Deberes conyugales

1 Igualmente vosotras, mujeres, someteos a vuestros maridos;t y así, si alguno de ellos no cree en el mensaje, podrá ser convencido, sin necesidad de palabras, por vuestro comportamiento, 2 al ver vuestra conducta pura y respetuosa. 3 Que vuestro adorno no consista en cosas externas, como peinados ostentosos, joyas de oro o vestidos lujosos, 4 sino en lo íntimo del corazón, en la belleza incorruptible de un espíritu suave y tranquilo. Esta belleza vale mucho delante de Dios.t 5 Ese era también, en tiempos antiguos, el adorno de las mujeres santas: confiaban en Dios y se sometían a sus maridos. 6 Así fue Sara, que obedeció a Abraham y lo llamó “mi señor”.t Y vosotras sois hijas de ella, si hacéis el bien y no tenéis miedo por nada.

7 En cuanto a vosotros, los maridos, sed comprensivos con vuestras mujeres.t Dadles el honor que les corresponde, no solamente porque la mujer es más delicada, sino también porque Dios, en su bondad, les ha prometido la misma vida que a vosotros. Hacedlo así para que nada estorbe vuestras oraciones.

Deberes de todos los cristianos

10 Porque:
“Quien quiera amar la vida
y pasar días felices,
cuide su lengua de hablar mal
y sus labios de decir mentiras;

11 aléjese del mal y haga el bien,
busque la paz y sígala.

12 Porque el Señor cuida a los justos
y presta oído a sus oraciones,
pero está en contra de los malhechores.”t
13 ¿Quién podrá haceros daño, si vosotros os empeñáis siempre en hacer el bien? 14 Pero incluso si por actuar con rectitud habéis de sufrir, ¡dichosos vosotros!t No tengáis miedo a nadiet ni os asustéis, 15 sino honrad a Cristo, como Señor, en vuestros corazones.t Estad siempre preparados para responder a cualquiera que os pida razón de la esperanza que tenéis, 16 pero hacedlo con humildad y respeto. Portaos de tal modo que tengáis tranquila la conciencia, para que quienes hablan mal de vuestra buena conducta como creyentes en Cristo, se avergüencen de sus propias palabras. 17 Es mejor sufrir por hacer el bien, si así lo quiere Dios, que por hacer el mal. 18 Porque Cristo mismo sufrió la muerte por nuestros pecados, una vez para siempre.t Él era inocente, pero sufrió por los malos, para llevaros a Dios. Como ser humano murió, pero como ser espiritualt volvió a la vida. 19 Entonces como ser espiritual fue y predicó a los espíritus que estaban presos.t 20 Estos habían sido desobedientes en tiempos antiguos,t en los días de Noé, cuando Dios esperaba con paciencia mientras se construía el arca, en la que algunas personas, ocho en total, fueron salvadas por medio del agua.t 21 Aquella agua era representación del agua del bautismo que ahora os salvat (un bautismo que no consiste en limpiar el cuerpo, sino en pedirle a Dios una conciencia limpia);t y os salva por la resurrección de Jesucristo,t 22 que subió al cielo y está a la derecha de Dios,t y a quien han quedado sujetos los ángeles y demás seres espiritualest que tienen autoridad y poder.t

Wives and Husbands

1 In the same way, wives, be subject to your own husbands. Then,t even if some are disobedient to the word, they will be won over without a word by the way you live,t2 when they see your pure and reverent conduct.t3 Let yourt beautyt not be external – the braiding of hair and wearing of gold jewelryt or fine clothes –4 but the inner persont of the heart, the lasting beauty of a gentle and tranquil spirit, which is precious in God’s sight.5 For in the same way the holy women who hoped in God long ago adorned themselves by being subject to their husbands,6 like Sarah who obeyedt Abraham, calling him lord. You become her childrent when you do what is good and have no fear in doing so.t

7 Husbands, in the same way, treat your wives with consideration as the weaker partnerst and show them honor as fellow heirs of the grace of life. In this way nothing will hinder your prayers.t

Suffering for Doing Good

8 Finally, all of you be harmonious,t sympathetic, affectionate, compassionate, and humble.9 Do not return evil for evil or insult for insult, but instead blesst otherst because you were called to inherit a blessing.

10 For
the one who wants to love life and see good days must keepthis tongue from evil and his lips from uttering deceit.

11 And he must turn away from evil and do good;
he must seek peace and pursue it.

12 For the eyes of the Lord aretupon the righteous and his ears are open to their prayer.
But the Lord’s face is against those who do evil.s
13 Fort who is going to harm you if you are devoted to what is good?14 But in fact, if you happen to suffers for doing what is right,t you are blessed. But do not be terrified of themtor be shaken.s15 But set Christs apartt as Lord in your hearts and always be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks about the hope you possess.t16 Yet do it with courtesy and respect,t keeping a good conscience, so that those who slander your good conduct in Christ may be put to shame when they accuse you.t

17 For it is better to suffer for doing good, if God wills it,t than for doing evil.

18 s Because Christ also suffereds once for sins,
the just for the unjust,s
to bring you to God,
by being put to death in the flesh
butt by being made alive in the spirit.s

19 In itt he went and preached to the spirits in prison,s
20 after they were disobedient long agot when God patiently waitedt in the days of Noah as an ark was being constructed. In the arkt a few, that is eight souls, were delivered through water.21 And this prefigured baptism, which now saves yout – not the washing off of physical dirtt but the pledget of a good conscience to God – through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

22 who went into heaven and is at the right hand of Godt with angels and authorities and powers subject to him.t
