ผู้รับมอบฉันทะที่ดีของพระเจ้า
1 ดังนั้น โดยเหตุที่พระคริสต์ได้ทรงทนทุกข์ทางพระกายtแล้ว พวกท่านก็จงติดอาวุธตัวเองโดยมีความคิดเดียวกันกับพระองค์ เพราะว่าผู้ที่ทนทุกข์ทางกายก็เลิกข้องเกี่ยวกับบาปอีกต่อไป 2 เพื่อจะไม่ดำเนินชีวิตที่เหลืออยู่ในโลกtตามตัณหาของมนุษย์ แต่ตามพระประสงค์ของพระเจ้า 3 จงให้เวลาที่ผ่านไปแล้วนั้น เพียงพอสำหรับการทำสิ่งที่คนต่างชาติชอบกระทำ คือการปล่อยตัวตามราคะตัณหา ตามใจปรารถนาชั่ว การเมาเหล้าองุ่น การเลี้ยงกันอย่างถึงใจ การกินเหล้าวุ่นวายกัน และการไหว้รูปเคารพอันน่ารังเกียจ 4 พวกเขาแปลกใจที่เดี๋ยวนี้พวกท่านไม่ได้ร่วมสำมะเลเทเมาอย่างเดียวกับพวกเขา และพวกเขาก็กล่าวร้ายพวกท่าน 5 คนเหล่านั้นจะต้องให้การต่อพระองค์ ผู้พร้อมแล้วที่จะทรงพิพากษาทั้งคนเป็นและคนตาย 6 ด้วยเหตุนี้เอง ข่าวประเสริฐจึงได้ประกาศแม้แก่คนตาย เพื่อพวกเขาจะมีชีวิตทางจิตวิญญาณตามอย่างพระเจ้า แม้ว่าพวกเขาถูกพิพากษาเหมือนอย่างมนุษย์ปุถุชน
7 อวสานของสิ่งทั้งปวงมาใกล้แล้ว เพราะฉะนั้น พวกท่านจงมีสติสัมปชัญญะ และจงรู้จักสงบใจtเพื่อการอธิษฐาน 8 เหนือสิ่งอื่นใดก็คือ จงรักกันและกันให้มาก เพราะความรักให้อภัยบาปมากมายได้tt 9 พวกท่านจงต้อนรับเลี้ยงดูกันและกันโดยไม่บ่น 10 ตามที่แต่ละคนได้รับของประทาน ก็ให้ใช้ของประทานนั้นปรนนิบัติกันและกัน ดังเช่นผู้รับมอบฉันทะที่ดีเกี่ยวกับพระคุณนานาประการของพระเจ้า 11 ถ้าใครจะพูด ก็ให้พูดดังเช่นพูดพระวจนะของพระเจ้า ถ้าใครจะปรนนิบัติ ก็จงปรนนิบัติดังเช่นทำด้วยกำลังซึ่งพระเจ้าประทาน เพื่อพระเจ้าจะได้รับพระเกียรติในทุกสิ่ง ทางพระเยซูคริสต์ ขอพระสิริและอานุภาพจงมีแด่พระองค์ตลอดไปเป็นนิตย์ อาเมน
การยอมทนทุกข์อย่างคริสตชน
12 ท่านที่รักทั้งหลาย อย่าแปลกใจกับความทุกข์ยากแสนสาหัสที่กำลังเกิดขึ้นกับพวกท่าน เพื่อทดสอบพวกท่านนั้น ราวกับว่าสิ่งประหลาดเกิดกับพวกท่าน 13 แต่จงชื่นชมยินดีเสมอ ที่ได้มีส่วนร่วมในความทุกข์ยากของพระคริสต์ เพื่อว่าเมื่อพระสิริของพระองค์ปรากฏ พวกท่านก็จะชื่นชมยินดีจนเนื้อเต้น 14 ถ้าพวกท่านถูกด่าเพราะพระนามของพระคริสต์ พวกท่านก็เป็นสุข เพราะว่าพระวิญญาณแห่งพระสิริคือพระวิญญาณของพระเจ้าtสถิตกับพวกท่าน 15 แต่อย่าให้ใครในพวกท่านทนทุกข์ฐานเป็นฆาตกร หรือเป็นขโมย หรือเป็นคนทำชั่ว หรือเป็นคนที่เที่ยวยุ่งกับธุระของคนอื่น 16 แต่ถ้าทนทุกข์เพราะได้ชื่อว่าเป็นคริสตชนt ก็อย่าให้คนนั้นละอายเลย แต่ให้ถวายพระเกียรติแด่พระเจ้าเพราะชื่อนั้น 17 เพราะถึงเวลาแล้ว ที่การพิพากษาจะเริ่มต้นที่ครอบครัวของพระเจ้า และถ้าเริ่มต้นที่พวกเราก่อน ปลายทางของคนเหล่านั้น ที่ไม่เชื่อฟังข่าวประเสริฐของพระเจ้าจะเป็นอย่างไร? 18 และ
ถ้าคนชอบธรรมจะรอดได้อย่างยากเย็นแล้ว
คนอธรรมและคนบาปจะไปอยู่ที่ไหน?

19 ดังนั้น ขอให้คนทั้งหลายที่ทนทุกข์ตามพระประสงค์ของพระเจ้า ฝากวิญญาณจิตของตนไว้กับพระผู้สร้าง ผู้ซื่อสัตย์ และทำดีต่อไป

1 Forasmuch then as Christ suffered in the flesh, arm ye yourselves also with the same mind; for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;2 that ye no longer should live the rest of your time in flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.3 For the time past may suffice to have wrought the desire of the Gentiles, and to have walked in lasciviousness, lusts, winebibbings, revellings, carousings, and abominable idolatries:4 wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them into the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:5 who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the living and the dead.6 For unto this end was the gospel preached even to the dead, that they might be judged indeed according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.7 But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore of sound mind, and be sober unto prayer:8 above all things being fervent in your love among yourselves; for love covereth a multitude of sins:9 using hospitality one to another without murmuring:10 according as each hath received a gift, ministering it among yourselves, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God;11 if any man speaketh, speaking as it were oracles of God; is any man ministereth, ministering as of the strength which God supplieth: that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, whose is the glory and the dominion for ever and ever. Amen.12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial among you, which cometh upon you to prove you, as though a strange thing happened unto you:13 but insomuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings, rejoice; that at the revelation of his glory also ye may rejoice with exceeding joy.14 If ye are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are ye; because the Spirit of glory and the Spirit of God resteth upon you.15 For let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evil-doer, or as a meddler in other men’s matters:16 but if a man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God in this name.17 For the time is come for judgment to begin at the house of God: and if it begin first at us, what shall be the end of them that obey not the gospel of God?18 And if the righteous is scarcely saved, where shall the ungodly and sinner appear?19 Wherefore let them also that suffer according to the will of God commit their souls in well-doing unto a faithful Creator.
