1 Petrus 5
Die ouderlinge
1-2 Ek is ’n touderling soos julle en ek is ’n tgetuie wat gesien het dat Christus baie swaar gekry het. Die tyd is ook nou baie naby wanneer almal sal sien dat Christus die Koning is, en ek sal dit ook sien. Daarom vra ek mooi vir julle wat ouderlinge is, om therders te wees wat sorg vir God se mense wat daar by julle is. Julle moet sorg vir hulle, nie omdat iemand sê julle móét dit doen nie, maar omdat julle dit graag wil doen en omdat God dit wil hê. Julle moet dit doen, nie omdat julle altyd meer dinge wil hê nie, maar omdat julle baie graag wil sorg vir hulle. 3 God het mense vir julle gegee sodat julle vir hulle kan sorg. Julle moenie vir hulle verdruk nie, maar julle moet ’n goeie tvoorbeeld wees vir hulle. 4 Christus is die Hoof van die herders, en wanneer Hy weer kom, dan sal julle die tlourier-krans kry wat pas by ’n koning, dit is ’n kransie wat nie droog word en verlep nie.
5 Ek het gepraat met die ouer mans en ek praat nou ook so met die jonger mans: Julle moet luister na die ouer mans, julle almal moet vir mekaar dien en julle moenie hoogmoedig wees nie, want:
tWanneer mense dink dat hulle
vir ander mense kan spot,
dan spot God vir húlle.
Wanneer mense weet dat hulle
nie hulleself kan help nie,
dan is God goed vir hulle.Julle moet julleself verneder, dan sal God vir julle belangrik maak
6 Julle moet julleself tverneder voor God wat baie sterk is, dan sal Hý vir julle belangrik maak op die tlaaste dag.
7 Julle moet alles waaroor julle bekommerd is, vir God sê, want Hy gee vir julle alles, Hy sorg vir julle.
8 Julle moet goed dink wat julle doen en julle moet wakker wees. Julle vyand, tdie duiwel, loop rond soos ’n leeu wat brul, hy soek iemand om op te vreet. 9 Julle moet veg teen die duiwel, julle geloof moet baie vas wees. Julle moet weet dat daar mense in die hele wêreld is wat ook in Christus glo, soos julle, en hulle kry ook so swaar soos julle. 10 Julle het al klaar ’n kort rukkie swaargekry, maar God is altyd baie goed. Hy het besluit dat julle wat aan Christus Jesus behoort, vir altyd by Hom moet wees, by Hom wat die Koning is. Dit is Hý wat vir julle sal gereedmaak, Hy sal julle help, Hy sal julle sterker maak, en Hy sal julle vas laat staan sodat julle nie sonde doen nie.
11 God is baie sterk, vir altyd. Amen.Petrus stuur groete
12 Ek weet dat tSilvanus ’n goeie vriend is, hy sal altyd doen wat hy belowe het. Hy het my gehelp om hierdie kort brief vir julle te skryf. Ek het geskryf om julle te tbemoedig en te sê dat hierdie boodskap die waarheid is, die boodskap dat God baie goed is. Dit is hoekom julle moet aanhou glo. 13 God het die gemeente in tBabilon ook gekies soos Hy vir julle gekies het, en die tgelowiges hier stuur groete vir julle. tMarkus, my seun, stuur ook groete vir julle. 14 Julle moet mekaar groet met die soen wat wys dat julle almal lief is vir mekaar. Ek bid dat God vir julle almal wat aan Christus behoort, vrede sal gee.
1 Peter 5
To Elders and Young Men
1 I'm speaking to the elders among you. I was a witness of Christ's sufferings. And I will also share in the glory that is going to come. I'm making my appeal to you as one who is an elder together with you.2 Be shepherds of God's flock, the believers who are under your care. Serve as their leaders. Don't serve them because you have to. Instead, do it because you want to. That's what God wants you to do. Don't do it because you want to get more and more money. Do it because you really want to serve.
3 Don't act as if you were a ruler over those who are under your care. Instead, be examples to the flock.4 The Chief Shepherd will come again. Then you will receive the crown of glory. It is a crown that will never fade away.
5 Young men, follow the lead of those who are older. All of you, put on a spirit that is free of pride toward each other as if it were your clothes. Scripture says,
"God opposes those who are proud.
But he gives grace to those who are not." (Proverbs 3:34)6 So don't be proud. Put yourselves under God's mighty hand. Then he will honor you at the right time.
7 Turn all your worries over to him. He cares about you.
8 Control yourselves. Be on your guard. Your enemy the devil is like a roaring lion. He prowls around looking for someone to chew up and swallow.9 Stand up to him. Stand firm in what you believe. All over the world you know that your brothers and sisters are going through the same kind of suffering.
10 God always gives you all the grace you need. So you will only have to suffer for a little while. Then God himself will build you up again. He will make you strong and steady. And he has chosen you to share in his eternal glory because you belong to Christ.
11 Give him the power for ever and ever. Amen.
Final Greetings
12 I consider Silas to be a faithful brother. With his help I have written you this short letter. I have written it to cheer you up. And I have written to give witness about the true grace of God. Stand firm in it.
13 The members of the church in Babylon send you their greetings. They were chosen together with you. Mark, my son in the faith, also sends you his greetings.14 Greet each other with a friendly kiss.
May God give peace to all of you who believe in Christ.
