Vivir para Dios

1  Por lo tanto, ya que Cristo sufrió dolor en su cuerpo, ustedes prepárense, adoptando la misma actitud que tuvo él y estén listos para sufrir también. Pues, si han sufrido físicamente por Cristo, han terminado con el pecado.t 2 No pasarán el resto de la vida siguiendo sus propios deseos, sino que estarán ansiosos de hacer la voluntad de Dios. 3 En el pasado, han tenido más que suficiente de las cosas perversas que les gusta hacer a los que no tienen a Dios: inmoralidad y pasiones sexuales, parrandas, borracheras, fiestas desenfrenadas y abominable adoración a ídolos.

4 No es de extrañarse que sus amigos de la vieja vida se sorprendan de que ustedes ya no participan en las cosas destructivas y descontroladas que ellos hacen. Por eso los calumnian, 5 pero recuerden que ellos tendrán que enfrentarse con Dios, quien juzgará a todos, tanto a vivos como a muertos. 6 Por esta razón, la Buena Noticia fue predicada a los que ahora están muertos,t aunque fueron destinados a morir como toda la gente,t ahora vivirán para siempre con Dios en el Espíritu.t

7 El fin del mundo se acerca. Por consiguiente, sean serios y disciplinados en sus oraciones. 8 Lo más importante de todo es que sigan demostrando profundo amor unos a otros, porque el amor cubre gran cantidad de pecados. 9 Abran las puertas de su hogar con alegría al que necesite un plato de comida o un lugar donde dormir.

10 Dios, de su gran variedad de dones espirituales, les ha dado un don a cada uno de ustedes. Úsenlos bien para servirse los unos a los otros. 11 ¿Has recibido el don de hablar en público? Entonces, habla como si Dios mismo estuviera hablando por medio de ti. ¿Has recibido el don de ayudar a otros? Ayúdalos con toda la fuerza y la energía que Dios te da. Así, cada cosa que hagan traerá gloria a Dios por medio de Jesucristo. ¡A él sea toda la gloria y todo el poder por siempre y para siempre! Amén.

Sufrir por ser cristiano

12 Queridos amigos, no se sorprendan de las pruebas de fuego por las que están atravesando, como si algo extraño les sucediera. 13 En cambio, alégrense mucho, porque estas pruebas los hacen ser partícipes con Cristo de su sufrimiento, para que tengan la inmensa alegría de ver su gloria cuando sea revelada a todo el mundo.

14 Así que alégrense cuando los insulten por ser cristianos,t porque el glorioso Espíritu de Diost reposa sobre ustedes.t 15 Sin embargo, si sufren, que no sea por matar, robar, causar problemas o entrometerse en asuntos ajenos. 16 En cambio, no es nada vergonzoso sufrir por ser cristianos. ¡Alaben a Dios por el privilegio de que los llamen por el nombre de Cristo! 17 Pues ha llegado el tiempo del juicio, y debe comenzar por la casa de Dios; y si el juicio comienza con nosotros, ¿qué terrible destino les espera a los que nunca obedecieron la Buena Noticia de Dios?

18 Además,
«Si el justo a duras penas se salva,
¿qué será de los pecadores que viven sin Dios?»t.

19 De modo que, si sufren de la manera que agrada a Dios, sigan haciendo lo correcto y confíenle su vida a Dios, quien los creó, pues él nunca les fallará.

Being Faithful to God

1 Christ suffered here on earth. Now you must be ready to suffer as he did, because suffering shows that you have stopped sinning. 2 It means you have turned from your own desires and want to obey God for the rest of your life. 3 You have already lived long enough like people who don't know God. You were immoral and followed your evil desires. You went around drinking and partying and carrying on. In fact, you even worshiped disgusting idols. 4 Now your former friends wonder why you have stopped running around with them, and they curse you for it. 5 But they will have to answer to God, who judges the living and the dead.

6 The good news has even been preached to the dead, t so that after they have been judged for what they have done in this life, their spirits will live with God.

7 Everything will soon come to an end. So be serious and be sensible enough to pray.

8  t Most important of all, you must sincerely love each other, because love wipes away many sins.

9 Welcome people into your home and don't grumble about it.
10 Each of you has been blessed with one of God's many wonderful gifts to be used in the service of others. So use your gift well.

11 If you have the gift of speaking, preach God's message. If you have the gift of helping others, do it with the strength that God supplies. Everything should be done in a way that will bring honor to God because of Jesus Christ, who is glorious and powerful forever. Amen.

Suffering for Being //a Christian

13 Be glad for the chance to suffer as Christ suffered. It will prepare you for even greater happiness when he makes his glorious return.
14 Count it a blessing when you suffer for being a Christian. This shows that God's glorious Spirit is with you. 15 But you deserve to suffer if you are a murderer, a thief, a crook, or a busybody. 16 Don't be ashamed to suffer for being a Christian. Praise God that you belong to him.

17 God has already begun judging his own people. And if his judgment begins with us, imagine how terrible it will be for those who refuse to obey his message. The Scriptures say,

18  t “If good people barely escape,
what will happen to sinners
and to others
who don't respect God?”
19 If you suffer for obeying God, you must have complete faith in your faithful Creator and keep on doing right.
