אגרתו הראשונה של פטרוס השליח 4

1 הואיל והמשיח סבל והתענה למענכם, היו מוכנים מבחינה נפשית לסבול כמוהו. כי אדם שסובל פיזית עקב התנגדותו לחטא, שוב אינו חוטא בכוונה תחילה;

2 אדם כזה לא יבלה את שארית חייו עלי-אדמות בסיפוק תאוותיו ותשוקותיו, כי אם בעשיית רצון אלוהים!

3 לפני שהאמנתם במשיח היה לכם מספיק זמן להתנהג כמו הגויים: לזנות, לנאוף, להשתכר, להתהולל, לעבוד את האלילים ולעשות מעשי תועבה אחרים.

4 אכן, חבריכם לשעבר מתפלאים על כך ששוב אינכם משתתפים במעשי השחיתות שלהם, והם כועסים עליכם ולועגים לכם.

5 אולם זכרו כי הם יתנו את הדין על מעשיהם, לפני האלוהים השופט את החיים ואת המתים, וייענשו בהתאם למעלליהם.

6 משום כך הושמעה הבשורה גם למתים, כדי שעל אף פסק-דין המוות שקיבלו כדרך בני-האדם בבשר, יחיו ברוח כדרך האלוהים.

7 מכיוון שקץ העולם קרב, רסנו את עצמכם והתפללו בצלילות הדעת.

8 מעל הכול, המשיכו לאהוב איש את רעהו אהבה כנה ועמוקה, כי האהבה סולחת על מגרעות ופשעים רבים.

9 הכניסו אורחים לביתכם בשמחה ובלי תלונות.

10 לכל אחד מכם העניק אלוהים כישרונות מסוימים; נצלו כישרונות אלה ועזרו לזולת.

11 אם העניק לך אלוהים את כישרון ההטפה וההוראה, הטף ולמד כאילו אלוהים עצמו מדבר בפיך. אם ביקש ממך אלוהים לעזור לזולתך, עשה את המוטל עליך ברצון ובכל הכוח והעוז שמעניק לך אלוהים. בכל מעשיך כבד ופאר את אלוהים דרך ישוע המשיח, אשר לו הכבוד והגבורה לעולם ועד. - אמן.

12 ידידים יקרים, כשתבואנה עליכם צרות כדי לבחון את אמונתכם, אל תתפלאו ואל תשתוממו כאילו היה זה דבר מוזר ויוצא-דופן.

13 שמחו על צרות אלה, כי אתם משתתפים למעשה בסבל המשיח, ויום אחד כשיגלה את עצמו ברוב הדרו, תימלאו שמחה נפלאה.

14 שמחו כשמקללים ומעליבים אתכם על-שום אמונתכם במשיח, כי פירוש הדבר שרוח אלוהים נחה עליכם בהדר רב.

15 אולם אינני רוצה לשמוע על סבל שנגרם לכם על-שום שרצחתם, גנבתם, עשיתם רע או התערבתם בענייניהם של אחרים.

16 אין זאת בושה לסבול בגלל היותכם משיחיים; להיפך, הודו לאלוהים על הזכות להשתייך למשפחת המשיח ועל הזכות לשאת את שמו.

17 הגיע מועד משפטו של אלוהים, ותחילה עליו לשפוט את בניו. אם אף עלינו, המאמינים, להישפט, תארו לעצמכם מה נורא יהיה גורלם של אלה אשר מעולם לא האמינו באלוהים ובמשיח!

18 אם הצדיקים נושעים בקושי, איזה סיכוי יש לרשעים?

19 לפיכך, גם אם אתה סובל, כרצון אלוהים, המשך לעשות את הטוב, והפקד את עצמך בידי האלוהים אשר ברא אותך, כי הוא לעולם לא יאכזב אותך.

1 Peter 4

1 So, since Christ suffereds in the flesh, you also arm yourselves with the same attitude, because the one who has suffered in the flesh has finished with sin,s2 in that he spends the rest of his timet on earth concerned about the will of God and not human desires.3 For the time that has passed was sufficient for you to do what the non-Christianst desire.t You lived thent in debauchery, evil desires, drunkenness, carousing, drinking bouts,t and wanton idolatries.t4 Sot they are astonishedt when you do not rush with them into the same flood of wickedness, and they vilify you.t5 They will face a reckoning beforet Jesus Christt who stands ready to judge the living and the dead.

6 Now it was for this very purposet that the gospel was preached to those who are now dead,s so that thought they were judged in the flesht by human standardst they may live spirituallyt by God’s standards.t

Service, Suffering, and Judgment

7 For the culmination of all things is near. So be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of prayer.t8 Above all keept your love for one another fervent,t because love covers a multitude of sins.s9 Show hospitalityt to one another without complaining.10 Just as each one has received a gift, use it to serve one anothert as good stewards of the varied grace of God.

11 Whoever speaks, let it be witht God’s words.t Whoever serves, do so with the strengtht that God supplies, so that in everything God will be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belongt the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.
12 Dear friends, do not be astonishedt that a trial by fire is occurring among you,t as though something strange were happening to you.13 But rejoice in the degree that you have shared in the sufferings of Christ, so that when his glory is revealedt you may also rejoice and be glad.t14 If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory,s who is the Spirit of God,trestss on you.15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer or thief or criminal or as a troublemaker.t16 But if you suffer as a Christian,t do not be ashamed, but glorifyt God that you bear such a name.t17 For it is time for judgment to begin, starting with the houset of God. And if it starts with us, what will be the fatet of those who are disobedient to the gospel of God?18 And if the righteous are barely saved, what will become oftthe ungodly and sinners?ts

19 So then let those who suffer according to the will of God entrust their souls to a faithful Creator as they do good.t
