Una parola ai, responsabili della comunità.

1 Ed ora una parola a voi, che siete i responsabili della chiesa. Anch’io sono uno di voi, e con i miei occhi ho visto Cristo morire sulla croce; anch’io, quando Cristo tornerà, parteciperò alla sua gloria e al suo onore. Colleghi, questa è la mia preghiera per voi2 abbiate cura del gregge che Dio vi ha affidato; sorvegliatelo di buona voglia, non per obbligo né per interesse, ma perché desiderate con tutto il cuore fare ciò che il Signore desidera.3 Non siate tiranni con quelli che vi sono stati affidati, ma guidateli col vostro buon esempio;4 allora, quando apparirà Cristo, il capo di tutti i pastori, riceverete una gloriosa ricompensa che durerà per sempre.5 Allo stesso modo, voi giovani ubbidite agli anziani. E tutti voi siate pronti a servirvi a vicenda con umiltà, perché le Scritture dicono: « Dio dà benedizioni speciali agli umili, ma resiste ai superbi ».6 Se vi umilierete sotto la potente mano di Dio, al momento giusto egli vi rialzerà.7 Affidate a lui tutte le vostre preoccupazioni e ansietà, perché egli ha cura di voi.8 Siate lucidi di mente e attenti agli attacchi di Satana, il vostro grande nemico che s’aggira come un leone ruggente, cercando qualcuno da divorare.9 Ma voi resistete, quando vi attacca, e abbiate fede nel Signore! E ricordate che anche altri cristiani, sparsi per il mondo, stanno patendo le vostre stesse sofferenze.10 Ma, dopo che avrete sofferto un po’, il nostro Dio, che dona ogni grazia per mezzo di Cristo, vi darà la sua gloria eterna. Egli verrà di persona a prendervi, e vi renderà perfetti, stabili e più forti che mai.11 A lui sia la potenza su tutte le cose per sempre. Amen.12 Vi ho scritto queste poche righe con l’aiuto di Silvano, nostro fratello fedele. Con questa lettera spero d’avervi incoraggiato, perché in ciò che vi ho detto c’è la vera grazia di Dio. Rimanete ben saldi in essa!13 La comunità cristiana che sta in questa Babilonia, e che è vostra sorella nel Signore, vi manda i suoi saluti. Saluti anche da Marco, il mio figliolo.14 Salutatevi a vicenda con un bacio fraterno. Pace a voi tutti che appartenete a Cristo.

1 The elders among you I exhort, who am a fellow-elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, who am also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:2 Tend the flock of God which is among you, exercising the oversight, not of constraint, but willingly, according to the will of God; nor yet for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;3 neither as lording it over the charge allotted to you, but making yourselves ensamples to the flock.4 And when the chief Shepherd shall be manifested, ye shall receive the crown of glory that fadeth not away.5 Likewise, ye younger, be subject unto the elder. Yea, all of you gird yourselves with humility, to serve one another: for God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble.6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time;7 casting all your anxiety upon him, because he careth for you.8 Be sober, be watchful: your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour,9 whom withstand stedfast in your faith, knowing that the same sufferings are accomplished in your brethren who are in the world.10 And the God of all grace, who called you unto his eternal glory in Christ, after that ye have suffered a little while, shall himself perfect, establish, strengthen you.11 To him be the dominion for ever and ever. Amen.12 By Silvanus, our faithful brother, as I account him, I have written unto you briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Stand ye fast therein.13 She that is in Babylon, elect together with you, saluteth you; and so doth Mark my son.14 Salute one another with a kiss of love. Peace be unto you all that are in Christ.
