ペテロの第一の手紙 4

四

1 キリスト様は、苦しみを受け、苦痛を忍ばれました。　ですから、あなたがたも、いつ苦しみに会ってもいい心がまえでいなさい。　肉体が苦しめば苦しむほど、罪はその力を失うことを覚えておきなさい。　2 こうして、あなたがたは残る生涯を、人間的な欲望の追求に費やすことなく、神様の御心のままに生きようと、細心の注意をはらうようになるのです。　3 あなたがたの過去は、性的な罪、みだらな肉欲、泥酔、乱交パーティー、酒宴、偶像礼拝など、神様を恐れない快楽に満ちていました。　もうそれで十分です。
4 昔の仲間は、もうどんなに誘っても、あなたがたが悪い遊びに応じないのを見て、ずいぶん驚くことでしょう。　あるいは、ばかにし、笑いものにするかもしれません。　5 しかし、覚えておきなさい。　彼らは、生きている者と死んだ者すべてをさばく、偉大な裁判官の前で、そのすべての行為について、まちがいなく罰を受けることになるのです。　6 だからこそ、この良い知らせは、洪水で滅ぼされた人々にも、伝えられたのです。　それは、たとい肉体には死の罰が下されても、霊においては、神様にならって生きるためでした。
7 世の終わりが近づいています。　ですから、真剣で、分別のある、祈りの人となりなさい。　8 何よりも大切なことは、どんな時にも、深く愛し合うことです。　愛は、多くの欠点を補うからです。　9 食べる物にも事欠き、宿にも困っている人がいたら、気持ちよく家に迎え入れてやりなさい。
10 神様はあなたがた一人一人に、何らかの特別な能力を授けておられます。　その能力によって、互いに助け合い、神様からのあふれる祝福をひとり占めにはせず、他の人と分かち合いなさい。　11 説教するために選ばれた人は、あたかも、神様があなたを通してじかにお語りになるように、語りなさい。　人を助けるために選ばれた人は、神様が下さる力とエネルギーに満たされて、人々を助けなさい。　それは、イエス・キリストを通して、神様がほめたたえられるためです。　どうか、栄光と力が、いついつまでも、キリスト様にありますように。　アーメン。
12 愛する皆さん。　炎のように燃えさかる試練に出会っても、あわてたり、おじけづいたりしてはいけません。　ふりかかる試練は、決して思いがけないものでも、異常なものでもないからです。　13 むしろ、その試練によって、キリスト様と苦しみを分かち合えるのですから、喜びなさい。　やがて、キリスト様の栄光が輝きわたる時、あなたがたは、その栄光を共に受けて、すばらしい喜びを味わうのです。
14 クリスチャンであるばかりに、ののしられ、侮辱されるなら、ほんとうに幸せです。　そんな時には、神の御霊が大いなる栄光で包んでくださるからです。　15 どうか皆さん。　人殺しや盗みの罪に問われたり、問題を引き起こしたり、みだりに他人の事柄に首を突っ込んだりして、そのために苦しむことがないよう気をつけてください。　そんなニュースが、私の耳に入らないようにしてください。　16 しかし、クリスチャンだからというので苦しみを受けるなら、少しも恥じることはありません。　それは、キリスト様の家族の一員とされ、キリスト様の名で呼ばれる特権を受けた証拠ですから、神様をほめたたえなさい。　17 なぜなら、さばきの時が、すでに来ているからです。　しかもそのさばきは、神様の子供たちから始まるのです。　このように、クリスチャンの私たちでさえ、さばかれるのなら、主を信じたことのない人々には、どんなに恐ろしい運命が、待ち受けていることでしょう。　18 正しい人が、かろうじて救われるのであれば、神様を信じない人々は、いったい、どんなことになるのでしょう。
19 ですから、あなたがたの今の苦しみが、神様のお心にそうものであるなら、なお続けて善を行ないなさい。　そして、あなたがたを造られた神様に、すべてをお任せしなさい。　神様から見捨てられることは、決してありません。

1 Peter 4

1 Forasmuch then as Christ suffered in the flesh, arm ye yourselves also with the same mind; for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;2 that ye no longer should live the rest of your time in flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.3 For the time past may suffice to have wrought the desire of the Gentiles, and to have walked in lasciviousness, lusts, winebibbings, revellings, carousings, and abominable idolatries:4 wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them into the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:5 who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the living and the dead.6 For unto this end was the gospel preached even to the dead, that they might be judged indeed according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore of sound mind, and be sober unto prayer:8 above all things being fervent in your love among yourselves; for love covereth a multitude of sins:9 using hospitality one to another without murmuring:10 according as each hath received a gift, ministering it among yourselves, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God;11 if any man speaketh, speaking as it were oracles of God; is any man ministereth, ministering as of the strength which God supplieth: that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, whose is the glory and the dominion for ever and ever. Amen.12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial among you, which cometh upon you to prove you, as though a strange thing happened unto you:13 but insomuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings, rejoice; that at the revelation of his glory also ye may rejoice with exceeding joy.14 If ye are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are ye; because the Spirit of glory and the Spirit of God resteth upon you.15 For let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evil-doer, or as a meddler in other men’s matters:16 but if a man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God in this name.17 For the time is come for judgment to begin at the house of God: and if it begin first at us, what shall be the end of them that obey not the gospel of God?18 And if the righteous is scarcely saved, where shall the ungodly and sinner appear?19 Wherefore let them also that suffer according to the will of God commit their souls in well-doing unto a faithful Creator.
