1 Peter 3

第3章

1 同じように、妻たる者よ。夫に仕えなさい。そうすれば、たとい御言に従わない夫であっても、2 あなたがたのうやうやしく清い行いを見て、その妻の無言の行いによって、救に入れられるようになるであろう。3 あなたがたは、髪を編み、金の飾りをつけ、服装をととのえるような外面の飾りではなく、4 かくれた内なる人、柔和で、しとやかな霊という朽ちることのない飾りを、身につけるべきである。これこそ、神のみまえに、きわめて尊いものである。5 むかし、神を仰ぎ望んでいた聖なる女たちも、このように身を飾って、その夫に仕えたのである。6 たとえば、サラはアブラハムに仕えて、彼を主と呼んだ。あなたがたも、何事にもおびえ臆することなく善を行えば、サラの娘たちとなるのである。7 夫たる者よ。あなたがたも同じように、女は自分よりも弱い器であることを認めて、知識に従って妻と共に住み、いのちの恵みを共どもに受け継ぐ者として、尊びなさい。それは、あなたがたの祈が妨げられないためである。8 最後に言う。あなたがたは皆、心をひとつにし、同情し合い、兄弟愛をもち、あわれみ深くあり、謙虚でありなさい。9 悪をもって悪に報いず、悪口をもって悪口に報いず、かえって、祝福をもって報いなさい。あなたがたが召されたのは、祝福を受け継ぐためなのである。10 「いのちを愛し、さいわいな日々を過ごそうと願う人は、舌を制して悪を言わず、くちびるを閉じて偽りを語らず、11 悪を避けて善を行い、平和を求めて、これを追え。12 主の目は義人たちに注がれ、主の耳は彼らの祈にかたむく。しかし主の御顔は、悪を行う者に対して向かう」。13 そこで、もしあなたがたが善に熱心であれば、だれが、あなたがたに危害を加えようか。14 しかし、万一義のために苦しむようなことがあっても、あなたがたはさいわいである。彼らを恐れたり、心を乱したりしてはならない。15 ただ、心の中でキリストを主とあがめなさい。また、あなたがたのうちにある望みについて説明を求める人には、いつでも弁明のできる用意をしていなさい。16 しかし、やさしく、慎み深く、明らかな良心をもって、弁明しなさい。そうすれば、あなたがたがキリストにあって営んでいる良い生活をそしる人々も、そのようにののしったことを恥じいるであろう。17 善をおこなって苦しむことは-それが神の御旨であれば-悪をおこなって苦しむよりも、まさっている。18 キリストも、あなたがたを神に近づけようとして、自らは義なるかたであるのに、不義なる人々のために、ひとたび罪のゆえに死なれた。ただし、肉においては殺されたが、霊においては生かされたのである。19 こうして、彼は獄に捕われている霊どものところに下って行き、宣べ伝えることをされた。20 これらの霊というのは、むかしノアの箱舟が造られていた間、神が寛容をもって待っておられたのに従わなかった者どものことである。その箱舟に乗り込み、水を経て救われたのは、わずかに八名だけであった。21 この水はバプテスマを象徴するものであって、今やあなたがたをも救うのである。それは、イエス・キリストの復活によるのであって、からだの汚れを除くことではなく、明らかな良心を神に願い求めることである。22 キリストは天に上って神の右に座し、天使たちともろもろの権威、権力を従えておられるのである。

1 Peter 3

1 In like manner, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, even if any obey not the word, they may without the word be gained by the behavior of their wives;2 beholding your chaste behavior coupled with fear.3 Whose adorning let it not be the outward adorning of braiding the hair, and of wearing jewels of gold, or of putting on apparel;4 but let it be the hidden man of the heart, in the incorruptible apparel of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.5 For after this manner aforetime the holy women also, who hoped in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection to their own husbands:6 as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose children ye now are, if ye do well, and are not put in fear by any terror.7 Ye husbands, in like manner, dwell with your wives according to knowledge, giving honor unto the woman, as unto the weaker vessel, as being also joint-heirs of the grace of life; to the end that your prayers be not hindered.8 Finally, be ye all likeminded, compassionate, loving as brethren, tenderhearted, humbleminded:9 not rendering evil for evil, or reviling for reviling; but contrariwise blessing; for hereunto were ye called, that ye should inherit a blessing.10 For, He that would love life, And see good days, Let him refrain his tongue from evil, And his lips that they speak no guile:

11 And let him turn away from evil, and do good; Let him seek peace, and pursue it.

12 For the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, And his ears unto their supplication: But the face of the Lord is upon them that do evil.

13 And who is he that will harm you, if ye be zealous of that which is good?14 But even if ye should suffer for righteousness’ sake, blessed are ye: and fear not their fear, neither be troubled;15 but sanctify in your hearts Christ as Lord: being ready always to give answer to every man that asketh you a reason concerning the hope that is in you, yet with meekness and fear:16 having a good conscience; that, wherein ye are spoken against, they may be put to shame who revile your good manner of life in Christ.17 For it is better, if the will of God should so will, that ye suffer for well-doing than for evil-doing.18 Because Christ also suffered for sins once, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God; being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit;19 in which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison,20 that aforetime were disobedient, when the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water:21 which also after a true likeness doth now save you, even baptism, not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the interrogation of a good conscience toward God, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ;22 who is on the right hand of God, having gone into heaven; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.
