하나님의 은혜를 맡은 선한 관리인

1  그리스도께서는 육신으로 t고난을 받으셨습니다. 여러분도 같은 마음으로 무장하십시오. 육신으로 고난을 받은 사람은 이미 죄와 인연을 끊은 것입니다. 2 이제부터는, t육신으로 살아갈 남은 때를 인간의 욕정대로 살지 말고, 하나님의 뜻대로 살아야 합니다. 3 여러분은 지난날에 이방 사람들이 하고 싶어하는 일을 하였으니, 곧 방탕과 정욕과 술 취함과 환락과 연회와 가증스러운 우상숭배에 빠져 살아 왔습니다. 그것은 지나간 때로 충분합니다. 4 그들은 여러분이 자기들과 함께 그런 지나친 방종에 빠지지 않는 것을 이상히 여기면서, 여러분을 비방합니다. 5 그들은 산 사람과 죽은 사람을 심판하실 분에게 사실을 죄다 아뢰어야 합니다. 6 죽은 사람들에게도 복음이 전해진 것은, 그들이 육신으로는 모든 사람이 심판받는 대로 심판을 받으나, 영으로는 하나님을 따라 살게 하려는 것입니다. 7 만물의 마지막이 가까이 왔습니다. 그러므로 정신을 차리고, 삼가 조심하여 기도하십시오. 8 무엇보다도 먼저 서로 뜨겁게 사랑하십시오. 사랑은 허다한 죄를 덮어 줍니다. 9 불평 없이 서로 따뜻하게 대접하십시오. 10 각 사람은 은사를 받은 대로 하나님의 여러 가지 은혜를 맡은 선한 관리인으로서 서로 봉사하십시오. 11 말을 하는 사람은 하나님의 말씀을 전파하는 사람답게 하고, 봉사하는 사람은 하나님께서 주시는 힘으로 봉사하는 사람답게 하십시오. 그리하면 하나님이 모든 일에 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 영광을 받으실 것입니다. 영광과 권세가 영원무궁하도록 그에게 있습니다. 아멘.

그리스도인이 받을 고난

12 사랑하는 여러분, 여러분을 시험하려고 시련의 불길이 여러분 가운데 일어나더라도, 무슨 이상한 일이나 생긴 것처럼 놀라지 마십시오. 13 그만큼 여러분은 그리스도의 고난에 동참하는 것이니, 기뻐하십시오. 그러면 그의 영광이 나타날 때에 여러분은 또한 기뻐 뛰며 즐거워하게 될 것입니다. 14 여러분이 그리스도의 이름으로 모욕을 당하면 복이 있습니다. t영광의 영 곧 하나님의 영이 여러분 위에 머물러 계시기 때문입니다.t 15 여러분 가운데에 아무도 살인자나 도둑이나 악을 행하는 자나 남의 일을 간섭하는 자로서 고난을 당하는 일이 없도록 하십시오. 16 그러나 그리스도인으로서 고난을 당하면 부끄러워하지 말고, 도리어 그 이름으로 하나님께 영광을 돌리십시오. 17 하나님의 집에서부터 심판을 시작할 때가 되었기 때문입니다. 심판이 우리에게서 먼저 시작되면, 하나님의 복음에 순종하지 않는 자들의 마지막이 어떠하겠습니까? 18  t“의인도 겨우 구원을 받으면, 경건하지 않은 자와 죄인은 어떻게 되겠습니까?”

19 그러므로 하나님의 뜻을 따라 고난을 받는 사람은, 선한 일을 하면서 자기의 영혼을 신실하신 조물주께 맡기십시오.

Being Faithful to God

1 Christ suffered here on earth. Now you must be ready to suffer as he did, because suffering shows that you have stopped sinning. 2 It means you have turned from your own desires and want to obey God for the rest of your life. 3 You have already lived long enough like people who don't know God. You were immoral and followed your evil desires. You went around drinking and partying and carrying on. In fact, you even worshiped disgusting idols. 4 Now your former friends wonder why you have stopped running around with them, and they curse you for it. 5 But they will have to answer to God, who judges the living and the dead.

6 The good news has even been preached to the dead, t so that after they have been judged for what they have done in this life, their spirits will live with God.

7 Everything will soon come to an end. So be serious and be sensible enough to pray.

8  t Most important of all, you must sincerely love each other, because love wipes away many sins.

9 Welcome people into your home and don't grumble about it.
10 Each of you has been blessed with one of God's many wonderful gifts to be used in the service of others. So use your gift well.

11 If you have the gift of speaking, preach God's message. If you have the gift of helping others, do it with the strength that God supplies. Everything should be done in a way that will bring honor to God because of Jesus Christ, who is glorious and powerful forever. Amen.

Suffering for Being //a Christian

12 Dear friends, don't be surprised or shocked that you are going through testing that is like walking through fire.

13 Be glad for the chance to suffer as Christ suffered. It will prepare you for even greater happiness when he makes his glorious return.
14 Count it a blessing when you suffer for being a Christian. This shows that God's glorious Spirit is with you. 15 But you deserve to suffer if you are a murderer, a thief, a crook, or a busybody. 16 Don't be ashamed to suffer for being a Christian. Praise God that you belong to him.

17 God has already begun judging his own people. And if his judgment begins with us, imagine how terrible it will be for those who refuse to obey his message. The Scriptures say,

18  t “If good people barely escape,
what will happen to sinners
and to others
who don't respect God?”
19 If you suffer for obeying God, you must have complete faith in your faithful Creator and keep on doing right.
