Pokorné zahrne milostí

1 Starší mezi vámi prosím jako váš spolustarší, svědek Kristových utrpení a účastník slávy, která bude zjevena: 2 Paste Boží stádo, které je u vás, a bděte nad ním – ne z povinnosti, ale dobrovolně, jak se to Bohu líbí, ne kvůli prospěchu, ale nezištně. 3 Nepanujte nad svěřeným stádem, ale jděte mu příkladem, 4 abyste, až se ukáže ten nejvyšší Pastýř, přijali nevadnoucí věnec slávy.

5 Vy, mladší, se podřizujte starším a všichni se oblékněte pokorou vůči sobě navzájem, vždyť
„Bůh se staví proti pyšným,
pokorné ale zahrne milostí.“ 6 Pokořte se tedy pod mocnou Boží ruku, a on vás v pravý čas povýší. 7 Všechnu svou starost svěřte jemu, vždyť jemu na vás záleží.

8 Probuďte se, mějte se na pozoru! Váš protivník ďábel chodí kolem jako řvoucí lev a hledá kořist. 9 Postavte se mu jakožto silní ve víře a vězte, že stejné utrpení zakoušejí vaši bratři po celém světě.

10 Když projdete tímto krátkým utrpením, Bůh veškeré milosti, který vás v Kristu Ježíši povolal do své věčné slávy, vás obnoví, upevní, posílí a ukotví. 11 Jemu náleží moc navěky! Amen.

12 S pomocí Silvana, kterého považuji za věrného bratra, jsem vám napsal tento krátký list, abych vás povzbudil a ujistil vás, že toto je pravá Boží milost. Stůjte v ní pevně.

13 Pozdravuje vás vaše spoluvyvolená církev v Babylonu a Marek, můj syn.

14 Pozdravte se navzájem polibkem lásky.
Pokoj vám všem, kdo jste v Kristu.

Leading and Living in God’s Flock

1 So as your fellow elder and a witness of Christ’s sufferings and as one who shares in the glory that will be revealed, I urge the elders among you:2 Give a shepherd’s care tot God’s flock among you, exercising oversights not merely as a dutyt but willingly under God’s direction,t not for shameful profit but eagerly.3 And do not lord it overt those entrusted to you,t but be examples to the flock.

4 Thent when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that never fades away.
5 In the same way, you who are younger,s be subject to the elders. And all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.s6 And God will exalt you in due time,t if you humble yourselves under his mighty handt7 by castingts all your carest on him because he cares for you.8 Be sober and alert. Your enemy the devil, like a roaring lion,s is on the prowl looking for someones to devour.9 Resist him,t strong in your faith, because you knowt that your brothers and sisterst throughout the worldt are enduringt the same kinds of suffering.t10 And, after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace who called you to his eternal glory in Christs will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.t

11 To him belongst the power forever. Amen.

12 Through Silvanus,s whom I know to be a faithful brother,t I have written to you briefly, in order to encourage you and testifyt that this is the true grace of God. Stand fast in it.t13 The churcht in Babylon,s chosen together with you,t greets you, and so does Mark, my son.
