاشت تا بر آثار قدمهای وی پا نهید.22 «او هیچ گناه نکرد،
و فریبی بر زبانش یافت نشد.»23 چون دشنامش دادند، دشنام پس نداد؛ و آنگاه که رنج کشید، تهدید نکرد، بلکه خود را به دست داور عادل سپرد.24 او گناهان ما را در بدن خویش بر دارt حمل کرد، تا برای گناهان بمیریم و برای پارسایی زیست کنیم، همان که به زخمهایش شفا یافته‌اید.25 زیرا همچون گوسفندانی گم‌گشته از راه بودید، امّا اکنون به‌سوی شبان و ناظر جانهایتان بازگشته‌اید.

A Living Stone and //a Holy Nation

1 Stop being hateful! Quit trying to fool people, and start being sincere. Don't be jealous or say cruel things about others. 2 Be like newborn babies who are thirsty for the pure spiritual milk that will help you grow and be saved.

3 t You have already found out how good the Lord really is.
4 Come to Jesus Christ. He is the living stone people have rejected, but which God has chosen and highly honored. 5 And now you are living stones being used to build a spiritual house. You are also a group of holy priests, and with the help of Jesus Christ you will offer sacrifices that please God.

6 t It is just as God says in the Scriptures,
“Look! I am placing in Zion
a choice and precious
cornerstone.
No one who has faith
in this one
will be disappointed.”
7  t You are followers of the Lord, and this stone is precious to you. But it isn't precious to those who refuse to follow him. They are the builders who tossed aside the stone that turned out to be the most important one of all.

8 t They disobeyed the message and stumbled and fell over this stone, because they were doomed.

9  t But you are God's chosen and special people. You are a group of royal priests and a holy nation. God has brought you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Now you must tell all the wonderful things he has done. The Scriptures say,

10  t “Once you were nobody.
Now you are God's people.
At one time no one
had mercy on you.
Now God has treated you
with kindness.”

Live as God's Servants Should

12 Always let others see you behaving properly, even though they may still accuse you of doing wrong. Then on the day of judgment, they will honor God by telling the good things they saw you do.
13 The Lord wants you to obey all human authorities, especially the Emperor, who rules over everyone. 14 You must also obey governors, because they are sent by the Emperor to punish criminals and to praise good citizens. 15 God wants you to silence stupid and ignorant people by doing right. 16 You are free, but still you are God's servants, and you must not use your freedom as an excuse for doing wrong.

17 Respect everyone and show special love for God's people. Honor God and respect the Emperor.

The Example of //Christ's Suffering

21 After all, God chose you to suffer as you follow in the footsteps of Christ, who set an example by suffering for you.

22  t Christ did not sin
or ever tell a lie.

23  t Although he was abused,
he never tried to get even.
And when he suffered,
he made no threats.
Instead, he had faith in God,
who judges fairly.

24  t Christ carried the burden
of our sins.
He was nailed to the cross,
so we would stop sinning
and start living right.
By his cuts and bruises
you are healed.

25 You had wandered away
like sheep.
Now you have returned
to the one
who is your shepherd
and protector.
