EPISTOLA I DI S. PIETRO 4

1 Poiché dunque Cristo ha sofferto nella carne, anche voi armatevi di questo stesso pensiero, che, cioè, colui che ha sofferto nella carne ha cessato dal peccato, 2 per consacrare il tempo che resta da passare nella carne, non più alle concupiscenze degli uomini, ma alla volontà di Dio. 3 Poiché basta l'aver dato il vostro passato a fare la volontà de' Gentili col vivere nelle lascivie, nelle concupiscenze, nelle ubriachezze, nelle gozzoviglie, negli sbevazzamenti, e nelle nefande idolatrie. 4 Per la qual cosa trovano strano che voi non corriate con loro agli stessi eccessi di dissolutezza, e dicon male di voi. 5 Essi renderanno ragione a colui ch'è pronto a giudicare i vivi ed i morti. 6 Poiché per questo è stato annunziato l'Evangelo anche ai morti; onde fossero bensì giudicati secondo gli uomini quanto alla carne, ma vivessero secondo Dio quanto allo spirito. 7 Or la fine di ogni cosa è vicina; siate dunque temperati e vigilanti alle orazioni. 8 Sopratutto, abbiate amore intenso gli uni per gli altri, perché l'amore copre moltitudine di peccati. 9 Siate ospitali gli uni verso gli altri senza mormorare. 10 Come buoni amministratori della svariata grazia di Dio, ciascuno, secondo il dono che ha ricevuto, lo faccia valere al servizio degli altri. 11 Se uno parla, lo faccia come annunziando oracoli di Dio; se uno esercita un ministerio, lo faccia come con la forza che Dio fornisce, onde in ogni cosa sia glorificato Iddio per mezzo di Gesù Cristo, al quale appartengono la gloria e l'imperio nei secoli de' secoli. Amen. 12 Diletti, non vi stupite della fornace accesa in mezzo a voi per provarvi, quasiché vi avvenisse qualcosa di strano. 13 Anzi in quanto partecipate alle sofferenze di Cristo, rallegratevene, affinché anche alla rivelazione della sua gloria possiate rallegrarvi giubilando. 14 Se siete vituperati per il nome di Cristo, beati voi! perché lo Spirito di gloria, lo spirito di Dio, riposa su voi. 15 Nessuno di voi patisca come omicida, o ladro, o malfattore, o come ingerentesi nei fatti altrui; 16 ma se uno patisce come Cristiano, non se ne vergogni, ma glorifichi Iddio portando questo nome. 17 Poiché è giunto il tempo in cui il giudicio ha da cominciare dalla casa di Dio; e se comincia prima da noi, qual sarà la fine di quelli che non ubbidiscono al Vangelo di Dio? 18 E se il giusto è appena salvato, dove comparirà l'empio e il peccatore? 19 Perciò anche quelli che soffrono secondo la volontà di Dio, raccomandino le anime loro al fedel Creatore, facendo il bene.

Being Faithful to God

1 Christ suffered here on earth. Now you must be ready to suffer as he did, because suffering shows that you have stopped sinning. 2 It means you have turned from your own desires and want to obey God for the rest of your life. 3 You have already lived long enough like people who don't know God. You were immoral and followed your evil desires. You went around drinking and partying and carrying on. In fact, you even worshiped disgusting idols. 4 Now your former friends wonder why you have stopped running around with them, and they curse you for it. 5 But they will have to answer to God, who judges the living and the dead.

6 The good news has even been preached to the dead, t so that after they have been judged for what they have done in this life, their spirits will live with God.

7 Everything will soon come to an end. So be serious and be sensible enough to pray.

8  t Most important of all, you must sincerely love each other, because love wipes away many sins.

9 Welcome people into your home and don't grumble about it.
10 Each of you has been blessed with one of God's many wonderful gifts to be used in the service of others. So use your gift well.

11 If you have the gift of speaking, preach God's message. If you have the gift of helping others, do it with the strength that God supplies. Everything should be done in a way that will bring honor to God because of Jesus Christ, who is glorious and powerful forever. Amen.

Suffering for Being //a Christian

13 Be glad for the chance to suffer as Christ suffered. It will prepare you for even greater happiness when he makes his glorious return.
14 Count it a blessing when you suffer for being a Christian. This shows that God's glorious Spirit is with you. 15 But you deserve to suffer if you are a murderer, a thief, a crook, or a busybody. 16 Don't be ashamed to suffer for being a Christian. Praise God that you belong to him.

17 God has already begun judging his own people. And if his judgment begins with us, imagine how terrible it will be for those who refuse to obey his message. The Scriptures say,

18  t “If good people barely escape,
what will happen to sinners
and to others
who don't respect God?”
19 If you suffer for obeying God, you must have complete faith in your faithful Creator and keep on doing right.
