ペテロの第一の手紙 3

三

1-2 妻は夫に歩調を合わせなさい。　そうすれば、今は、あなたがたが語る主のことばに耳を傾けようとしない夫であっても、その敬虔な態度に打たれて、やがては信仰を持つようになるからです。　神様を敬う生活は、どんなことばよりも影響力があります。
3 宝石や、ぜいたくな着物や、ヘアスタイルなどで、外見を美しく見せようと夢中になってはいけません。　4 むしろ、やさしく、おだやかな心の持ち主となり、いつまでも色あせのしない魅力で、内面を美しく飾りなさい。　これこそ、神様の目に価値あるものです。　5 このように崇高な美しさを、昔の敬虔な婦人たちは身につけていました。　心から神様を信じ、夫に歩調を合わせていたのです。
6 たとえばサラは、夫アブラハムを一家の主人として尊敬し、従いました。　このサラに見ならいなさい。　そうすれば、サラの信仰を受け継ぎ、正しい行ないをすることになるのです。　これで、夫のきげんを損ねる心配もなくなるでしょう。
7 同様に、夫も、妻を心にかけてやりなさい。　いつも妻の気持ちを察し、女が男よりも弱い者であることを意識して、いたわってやりなさい。　神様の祝福は、妻と共に受け継ぐべきものだと心得なさい。　もし妻に対する態度が誤っていれば、あなたがたの祈りは、むなしくなってしまいます。
8 さて、あなたがた一同に言っておきます。　お互いに家族の一員として、心から思いやりなさい。　やさしい心と、謙そんな思いで愛し合いなさい。　9 害を受けたからといって、仕返しをするのはやめなさい。　侮辱されたからといって、口ぎたなく、ののしり返してはいけません。　かえって、その人のために、神様の助けを祈り求めなさい。　だれに対しても親切にしなさい。　そうすれば、神様から祝福していただけます。
10 幸福で正しい生涯を送りたいなら、舌を制し、くちびるからうそが出ないようにしなさい。　11 悪から遠ざかって、善を行ないなさい。　平和な生涯を送りたいと願うなら、熱心に追い求めて、手に入れなさい。　12 主は常に、自分の子供たちを見守り、その祈りに耳を傾けてくださいます。　しかし、悪事を働く者には、主のきびしい顔が向けられているのです。
13 善を行ないたいと願うあなたがたに、だれが害を加えるでしょう。　14 かりに、そのような事があっても、かえって、うらやましがられるでしょう。　神様があなたがたに報いてくださるからです。　15 心を動揺させないで、ただ主キリスト様を信じなさい。　もしだれかに、「なぜキリスト様を信じるのか」と尋ねられたら、いつでもその理由を話せるようにしていなさい。　それも、おだやかに、親切な態度で説明すべきです。
16 正しいことを行ないなさい。　そうすれば、悪者呼ばわりする人たちも、やがては、あなたがたの正しい生き方に気づいて、自分たちの行為を恥じるでしょう。　17 いいですか。　あなたがたが苦しむことが神様の望みであれば、悪いことをして苦しみを受けるよりも、正しいことをして苦しみを受けるほうが、はるかにいいのです。
18 キリスト様も苦しまれました。　一度も罪を犯したことのない、潔白な方であったにもかかわらず、私たち罪人のために一たび死なれたのです。　それは、私たちを確実に神様のもとに導くためでした。　キリスト様の体は死にましたが、その霊は生きて、　19 牢獄につながれている霊を訪ね、神様のことばを伝えました。　20 これらの霊とは、ずっと昔の、ノアの時代の者たちを指します。　彼らは、ノアが箱舟を造っている間、神様が忍耐して待っておられたにもかかわらず、神様のことばを拒否しました。　結局、当時の大洪水から助かったのは、たったの八人でした。　21 〔このことから、バプテスマ（洗礼）が、ありありと浮かんでくるではありませんか。　私たちの受けるバプテスマは、キリスト様の復活による、死と滅びの運命からの救出を意味します。　それは、体が水できれいに洗われるからではなく、バプテスマを受けることによって、神様に立ち返った私たちが、心が罪からきよめられるようにと願うからです。〕　22 今、キリスト様は天で、神様の次に名誉ある座につき、すべての御使いと天の軍勢を従えておられます。

1 Peter 3

1 In like manner, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, even if any obey not the word, they may without the word be gained by the behavior of their wives;2 beholding your chaste behavior coupled with fear.3 Whose adorning let it not be the outward adorning of braiding the hair, and of wearing jewels of gold, or of putting on apparel;4 but let it be the hidden man of the heart, in the incorruptible apparel of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.5 For after this manner aforetime the holy women also, who hoped in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection to their own husbands:6 as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose children ye now are, if ye do well, and are not put in fear by any terror.7 Ye husbands, in like manner, dwell with your wives according to knowledge, giving honor unto the woman, as unto the weaker vessel, as being also joint-heirs of the grace of life; to the end that your prayers be not hindered.8 Finally, be ye all likeminded, compassionate, loving as brethren, tenderhearted, humbleminded:9 not rendering evil for evil, or reviling for reviling; but contrariwise blessing; for hereunto were ye called, that ye should inherit a blessing.10 For, He that would love life, And see good days, Let him refrain his tongue from evil, And his lips that they speak no guile:

11 And let him turn away from evil, and do good; Let him seek peace, and pursue it.

12 For the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, And his ears unto their supplication: But the face of the Lord is upon them that do evil.

13 And who is he that will harm you, if ye be zealous of that which is good?14 But even if ye should suffer for righteousness’ sake, blessed are ye: and fear not their fear, neither be troubled;15 but sanctify in your hearts Christ as Lord: being ready always to give answer to every man that asketh you a reason concerning the hope that is in you, yet with meekness and fear:16 having a good conscience; that, wherein ye are spoken against, they may be put to shame who revile your good manner of life in Christ.17 For it is better, if the will of God should so will, that ye suffer for well-doing than for evil-doing.18 Because Christ also suffered for sins once, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God; being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit;19 in which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison,20 that aforetime were disobedient, when the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water:21 which also after a true likeness doth now save you, even baptism, not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the interrogation of a good conscience toward God, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ;22 who is on the right hand of God, having gone into heaven; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.
