4. Consejos particulares (5.1-11)

A los ancianos

1 Quiero aconsejar ahora a los ancianost de vuestras congregaciones, yo que soy anciano como ellos y testigo de los sufrimientos de Cristo,t y que, lo mismo que ellos, voy a tener parte en la gloria que ha de manifestarse.t 2 Cuidad de las ovejas de Dios que os han sido confiadas;t hacedlo de buena voluntad, como Dios quiere, y no como a la fuerza o por ambición de dinero. Realizad vuestro trabajo de buena gana, 3 no comportándoos como si fuerais dueños de quienes están a vuestro cuidado, sino procurando ser un ejemplo para ellos.

4 Así, cuando aparezca el Pastor principal,t recibiréis la corona de la gloria, una corona que jamás se marchitará.t

A los jóvenes

5 De la misma manera, vosotros, jóvenes, someteos a la autoridad de los ancianos. Todos debéis someteros unos a otros con humildad, porque:
“Dios se opone a los orgullosos,
pero ayuda con su bondad a los humildes.”t
6 Humillaos, pues, bajo la poderosa mano de Dios, para que él os enaltezca a su debido tiempo.t

7 Dejad todas vuestras preocupaciones a Dios, porque él se preocupa de vosotros.t
8 Sed prudentes y manteneos despiertos,t porque vuestro enemigo el diablo, como un león rugiente, anda buscando a quien devorar. 9 Resistidlet firmes en la fe, sabiendo que en todas partes del mundo vuestros hermanos soportan los mismos sufrimientos. 10 Pero después que hayáis sufrido por un poco de tiempo, Dios os hará perfectos,t firmes, fuertes y seguros.t Él es el mismo Dios que en su gran amor nos ha llamado a tener parte en su gloria eterna en unión con Jesucristo.

11 A él sea el poder para siempre. Amén.

Despedida (5.12-14)

12 Por medio de Silvano,t a quien considero un hermano fiel, os he escrito esta breve carta para aconsejaros y aseguraros que las bendiciones que habéis recibido son prueba verdadera del amor de Dios. ¡Permaneced fieles a ese amor!
13 La iglesia que está en Babilonia,t la cual Dios ha escogido lo mismo que a vosotros, os manda saludos; y también mi hijo Marcos.t

14 Saludaos unos a otros con un beso de amor fraternal.t
Tened paz todos los que pertenecéis a Cristo.

Leading and Living in God’s Flock

1 So as your fellow elder and a witness of Christ’s sufferings and as one who shares in the glory that will be revealed, I urge the elders among you:2 Give a shepherd’s care tot God’s flock among you, exercising oversights not merely as a dutyt but willingly under God’s direction,t not for shameful profit but eagerly.3 And do not lord it overt those entrusted to you,t but be examples to the flock.

4 Thent when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that never fades away.
5 In the same way, you who are younger,s be subject to the elders. And all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.s6 And God will exalt you in due time,t if you humble yourselves under his mighty handt7 by castingts all your carest on him because he cares for you.8 Be sober and alert. Your enemy the devil, like a roaring lion,s is on the prowl looking for someones to devour.9 Resist him,t strong in your faith, because you knowt that your brothers and sisterst throughout the worldt are enduringt the same kinds of suffering.t10 And, after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace who called you to his eternal glory in Christs will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.t

11 To him belongst the power forever. Amen.

Final Greetings

12 Through Silvanus,s whom I know to be a faithful brother,t I have written to you briefly, in order to encourage you and testifyt that this is the true grace of God. Stand fast in it.t13 The churcht in Babylon,s chosen together with you,t greets you, and so does Mark, my son.

14 Greet one another with a loving kiss.t Peace to all of you who are in Christ.s
