1 Pietarin 4

1 Että siis Kristus lihassa meidän edestämme on kärsinyt, niin te myös varustakaat teitänne sillä mielellä; sillä joka lihassa kärsii, se lakkaa synnistä,2 Ettei hän enään sitä aikaa, jonka hän lihassa edespäin on, ihmisten himon jälkeen, vaan Jumalan tahdon jälkeen eläisi.3 Sillä kyllä siinä on, että me edesmenneen ajan elämästä kulutimme pakanain mielen jälkeen, vaeltaissamme irstaudessa, himoissa, juopumisessa, ylönsuömisessä, ylönjuomisessa ja hirmuisissa epäjumalan palveluksissa.4 He oudoksuvat, ettette heidän kanssansa juokse samaan säädyttömän hekuman menoon, ja pilkkaavat.5 Niiden pitää luvun tekemän hänelle, joka on valmis tuomitsemaan eläviä ja kuolleita.6 Sillä sitä varten evankeliumi kuolleillekin saarnattu on, että he kyllä tuomittaisiin ihmisten jälkeen lihassa, mutta Jumalan jälkeen eläisivät hengessä.7 Mutta nyt kaikkein loppu lähestyy. Niin olkaat siis raittiit ja valppaat rukoilemaan.8 Mutta ennen kaikkia pitäkäät keskenänne palava rakkaus; sillä rakkaus peittää paljon rikoksia.9 Olkaat vierasten holhoojat keskenänne napisematta,10 Ja palvelkaat toinen toistanne, jokainen sillä lahjalla, minkä hän saanut on, niinkuin hyvät Jumalan moninaisen armon huoneenhaltiat.11 Jos joku puhuu, hän puhukaan niinkuin Jumalan sanoja: jos jollakin on joku virka, hän tehkään niinkuin siitä voimasta, jonka Jumala antaa, että Jumala kaikissa Jesuksen Kristuksen kautta kunnioitettaisiin, jolla on kunnia ja valta ijankaikkisesta ijankaikkiseen, amen!12 Minun rakkaani! älkäät oudoksuko sitä hellettä, joka teille tapahtuu, että teitä koetellaan, niinkuin teille jotakin outoa tapahtuis;13 Vaan iloitkaat, että te Kristuksen kanssa kärsitte, että tekin ajallansa hänen kunniansa ilmestyksessä iloitsisitte ja riemuitsisitte.14 Autuaat olette te, jos teitä Kristuksen nimen tähden pilkataan; sillä se Henki, joka on kunnian ja Jumalan Henki, lepää teidän päällänne: heiltä hän pilkataan, vaan teiltä hän kunnioitetaan.15 Älkään yksikään teistä kärsikö niinkuin murhaaja eli varas, taikka pahantekiä, eli niinkuin se, joka toisen virkaan rupee;16 Mutta jos hän kärsii niinkuin kristitty, älköön hävetkö, vaan kiittäkään Jumalaa sen osan tähden.17 Sillä aika on, että tuomion pitää Jumalan huoneesta alkaman. Mutta jos se ensin meistä alkaa, minkäs lopun ne saavat, jotka ei Jumalan evankeliumia usko?18 Ja jos hurskas tuskalla vapaaksi tulee, kussa sitte jumalatoin ja syntinen näkyy?19 Sentähden ne, jotka Jumalan tahdon jälkeen kärsivät, antakaan sielunsa niinkuin uskolliselle Luojalle hyvissä töissä.

1 Peter 4

1 So, since Christ suffereds in the flesh, you also arm yourselves with the same attitude, because the one who has suffered in the flesh has finished with sin,s2 in that he spends the rest of his timet on earth concerned about the will of God and not human desires.3 For the time that has passed was sufficient for you to do what the non-Christianst desire.t You lived thent in debauchery, evil desires, drunkenness, carousing, drinking bouts,t and wanton idolatries.t4 Sot they are astonishedt when you do not rush with them into the same flood of wickedness, and they vilify you.t5 They will face a reckoning beforet Jesus Christt who stands ready to judge the living and the dead.

6 Now it was for this very purposet that the gospel was preached to those who are now dead,s so that thought they were judged in the flesht by human standardst they may live spirituallyt by God’s standards.t

Service, Suffering, and Judgment

7 For the culmination of all things is near. So be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of prayer.t8 Above all keept your love for one another fervent,t because love covers a multitude of sins.s9 Show hospitalityt to one another without complaining.10 Just as each one has received a gift, use it to serve one anothert as good stewards of the varied grace of God.

11 Whoever speaks, let it be witht God’s words.t Whoever serves, do so with the strengtht that God supplies, so that in everything God will be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belongt the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.
12 Dear friends, do not be astonishedt that a trial by fire is occurring among you,t as though something strange were happening to you.13 But rejoice in the degree that you have shared in the sufferings of Christ, so that when his glory is revealedt you may also rejoice and be glad.t14 If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory,s who is the Spirit of God,trestss on you.15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer or thief or criminal or as a troublemaker.t16 But if you suffer as a Christian,t do not be ashamed, but glorifyt God that you bear such a name.t17 For it is time for judgment to begin, starting with the houset of God. And if it starts with us, what will be the fatet of those who are disobedient to the gospel of God?18 And if the righteous are barely saved, what will become oftthe ungodly and sinners?ts

19 So then let those who suffer according to the will of God entrust their souls to a faithful Creator as they do good.t
